1 x broken wrist - walking friends' dog when two unrestrained dogs lept out of the back of a ute and attacked her. In the melee I fell over, landing on my wrist. 1 x broken ankle - knocked over by friend's dog who took my knees clean out from under me. ( FHRP) From my own dogs? Got smacked in the head by the Whippet before I learned to avoid it. Nothing really from the others.

I'd call it a "breed in development". They have their own breed registry but no ANKC recognition. Quite a few issues in this type. I'd be treading carefully

I"ll say that's a big brag!! Congratulations!!

I think I manage the way most dog owners do. I use training and routine. My dogs are fed in the same order every meal. Howard to his crate first then the poodles in order of age. They know their spots. If they're having RMBs outside, I sit with them and supervise to ensure Howard doesn't get harassed by the poodles. Not only does he get more than twice what they get to eat, he takes twice as long as they do to eat it. Walking on lead - all four dogs at once. All walk on loose leads. All know their spots and apart from the occasional bit of lead macrame this works fine. Sleeping arrangements - Howard sleeps in his basket by the bed the poodles have their spots on it. Howard joins us in the morning. I think I prefer three dogs to four for ease of management but we get there. Costs? I try not to think about it. As the dogs are both my passion and my hobby, I don't worry too much. I tell myself at least its cheaper than keeping two horses.

I've used Metacam in the past but you have to get it from your vet.

I have talked to them about grooming and clipping and am about to take a maltese over and show them the grooming. Trouble is I am getting puppy clucky! Avoid going to see litters then. I went to see one with a friend and took a pup from it.

Nice one from the weekend: Arrive late, so simply park your car in the main access to the grounds, leaving bugger all space for trolleys etc and blocking off the ambulance entrance. Ignore repeated requests on the PA system to move your car. Pity they couldn't have towed it.

Groomers EPO on the poodles and the Whippet's body Chris Christensen White on White for the Whippet's legs and first wash on the Toy Poodle.

I think most of us with a multiple dog household has seen their share of aggression incidents between dogs. Those of us who've escaped an incident like this should count our blessings. The danger is always when dogs are very mismatched in terms of size and temperament. Hope it all works out siks3. Very traumatic stuff for all involved. Personally, if separation doesn't work out, I'd look at giving the old foxy his wings. Watch the stress levels on both your dogs carefully. I'd certainly not be adding another small dog to this mix for any reason other than the fact YOU would really like one. You may simply be providing another sparring partner or a target for bullying from the old boy - if he's not dog friendly he's probably better off on his own.

How Well Do You Take Feedback?
poodlefan replied to SkySoaringMagpie's topic in General Dog Discussion
I appreciate the feedback if it comes from someone whose opinion I value. The rest I ignore. -
Is this family aware that "fluffy" equals "needs lots of brushing and combing and possibly professional grooming"? Will the dog be inside with the family? If they're up for the grooming and allowing a dog inside then I'd point them hard in the direction of a Toy or Miniature Poodle - great kids dogs

I am sorry, but this is not quite correct. Sun light is essential for Vitamin D production in the body, and Vitamin D is essential for bone growth, calcium absorption and some other things. If there is not enough exposure to sun light, you would have to give the dog Vitamin D supplement. BTW, this also applies to humans as well. I find this very hard to believe. There are countries where it's cloudy and rains for weeks at a time, yet breeders still successfully raise puppies without giving them supplements, and wolves also manage to breed in these countries. Plus, the only parts on a dog exposed to the sun are the nose and the top of the bottom eye lids, and possibly the inside of the ears if the dog has upright ears, so even if you do take them out every day they get very little exposure to sunlight. Also, in many parts of the world it's too hot to take a dog out in the sun, and yet there are healthy dogs all over the world. My 4 month old puppy doesn't get regular walks, and he's an indoor dog and we only go out for toilet breaks during the day, because it's too hot to be in the sun, and he seems to be growing just fine and is perfectly healthy, and I don't give him supplements. Lets see how his teething goes. Ever heard of rickets? That's Vitamin D deficiency in action. Used to be pretty common in pups once upon a time. The fact that you don't give your puppy supplements doesn't mean he's not getting in in his food - its a common additive to processed foods. Or do you feed an all raw diet? Sunshine, dairy products and Cod liver oil are sources of Vitamin D. Cod liver oil has been given to dogs and kids for decades. You don't need actually bright sunshine to get Vitamin D - you do need to be outside or receive it via supplementation or diet.

Ah, like a moth to a flame... How do you feel about sow stalls Moselle? I don't for a moment condone animal cruelty but I also don't kid myself that this country has anything to feel superior about. -
Funnily enough I noticed an exhibitor who is very vocal about the evils of bum running run up someone else's bum recently. Must only be a dirty trick when someone else does it. But the person whose bum they ran up had already done a very naughty crowd in the challenge line up with their bum basically hanging over the dog in front so I didn't feel sorry for them either. The games people play. You gotta or you'd ~~mental image~~ Dog or handler? ROLMAO! Please please someone do this to Howie.. they'd get a nice goosing for their trouble.

3 x 3m. If they made a 2.4 x 2.4 that folded smaller than 1.5m, I'd have one like a shot.

Ah yes, nothing quite like watching a whole bunch of gazebos do the dance of the demented tarantula in high wind. A whole bunch got consigned to the scrapheap at Bairnsdale this year. What's your budget? Under or over $1000? I have two gazebos: A 3 x 3m Quikshade Pro (aka the pink and purple palace) - big, heavy (28kg of aviation grade aluminium), cumbersome (1.5m long) to transport and expensive but bloody strong. I've had it set up in weather that sees other people rapidly disassemble theirs and its never batted an eyelid. These are the gazebos used by rally teams etc. I secure it with pegs in all 4 feet and double guys (two per corner) via the patented Poodlefan guyrope securing system* and the only thing that's ever budged on it was the tent pegs ( so I got longer ones). For multiple day shows, for really hot days or for gusty weather, this is my pick. An Oztrail compact. Nowhere near as strong or as cool when its really hot but with pegs in the feet, the canopy guy ropes used AND 4 additional guy ropes tied direct to the frame, its pretty strong. I'd not leave it set up at full height overnight though.. EVER. Way easier to transport though if size is an issue. Always cross your guy ropes diagonally along the sides of the gazebo rather than stretch them out from corners - you get far more stability this way. You'll void the warranty on a Quikshade unless you use guy ropes and frankly a lot of gazebos I see collapsed have been pegged by the feet only. * PFGS2 As used and recommended by BittyMoPeep on the Red Pagoda also.

Warmists Hate Not Only Humans, But The Dogs That Love Them

I haven't had kids I catch public transport to work I reckon my environmental footprint can handle a few little carnivores. -
He's 13 weeks old. He's unlikely to much of an idea as to what dominance is. The jumping and biting is normal play behaviour, especially if he's not inside with you - he's going to be so excited every time he sees you. You've got yourself a highly intelligent breed, developed to work with and for us all day every day. The more time he spends in the company of the family (not outside) the better. I strongly recommend: * you buy a good crate, train him to use it and allow him inside, even if only in the crate. He won't learn to calm down around you unless you give him lots of time to be with you and teach him what's appropriate. * you ask here for a recommendation for a good professional trainer to come out to your house and set you up to raise this pup. Mouthing issues aren't unusual but one on one advice sure beats the internet. * you join either a breed specific or a general obedience training club and train this dog for the longer term.

I had a competitor run their dog up Howie's arse for the first time last month. I was flattered.. those of the dirty tricks persuasion don't bother with dogs they don't think are any good.

good point aidan Dog is going to his potential new home this weekend. In a few days it may be all over .. for now. i forgot about this PF. this does make it a more immediate situation OP hasn't returned to the Forum since she accused us of fanaticism. I doubt anything said from here on will make one iota of difference. -
