  1. I have fed Hills I/D cans to Darcy when he was recovering from gastro. It certainly is a less offensive than other canned food I've seen (and smelt).
  2. The World Show moves around a bit (has definitely been held in South America) but is in Paris next year and Salzburg the year after. I think a win at the World Show definitely allows you to use that title.
  3. I meant "trial" in the testing sense. Presumably rehabilitation sessions would involve the handler doing something with their dog. Each time they do something where the dog is expected to respond, that's what I meant by trial. I think that's a safe bet.
  4. It's not great for your stomach if you have to pick up after your dogs either.
  5. Spotted this under Sturt Highway road diversions: .That suggests that (at least for the meantime) you can get from Wagga to Grongy. I hope that stays the case. You can get to Grongy via Harden and Ardlethan from Canberra it seems. ETA: After a morning email war, it appears the C&RSM (Canberra and Region Sighthound Mafia*) are still keen to go and may even convoy down. Here's hoping Grongy is on! *And one Toy Poodle.
  6. Lets not forget that agility training is done OFF LEAD. No dog is onlead for any part of training at my club. AD said the dog dragged its owner 3 metres to get to the other dog. So either the owner was holding on to the collar at the time of the attack or it was onlead. Either way the dog could drag the owner. That is dangerous. It might have been onlead between exercises (which we insist on at my club). The idea of this dog being offlead doesn't thrill me at all. Megan: How do you train a dog to jump on lead? You certainly wouldn't be able to send it ahead or get any lateral distance on one.

  8. Thanks. So they are saying there won't be a route between Wagga and Grongy - that's us knocked out then. I hope they can find a safe way to get the VIC judges there.
  9. Just wanted to add: Incidents like this are the reason that my club introduced a "control test" to evaluate dogs' on and offlead focus and control before allowing them to train in agility. It significantly reduced the number of incidents we were getting in classes. Perhaps an objective test she must pass before coming back to training might help focus her on improving her dog's behaviour (if possible)
  10. These are classes Corvus, not trials. An instructor has enough to do training all other class members on equipment and handling. Dealing with significant behavioural issues is outside their area of responsiblity IMO. While the dog presents a danger to other dogs in classes, it simply cannot be allowed to train IMO.
  11. Thought I might actually have a weekend off if Grongy ain't on.
  12. x 2 Personally I think allowing non-breeder judges would be a good thing.
  13. Hopefully there will be an announcement. Getting from Wagga to Grongy may prove challenging, that's for sure.
  14. Goals are one thing - reality is another. My personal theory is that you don't rehabilitate or "cure" aggressive dogs – what you do is raise the trigger point at which they aggress. That can require many different things and many different timeframes depending on the dog and the handler. Some dogs never make it back to class. I've seen my share of aggression incidents in agility and in every one of them I'd say the handler's failure to notice and control their dog's escalating reactivity was a significant factor. They simply miss the signs and they don't react fast enough when their dog focuses on another. The time to call your dog is when its by your side and turning towards the other dog - NOT when its 2 metres away and fully engaged in an attack. So for this dog/handler team the first step for me is NO AGILITY TRAINING UNTIL THE DOG'S REACTION CAN BE CONTROLLED AWAY FROM EQUIPMENT That's goal one. No equipment and no training until the behaviourist says its OK. My guess is that won't be immediate. This dog clearly means business and until such time as the handler can demonstrate effective control, she shouldn’t have it near other dogs unless it is muzzled and on lead. From a liability perspective you have a dog with a history of aggression. If you allow it to continue training and it nails another dog, the club or trainer running the classes will be up for all costs. From the point of view of other class members, they aren't guinea pigs or training aids for this dog and handler. It's hard enough training your own dog without having to keep an eye on someone else's. An aggressive incident towards some dogs will set them back months. Play it safe. I'd suspend the dog from all agility training until it can pass a temperament and control test set by you.
  15. from that i'd say the whitener would be fine since it is not a dye or bleach and does not remain on the dog. Really it just makes the hair very clean and bright. not permanently altering the coat. White enhancing shampoos do not "dye, colour, lighten or darken" coat. The purple masks any yellowing but it is hardly colour enhancement. Nor does it disguise or change coat colour. You are in effect only cleaning what is already white. I like the Chris Christensen White on White for enhancing white. PM Diva and Aloysha and see what they use - best products can be quite breed specific. For removing dirt from white feet and legs, I use soap first (Sunlight) and follow with shampoo. Massage the soap in well (till its very foamy) rinse and shampoo. Works a treat.
  16. Good to hear from people. Anyone heard from Steve? I see that Wagga is expected to be isolated by flooding sometime today and that hundreds of folk are evacuating the lower areas. Mercedes, with the Murrumbidgee not expected to peak at Narranderra until late next week, Grongy is looking dicey. Wait and see I suppose. It would be a pity for the town if it doesn't go ahead. Hope you are OK Enigma - that was quite a fall.
  17. You don't know the sire of the pups. Having the litter could kill her. Abort and spey.
  18. Any Y front harness would be OK. Avoid anything that crosses the shoulders.
  19. Starting this here, because I can't post in OT. I know we've got quite a few DOLers in the flooded areas? Is everyone OK? Steve, Mandalay, Mercedes, Esky and other south western NSW folk are you above water?
  20. We have a volunteer for card writing SSM. Clearly you don't muck around ;) Looks like it's all under control Check your emails.
  21. We have a volunteer for card writing SSM. Weather has improved today Irish Lassy - rain has eased. Not sure if that will continue though. Looks like the sky is darkening again.
  22. Given that the Murrumbidgee is not due to peak at Narranderra untill Thursday, I hope Grongy will be dry enough for the shows.
  23. Are your friend's fingers broken? If not, tell them to pick up the phone, call the local vet and ask them. We don't know for sure what their local vet will charge, or what's wrong with the dog. A dog that's screaming needs a vet NOW.
  24. How old is Banjo? Is it possible he's got some residual pain?
  25. ALL breeds are dogs first. He is behaving like a DOG. Get it out of your head that because he is a certain breed he isn't a dog first and foremost. yes i know he is a dog he is not my first dog and this is really his only issue but this breed is supose to be kiddy lovers. so that is why my comment is said. its hard i dont expect a purfect dog. thanks i will try with not letting the kids leave food (very hard Lol) but how to do i get him to repect them? if i say leave it and i did test it by leaveing food he just left it. but if the kids leave it he just takes it. ahh dogs and kids who would have them You won't. They aren't big enough or old enough to rate above him in his eyes. You can only supervise and manage them to prevent conflict over food. Loving your kids and being willing to take issue with them for a valued resource aren't mutually exclusive. Family dogs are made, not born. No breed is bombproof with kids I'm afraid despite what some people might try to have you believe.
