Getting Puppy To Sleep Not On The Bed Help Please :)
poodlefan replied to kitkatswing's topic in Puppy Chat
Dogs are social animals first and foremost. They prefer to sleep with their pack. That's you. But its your choice. I'd anticipate some noise issues at night though if he's outside. He's going to need a very well insulated kennel and if that's where you plan to sleep him, he should be in it ASAP. -
She's got the fact to appeal to a sighthound person hasn't she.. and such soft eyes!

Getting Puppy To Sleep Not On The Bed Help Please :)

If you used a crate and trained him to sleep in it he could be inside where its out of the elements and he's likely to be quieter at night. ;) -
Getting Puppy To Sleep Not On The Bed Help Please :)

Thats what I thought, we should just let him whine? Its horible but I am feling like thats what we have to do.... Provided he's comfortable and doesn't need to go to the toilet, ignore it. You'll probably have to get up at least once during the night for a while to toilet him though. Baby puppies have tiny bladders. -
Linky to news article dog in Germany has given birth to 17 puppies, leaving their owner thrilled but fatigued after having to feed them with a bottle for several weeks because their mother couldn't cope with the demand. Owner Ramona Wegemann said she barely slept for more than a couple of minutes without interruption during about four weeks in an "exhausting" struggle to make sure all of the purebred Rhodesian Ridgeback puppies would survive. She said when she was "finished feeding the last puppy, the first was hungry again". Advertisement: Story continues below Wegemann's dog Etana gave birth to eight female and nine male puppies on September 28 in Ebereschenhof, which is near Berlin. At least five times a day, Wegemann gave the dogs a bottle with special milk because their mother's nipples could never have coped with the demand, and when the puppies were not hungry, they wanted to be entertained, she said. Wegemann said when dogs give birth to so many puppies several of them die within the first week. "But all of our puppies survived. This is incredible and wonderful," the 32-year-old added. It was the second time that Etana gave birth. She gave birth to eight puppies in her first pregnancy, not uncommon for the dog's breed, Wegemann said. "The birth of the puppies was very special. All puppies were born naturally, no caesarean was necessary," she added. It took Etana a full 26 hours to give birth to all of the puppies - and Wegemann was as baffled as amazed. But caring for 17 puppies turned out to be a full-time job: Wegemann put her work as an independent animal psychiatrist on hold and her husband took as much holiday as he could. Their lives have been turned upside down by the puppies, and their living room is now occupied by a giant box that houses the puppies. But even Wegemann still struggles to recognize them: The females puppies are called Bahati, Binta, Bahya, Bashima, Batouuli, Binki, Bora, Bisa and the male ones are Baakir, Banjoku, Belay, Bruk, Bundu, Bayo, Bukekayo, Biton and Bulus. Wegemann gave them all African names because the Rhodesian Ridgeback is an African hunting dog

Swap the pen for a decent quality crate and weather the whining. Every time you allow him to sleep with you, you're reinforcing that whining. -
My Dog Is Not Agressive Some Advice Please

Mason2009 Despite the reactions of some Lab owners here, I don't think anyone suggested they were. Retaliatory generalisations about small dogs or folk who don't appreciate Labs really isn't helping (not that you did that Mason). As I said originally, a Lab under effective control is fine. Some of the others ;) -
That's my guess. Are you in a rural area Kels84? W

Strewth.. there's a few breeds in there I think but I'm hard pressed to see any SBT. Have you got a shot of her standing? She looks to have some Whippet or another sighthound IMO.

It's a time for empathy, not coping advice too. We all cope differently.

Sorry, but I'll save my sympathy for the cats. My guess is most of them won't see Christmas. Me too, but people like this hoarder have some sort of a mental illness and need help as much as the poor unfortunate animals they are trying to 'save'. If they don't get this help, they'll just keep on doing it all over again. Mental illness may explain the behaviour but it doesn't excuse it. She knew the conditions those cats were in. Mental illness isn't a "get out of jail free" card as far as I'm concerned. She's not insane. She failed to provide decent living conditions for the cats in her care. If she'd thought all was fine and dandy, she'd not be sneaking around in the middle of the night or keeping them in a storage unit. : It's damn difficult to hoard cats again if you're in prison or a secure mental facility.

Is he crate trained now? Is he used to being crated in a room away from you? If not, then I doubt either of you will enjoy it. The way to set him up for success is to make sure he's used to how you're going to contain him. If you're going to fundamentally change how he lives AND isolate him, I'd put him in kennels. I don't book holiday homes where dogs aren't allowed inside because that's not how my dogs live.

How Do You Choose A Trainer Or Behaviourist
poodlefan replied to corvus's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I'm not doubting your recommendation, but I'm just wondering why you would make this distinction? (I have some ideas, but I'm interested in your answer). I don't think the AB could deal effectively with a bitey GSD and K9pro would probably rather not deal with Snookums K9Pro deals very effectively with Snookums.. I've seen him do great work with a timid poodle. -

Gold - check Smaller than "English" cocker - check -
Pay him off. Chances are he's using this situation to hurt you. I'd be wanting them out of his hands ASAP.

I just say that I'm thinking of them at such a difficult time and how sorry I am for their loss. A show acquaintance of mine recently lost a treasured RR to bloat. I just hugged her and we both burst into tears.. Some fall much lower than others before they recover. But we all know that dogs live far shorter lives then we do unfortunately - you have to know its going to happen.

Sorry poodlefan didn't mean to make anyone sad Thought we had every other dodgy out there had to add the idiots that buy these dogs for the wrong reason in. Will edit my last post No need to edit - lets just not push on with that theme. (which is probably a bit rich in a thread started by a "puppy farmer" ;) ) -
My dogs are trained to recall to a sports whistle.

My Dog Is Not Agressive Some Advice Please
poodlefan replied to A and G's topic in General Dog Discussion
They barrel up and get right in other dog's faces.. not good dog ettiquette for meeting strangers. They also tend to be fairly physical with other dogs - a Lab putting the shoulder into or a foot on a smaller dog can do a fair bit of damage with not one ounce of aggression intended. And their owners often seem to think that their dogs' "friendliness" to other dogs should be appreciated by everyone. Ah, nope. Not any more than I appreciated being jumped on by a friendly Lab that "just wants to say hi". I have to take issue with this - THEY implies all Labs and that is NOT the case. It shits me that people make comments that imply all Labs are "in your face rude dogs and/or rough" with small dogs or other dogs. :D This is simply NOT the case and it infuriates me that ALL Labs youngsters particularly, are made out to be out of control, in your face, rude dogs. :D BULLSH*T is what I say "They" means "all"? That's your opinion. I was taking about inappropriate behaviour I see in Labs. Not every one I know but more than a few. The only Labs I know that don't do this are under the effective control of their owners. Perhaps that's why our experiences differ. Had one run the half the length of a playing field to "greet" my dogs last month. Patently obvious she meant no harm but that's little consolation when you've got a Lab bouncing through 4 onlead dogs. Whatever. But in case anyone's wondering: NO, I didn't kick the dog. NO, I didn't yell at the owner YES, I did say "happens to us all at some stage" when he apologised and collected her. -

My Dog Is Not Agressive Some Advice Please
poodlefan replied to A and G's topic in General Dog Discussion
I often picture those who accuse small dog owners of "over reacting" experiencing a dog the size of a horse "just saying hi" to their dog. My guess is their tune would change pretty quickly if their dog was at any physical risk from the encounter. -
