Sorry, distracted by the search for a caffinated beverage in this area two days from Christmas. Thank You National Gallery of Australia Poodlefan is not all knowing Born plated - all I can think of is this: But I see we have moved on.
-
Ask questions folks - we don't need to be organised or anything. Its Christmas!!

I think there's another that silvers out - maybe Schnauzers?? Silver poodles are born black. Someone told me ACDs are born white but I've never seen ACD baby puppies so I don't know

I think its his owner's presidency people are trying to forget.

Someone needs to ask a question.. anyone? Here's one (and I don't know the answer). Name two breeds that are born solid white and two breeds that are born solid black!! Bonus points if they change colour afterwards by the way

Well I'm guessing a poodle, maybe a toy. But only becuase it's you that asked pf. Brown Miniature Poodle. Two of them named Rufus I and Rufus II. He used to write letters from the poodles to his wife. These pics make me smile - espcially No. 2 Another little story:

What Do You Think Of This Logic?
poodlefan replied to pixie_meg's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
This is what I use on Howie. Just brain storming here but I wonder if some of those other products get a reaction due to Oberon's low body fat ratio. Might explain the lesions. Is Ivermectin stored in body fat???? something worth considering i guess. he is quite low on fat. All sighthounds are. Bears to pay that in mend when using medications stored in the body fat. Tick treatments can be one. -
But what breed of dog did Winston Churchill own? (Bonus points for name and colour)

As they are fitted across the dog's chests, this is not one I'd recommend for walking. It restricts shoulder movement. A Y design harness would be my recommendation. ETA: This is a Y design. See how it doesnt cross the dog's shoulder:
-
Chran: But unfortunately it leaves you with no control over his head. You cannot turn the dog's head towards you or away from another dog using a harness. That leaves the dog free to engage in challenging staring and the bitey end of the dog free to do as it pleases.

If the breeder has had the pup in the car and its not carsick, I'd probably opt for the drive. 8 hours with a carsick pup, having to toilet it at public stops used by dogs of unknown vaccination status (it won't be fully immunised) and managing the risk of it getting offlead in a strange place are also things to consider. An early morning flight (first thing to avoid the heat) would be fine. My Whippet pup flew from Melbourne to Canberra without incident. Most of the baggage handlers I've seen are careful with live cargo. If you go the flight option, use a pet transport company for peace of mind. I used Dogtainers.

Waiting lists are LONG. Paula here has been on one for years. Do your homework carefully as there are health issues in some lines. You might want to PM FHRP about Spins and retrieving Rubystar. She had a lovely Spinone some years back. I gather one issue is that the standard Spinone working gait is a trot and this means they lack some of the dash that the faster working Labs and others tend to display in trials. This has the potential to see them scored lower I think. Just love Spinone.. fabulous dogs. I wish someone here would get a Bracco.

All these gadgets have their uses but it does worry me to see haltis and harnesses used as the 'default' position for training when there are no issues. Haltis on tiny dogs and pups make me shudder. Haltis used with flexi leads or to tie a dog up are even worse. I think people have this idea that the halti is a benign and "kinder" method of restraint than a collar. Sadly, not so. There is a couple that walk their dog on a restrictive flyball harness in my suburb. I bite my tongue every time I see it.

Channeling Prey Drive Into Toys
poodlefan replied to Koemi's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Try "lifelike" toys with fur and squeakers. Shaking. dragging them and tossing them can sometimes spark the drive. Furry rats seem to be a big hit with prey driven dogs - sadly they don't tend to last long but may get you started. -
He also fosters kittens at home. I've given my share of raspberries to some RSPCA policies and practices but the local organisation has my support. I'm not entirely comfortable with some of their ideas being captured in the proposed legislation changes but am confident that with this RSPCA, dialogue is encouraged.

Looks like he's rubbed it raw on a wire run or fence. He could have a yeast infection in his pads - soaking them in a Malaseb solution won't hurt and might help.

Where are we at with questions?? Is there a current one?
-
Not sure - I have suggessted a behoviourist. Our girl beardie can jump very well too, and no doubt can clear our 1.5m fences if she chose to - the neighbours see her full body regularly above the fence line, but I've never seen anything like this one. He's coming here for a day next week so I can have a look at him. At a rough guess I'd say 'because he can". When he first arrived he "broke into" the house! He took off (without damaging) the fly screen on a window and opened the window to get in (didn't damage anything - just went to bed - on the bed) - the window was only open about an inch. You can literally see the "wheel turning" in this boys head when he wants to do something. He's a lovely boy and a very quick learner, Cully is loathed to re-home him (not that I think he can be re-homed - he'd do the same thing to any normal pet home) I'm wondering if this boy would be better suited to a working farm life. Is the dog allowed inside? Have they considered putting in a dog door and giving him limited access inside? A behaviourist would be a better investment than electric fencing for this boy but have they considered he's escaping for company? Where does he go when he gets out?

that you didn't mention Tenties, but over to you! Don't forget these little guys.

1.Labrador 2.Basenji 3. No idea 3 I do know from putting together quizes for the hound club - Foxhound. I was going to say American Foxhound??? Washington was a keen dog breeder and wanted to develop a faster hound than the English dogs for American conditions. He crossed his "Virginia Hounds' with French stag hounds but no idea if he went on with it. How's this for a nice story about how keen a dog person he was.

There's more than I thought!! SSM got there first Shells but hey, ask a question!! We can have more than one going at a time.

-
