Yep I used ivermectin on a foster that had it. The vet started her on a low dose and it didn't seem to be working, so they more than doubled the dose and that is when we started to really see a difference. Good food - mine are mostly fed raw meat (VAN at the moment but I think they were on BARF back then). I also gave her eggs and sardines in oil every few days. The vet suggested the Malaseb but I watered it down heaps - like 5mls shampoo to a bucket of water and then washed her with the water in the bucket before rinsing her off and only a few times over the few months that she had it.. Then again Zippy never seemed itchy, so I didn't see the need for the Malaseb.

Honestly I think it depends on the person/family that the pup/dog will be going to and their lifestyle. No point suggesting an active dog if they will never take it out of the yard or a dog that needs regular grooming, if they have no idea how to do it and they don't want to spend the money on it.

I think you can still contact them through here - I did :) Zig swims in his Ruthless leather collars almost every day. We have had them for about 2 years. They cope remarkably well with being in water. They are both still in awesome condition. I do condition them once a month or so..

K9 Pro have great long lines - I have one of theirs and found it great, when I was using it.

I have two leather ones from Ruthless Leather - I will never buy another lead again, other than theirs. Awesome leads (and collars).. I give them and the leads a rub over with the leather conditioner and they still feel brand new.

That poor dog - I hope he makes a full recovery. I doubt very much that dog fighters would bring the dog back to the house they stole it from (unless they wanted to get caught). I also doubt they would fight the dog anywhere near its home or in close vicinity of tenanted homes - the noise would surely arouse suspicion?? We have had loads of people saying that their homes are marked with blue chalk - I pointed out that the local surveyors use blue chalk to make points. Then someone said about the white arrows painted - so I pointed out that council use those to show where water metres are. In this day and age of phones with cameras, why would anyone go to the trouble of painting or chalking the concrete in front of a house - seems bending down to do so, would get more attention than someone walking along the street with a phone in their hand.. Dog fighting is such a secret thing that I honestly can't see why they would steal pets, with the chance of getting caught and blowing their whole operation..

Bull breed - at least I will have someone to play with until I die of starvation.

I didn't realise you still had Hobbes Ricey - do you have any photo's of him now to share? Bless him 14 is a good age. My old SBT Ollie, passed away at 14.5 but he fought mast cell cancer for 6 of those years. He was mostly deaf (or very selectively, he could still hear a biscuit packet from 10 metres away) and couldn't see of a night. We put those plug in night lights in the power points, so he could get around of a night. I lost him back in October 2011 - still miss his face, every single day. I did find this blockhead to keep me company, about a week after losing Ollie. Meet Ziggy, generic brindle pound mutt/obedience superstar :) That is Zig at the back and his last foster sister Bella (she was a gem and if I wasn't in NSW, would have kept her in a heartbeat).. I agree Tassie - I think Ollie dog would too. Although, Ol would never have tolerated Zig's enthusiasm for life and his in your face, 'who wants me' attitude :laugh:

Total ignorance of any common sense. Why can't they see that just because one dog does something, doesn't mean another will do the same thing. As a dog lover (and particularly a bull breed lover and rescuer), it breaks my heart to see dogs in this position.. I don't know how anyone can meet one and not fall in love with them but that's just me. I wonder at the chance of ever having this legislation revoked? Or my biggest fear, it spreading to every part of the country.

I love that picture Mel.. i also loved the photo shoot his owners did with him a week or so before he was given his wings (when they thought they were going to lose him that day).

Thanks so much all. We had a lovely comment today at obedience training by a new person in our class. Zig has been working off lead and she commented on how lovely it was to meet such a nice friendly dog, who was so well behaved (even off lead). Then another person said that he was a bit of a class star :) It is so nice to hear that others think he is such a lovely lad and shows all the hard work with his training is noticed by others.

I wish more people knew how 'useless' these things were. I have a friend who bought them, after the first time her dog was bitten (he was bitten on 3 separate occasions in 2 summers (near Canberra)). Twice after the repellers were installed. She now has guinea fowl and doesn't have snakes in the yard where the dogs are but they still come to the front yard (where the guineas don't go). We have 3 pet snakes here at home and the our pooch has been taught to leave them. Hopefully that will work if he ever finds one out and about.

Thanks guys, he has had a pretty good day: Starting with about an hour at the leash free park with a heap of furry buddies, lots of ball chasing and dunk or two in the water trough. Followed by breakfast of a chicken wing and a big surprise (quarter of a marrow bone).. He doesn't get them very often but he really loves them when he does. To finish off, he raided the chicken coop run and scored a nice fresh egg! Happy days!

That is just heartbreaking - all over what he looks like (nothing to do with his temperament at all).. Would they let him leave the state - that seems to be a popular option these days.

Three years ago today, this lad arrived into my life and heart - he put a smile on my face at a time when I didn't think I would ever smile again. (For those that don't know: I lost my husband on the 2/10/2011 and my 14 year old SBT on 25/10/2011. The house was so quiet, I went to the pound and Zig was waiting for me).. When will they realise that these dogs are no danger to the community and should be returned to their owners. Or in the worst case, rehomed to a state that has none of this rubbish legislation or will accept the reports that he is not a PB. A dog that has been locked up for 30+ months and he is still stable and docile, according to the assessments. Mylo's story is so sad and unfair. Kerser's story is pretty similar and I think his case is back before VCAT soon as well. Just heartbreaking.

Zig has started shaking when he goes to our vet - no idea why.. It has happened the last two times, when I take him out of the car at the vets, he shakes. Not like when they shake water off, actually shaking like nervous type shaking. He doesn't seemed scared once he is in there but walking to the door, shaking the whole way.

I used carafate for a long time with Ollie - he had MCTs and used to throw up a lot (we didn't test but assumed the MCT had made it way to his stomach but as he still wanted to eat, most of the time, and was happy we just kept plodding along). I found the carafate very helpful for him. Edited to add - if you choose to go with it, ask the vet for a prescription to get it from your local chemist. It is much cheaper this way than if the vet supplies it.

Eggs.. Zig has discovered that one of my lovely chickens lays her eggs in the garden or the run of the coop - he goes in every single day to see if there is one there for him. He has never really been very food motivated but he will happily sit and wait while an egg is laid for him :) Luckily the other three are laying in the nesting boxes, so he can't get in there to get those ones..

That is so true Helen. Ollie was given his wings just a few weeks after we lost my husband - sometimes I think about it and it feels like it happened yesterday and other times, it honestly feels like a lifetime since I have seen them both. I have Zig now and he really does fill my life with so much joy - I feel very blessed to have the opportunity to have another wonderful dog to love.

I think I like most breeds. I didn't think I liked GSPs (only because of the two that live next door - not very nice dogs) but I have since met a couple of nice ones and they have bought me around. I am a boofhead devotee through and through. SBTs, ASTs, PBs and Frenchies (I am sure there are many more boofheads but these are my main faves) - I love them all. They don't even have to be purebreeds :) I honestly don't think I would ever own anything but a boofhead - they are just so awesome!
