Yes, I did. Are there othere videos? I saw a blob running towards a white/black blob and lots of wiggling/struggling. Quite frankly they may have been fending off a rabid wombat for al I saw...? How can you pick breed let alone species? Not sure why you quoted me but I will respond to your questions.. The news report that relates to the attack and is reported after the attack part of the story, states that all three were attacked.. I agree, you can't pick breed but again, the news report said the police contained the dog at the scene and witnesses helped the woman and her two little dogs.. I watched the whole thing, not just the bit where the blob runs across the screen and the whole report explains pretty clearly what happened.. I can't pick a breed in that video, but I am inclined to believe the police, the witnesses and the woman until further information comes to light... Including the fact that her 14 year old dog later died from his injuries by the attacking dog. I really don't see what breed has to do with it??? It was a big dog at large. The woman and her little dogs were attacked by a bigger dog, just because they have named a breed is irrelevant. The incident happened.. I would think they know the difference between a wombat and a dog.

It's probably my fave portrait lens.

Thanks all.. Link to canon workshops The workshops look really interesting and it was also an opportunity for me to get out and meet more people.. Most of the people I know are all joint (married) friends of mine and Dans, so I sort of feel a bit like a fifth wheel, whenever we all get together.. None of them are really into dogs or photography (2 of my passions)... So I sort of want to expand the friend base and meet more people... I think the workshops are a good way to do this and learn a lot more about this wonderful new camera.. The workshops can be broken down I to 4 different ones, the last one being more photoshop, which I thought was good... I am really leaning towards doing it and the next one starts soon.. Thanks for the link to POTN, I will have a good look through it..

Great shots.. Love the pug bums... I have been trying to get a Santa hat on Ziggy for a couple of days.. Not going so well, so may have to settle for a heap of tinsel for him to play in...

I had the 400d for ages and loved it.. But played with and fell in love with the 7D, so bought it.. I am so under using it.. It can/ could do so much more than I am capable of.. So I was thinking of doing the packaged course that canon offer. It's not cheap, so I was wondering if anyone else had done it and if they thought it was worth it... It runs for 3 hours, one night a week for 17 weeks.. It would also be a nice distraction (if its worth it) for me, as I am still so down a lot about losing Dan and then Ollie dog (a year ago).. I think it would be good for me to meet new people and do something else, other than work... Thanks in advance :)

How horrible.. It's one thing to complain about the dogs barking but to try and injure or kill them is beyond words.. The two next door to us have been barking forever.. It is very annoying but council won't do anything because he knows them all.. I hate the way they charge the fence when anyone walks past but I also realise they are dogs and only doing what a lot of dogs do.. They are the product of their environment.. I can have my lad in the front yard and he gets excited when someone comes past but he doesn't bark and carry on or lunge at the people or other dogs... The only time he barks at the front door if someone comes is when we don't hear it and he is waiting at the door on his own. He will also bark when it gets dark if someone comes to the door.. Why is that some dogs do the lunging and barking, when others are jut happy to go up to the fence and say hi?

Zig always looks deadly serious.. There are very few pics of him smiling... I had someone the other day tell me that he looks 'dangerous'... Ollie was only about 5 weeks old when we bought him home.. Very sick, full of worms etc.. His mother had decided a week earlier that she didn't want anything to do with the pups anymore.. So they hand fed them for a week and then we heard about it and said we would take one... We met the mother, father and they also had the mothers father dog dog.. Gorgeous dogs but really crappy set up..

Now we have Ziggy - pound mutt.. This was the day we bought him home (1/11/2011) - about 6 months old Little Ziggy by Jodie Moore Photos, on Flickr Growing up - taken a few months ago IMG_0408 by Jodie Moore Photos, on Flickr

But it is lovely to see how they grow...

Thanks.. I like the idea of one at Russell (close to us in Queanbeyan than the other two sites)... I wish Queanbeyan would look at more suitable parks or at least fix the new one... There is hardly any grass, its all rock and rubble underfoot and it was built in an area with no mature trees (so they had to plant a heap) - no shade.. Don't get me wrong, I am thankful we have it - I just wish it was a bit better than it is.

Our next door neighbour has 2 GSPs that spend heaps of time in their front yard... If you walk past with your dog, they lunge at you..They are not contained, the gate is open and the front fence wouldn't hold them if they really wanted to have a go... I don't think they do but it is still scary for others walking past not expecting these two big dogs to run at the fence and lunge at your dog through it... He has been reported a loads of times but all council do is have a chat to him.. He culls kangaroos for the council, so knows them all.. Theses are the same dogs that have barked everyday for the last 8 years or so.. He is such a joyous person to live next door to.

How dreadful, but I don't see what BSL has to do with this? Poor lady, and RIP little doggy It has everything to do with it. BSL is supposed to protect the community from dog attacks. Victoria has the strongest and most draconian BSL in the country, with hundreds of dogs being seized and killed because of their appearance within the state. Yet horrible, horrible attacks continue to occur. This is a perfect example of how BSL targets dogs that may never be an issue, and misses dogs that are. BSL is designed to eliminate fighting breeds that can potentially cause harm to people.........I don't think the GSD here bit any people here did he? Did you watch the video? They clearly say the dog was attacking all 3 of them.. That she was trying to fight off the dog...

Exercising Reactive Dogs Thread
Staffyluv replied to megan_'s topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I think a lot of stuff changed with me when I realised that Ziggy is reactive.. I just kept telling myself that he is just a super friendly guy who just wants to play.. But the truth is that a lot of dogs don't want to play with him and he has to learn that.. As much as I did. He can be very overbearing for some dogs and if I see it, I take him out of the mix. I used to think he needed to have free for all play time.. I no longer think that... Don't get me wrong, he still gets off leash time with his mates but he has a threshold that I have slowly learned needs to be kept in check. He just gets so excited that he loses focus. If this happens I have to chase him down to leash him. I can read him so much better now and I call him and leash him before he gets to this level.. We still have a lot of stuff to work on. My next big goal is to get him walking on a loose leash. He is still very much a puller... I just ordered him a sporn halter with a mesh chest section. I like it better than the lupi harness we have. While I was ordering that I noticed a bungee rope that ties to the deck with a ball on the end that he can play with... In saying that, I have found that keeping most of his toys up and playing with him, he seems to focus more on me for that play time... This was my goal earlier, to get him to focus on me more and it is working.. I supply the toys and the fun.. I make the game.. I have had a few occasions of late that when I have stopped playing, he stops playing and just watches me.. When I release him, he will go get a ball to bring it back and try to engage me again.. Once upon a time, he would have just gone off playing by himself.. This level of engagement has changed the dynamics in our relationship and we work so much better together now... -
High Potential Dogs In Low Potential Homes
Staffyluv replied to Lollipup's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Haha, same.. I have always thought that Ziggy would be awesome at flyball.. He is so ball focused and loves to run and jump stuff. We had an awesome kelpie cross, Gussy, here last year and he was so smart.. He picked up everything you taught him so quickly and he was fast... He went to a pet home where he goes fishing with the dad heaps.. He loves it.. He had so much potential but he leads a very happy life anyway.. -
I think you will find that the very first post raised the BSL issue (breed) and once again, this was an horrific attack by a larger breed dog on a small one, so it was quite literally big dogs Vs little dog, and once again, little dog lost. So the posts are hardly "off topic" are they? The original post was turned in to a party political broadcast, so what exactly were people expected to write????? My point was simply that every one of these threads turns into the same issues... If people want to start breed bashing (or dog size bashing) thread, by all means do so.. This isn't about that.. It is about a poor woman who has lost her dog under horrific circumstances... Just my opinion, but it would be nice to see, just once, a thread where people come and leave their condolences without turning it into a sledging match between breeds/sizes.. I don't disagree, but some people cannot miss an opportunity to push their personal agenda, maybe a good start would be if the thread had not been titled "Dog Attack Caught On Camera, How's that BSL working for you Victoria?" Doesn't look to me like the OP was aiming for a thread where people could leave their condolences. FFS, again I wasn't having a go... It is just my opinion... I never quoted anyone, to have a go.. I never mentioned the OP or BSL... All I was commenting on was now horrible the event was and how these threads always go the same way... It was just a personal observation that these threads always end up with the same crap in them.. I SUGGESTED it might be nice to see a thread about one of these disasters where people just leave their condolences without it turning I to a crap fight...

But what about if you aren't home? The buggers have free rein, to redecorate the tree. I suggest either blocking it off, or putting it out of reach as well. They never touched it when they were home alone.. I guess I am lucky, I taught the same thing to my old Stafford to. He never touched the Christmas tree either... I can get Ziggy to leave the Xmas tree but can't seem to stop him digging.. Go figure...
-
Teach the dog to 'leave it'... Zig was about the same age last Xmas and was most excited about the tree with all the balls on it.. It was a good opportunity to teach leave it..

How utterly devastating for the owners of the little mites... Have we not turned enough of these threads into a big dog vs little dog thread - why can't we just acknowledge that we all feel very sorry for the owner, the loss of the little mite and the other little one who is injured... This is a deed, not breed or type thread (but it will probably turn into one like all the others do)... RIP little one...

Okay, I Finally Snapped And Was Rude
Staffyluv replied to Loving my Oldies's topic in General Dog Discussion
I thought the same.. I get that all the time - if I had a dollar for every time someone said to me 'who is taking who for a walk' I would be rich.. But I it doesn't bother me.. They are just making conversation. -
Some people don't deserve kids and dogs (pets)... I am so glad to hear he has been found safe.

How heartbreaking.. How lucky she was that those 2 men came to help her also.. Rest in peace Lady - what a sad end to a little old lady.
