Dog Hair And Car Upholstery A Lifelong Partnership
Staffyluv replied to Kirislin's topic in General Dog Discussion
We use a back seat buddy to cover the whole back seat, up the back of the front seat - so the whole back seat area (including carpet) is protected. We still get a bit of hair but nothing like we used to - and we use a dyson as well. I think a chamois wiped over seats can help to lift dog hair as well.. Not sure how good it would be on the short staffy type hair but it works on the longer hair of BCs etc. -
doesn't matter where they come from or what their breeding is, we all like our dogs to look their best :D Yep that is why I asked :D We used to get loads of compliments about his coat. His brindle is really quite dark and his white patches were such a pretty contrast. But now they look dull and sort of creamy instead of white.. Hopefully one of the suggestions will work and his white will be all pretty again soon.

I never thought of that - I will take him out in the sunshine tomorrow and have a good look after I give him a wash with the aloveen and then the sunlight soap on the white bits.

So if their accounts were audited, it would show that funds raised for a particular dog went to that rescue? In short no. Or in this case no. All money can go into one account and is very difficult to audit. Director fees/board member regos etc (even if they are crap)can all also go into the same account. The funds are difficult to audit for that reason and she could string the OLGR along for years. What happens most often is that the OLGR or an independant chartered accountant will have to 'estimate' between donated funds and the rest. This does not give a good indication of funds donated. Not sure now as they are registered as a tax decuctable org? Sad but true, she has every loop hole down pat. She is becoming undone now though after a long time. Actually if the accounts are audited, they must show the largest expenses (eg, $150,000 went to external rescue orgs for dogs and $120,000 was paid to directors/board members as follows - they must disclose directors/board member fees paid). I used to be the internal accountant at a NFP and did the accounts and report for the auditor and annual report for our members. As they have the DGR, and those donations are tax deductible to the public, that they must disclose a lot more than we had to as ours was not DGR, so we only had to disclose to our members. The level of disclosure is quite extensive. Maybe have a look at a report like RSPCA's annual reports to get an idea on the level of disclosure required (or another unincorporated organisation that has DGR and tax exemption status).. If they are not using the funds correctly, she can lose her tax exemption status as well as her DGR status. The ABR site has the details of her registrations. She shut me down when I questioned her about her status and when the reports would be available. Said they weren't due until this financial year as her DGR and tax exemptions were not registered until August 2012. I asked why her FB page and incorporation was much earlier (April 2011 from memory).. She has been asking for donations for at least as long as the FB page has been going..

The white patches don't seem to be white, even after a bath. They used to be really white but now seem grubby all the time.. It would definitely be from lifestyle - he is a total mud monster and will play in any available water, puddle or mud... I just liked it better when the patches were really white. It is not that big a deal - he is just a pound mutt, he just looked prettier when the white was white (not a creamy dull colour).

I actually have that here and will give it a go tomorrow.. Thanks for all the ideas folks - I knew I would get the answer if I asked.

That was lovely of you to do that. I remember when Ollie dog was given his wings - my brave (then 20 year old son) came in with us to begin with but after Hamish started explaining what was going to happen he got really upset and said he couldn't stay. So he went and sat in the waiting room and the 2 girls behind the desk sat with him until I came about (about 40 minutes later).. I was hard for the kid, he had grown up with Ollie - He was nearly 6 when we got Ollie and 20 when we lost him. It is hard for kids when their dog has been there their whole life. I am so glad you could be there for the little girl..

I refuse to interact with MN - the woman has some serious issues. Not to mention her verbal diarrhea, spewed at anyone that dares disagree or question with her.

I don't understand it either.. -
80kg Rottweilers - Is This Legit?
Staffyluv replied to Simply Grand's topic in General Dog Discussion
LOL this kind of thing cracks me up. For some reason some people really get off on the whole mine is bigger than yours. Majority of Great Danes are around 60-70 kilos with the biggins being around 70-80 kilos - I highlyly doubt a healthy (not obese) Rotti would be that much. sas I just noticed the dane in your signature - a Harlequin dane? I have a 'friend' who just bought a puppy and it is an amstaff cross harlequin dane.. He tried to tell me that a harlequin dane was a breed all its own and not just a colour.. I know nothing about this and was wondering if you could clarify for me - PM is fine if you don't want to take this thread off track.. Sorry OP :) -

Oh that poor dog -
Thanks all, I had heard that about the whitening shampoos, so I guess I won't be giving them a go. WM he is no show dog (not even a purebred :) ).. Ollie had very little white on him, so I never really noticed that white could get dirty looking. Zig's white looks like the skin is showing through and of late (this is only a current thing) it looks like it is always dirty. It might go back to very white once summer is over and he is not swimming so much - I hope so, it looks so nice when it is really white.

Zig is mainly dark brindle but has 4 white feet and white on his chest and a bit on his tummy. He is washed in Aloveen when he has a tub, which isn't that often, maybe once a month or so. He swims every morning in the local park pond and his coat is really soft and shiny but I have noticed the white of his coat seems to look 'dirty'. I liked it better when it was really white. He does seem to have sensitive skin (why I don't bath him much as it seems to irritate him - have tried malaseb and aloveen, the latter seems to be best), so do I just accept that he is a grubby guy and his lovely white is not going to be lovely and white or is there something I can add to his food or do for his coat that will help keep his white, white? Thanks PS he is just a pound mutt, so it is not overly important - I just prefer it nice and white.

Same Aussie.. I was used to Ollie dog who was around 20-22kg most of his life and he could be a handful, I now have Zig who is 26-27kg and he is about as much animal as I can handle.. I seriously can't imagine a dog that big. My brothers old Rott, Reb, was a big boy but I don't remember him being over 40kg ever.. He was tall, muscular but still lean (for a Rott).. Such a beautiful breed, one wonders why someone would want to mess with it to make it different to the standard.. -
In all honesty, if it was me I would try to save the eye first if there is ANY chance he could regain some vision in it. If it didn't work out, then I would have it removed. Poor little guy, it is so hard when they are unwell. They can't say it hurts and most of the time they don't cry, they just get quiet and hide out somewhere safe. Good luck Esky - I am sure you will do the very best for him no matter what you choose.

You actually go to the photography schools studio. Exciting..

OK,, I am just about to sign up to do the full course - it goes for 17 weeks and costs $1300.. It better be worth it  I have just spent about an hour on the Camera Chicks website looking at Kelly Moore bags and I seriously want them all.. I know I can't have them all but I really can't decide. I like the Ju Ju or the Libby as bags to keep everything in. But I also really like the 2 Sues and the Mimi. I think I should wait and just keep using my Porteen Gear bag for now. I must admit I am pretty excited about doing the course - it starts in February.

It has BSB on the packet that it came in. It is a canvas sort of material and hooks onto the head rests on the back seat, and then swings over to the head rests on the front seats.
-
I just bought a back seat buddy for Zig because he swims each morning in the park pond and I wanted to look after the car seats. It's awesome and I wish I had bought it ages ago. There is a gap for the seat belts to come through, so I can clip his lead into the seat belt no worries at all. If people are getting into the car it is easy to remove or just flip back over the back seat (I have a corolla hatch) and humans can sit on a clean seat.

Is It The Weather? Hair Everywhere
Staffyluv replied to Loving my Oldies's topic in General Dog Discussion
 I laid down in bed last night and hair floated up around my face because one of the dogs had snuck onto the bed beforehand. Sometimes it just makes me want to scream That is a standard in my place.. Zig sleeps on my bed. -
That is the best news I have seen all week - congrats.

Yep, hair all over the place. I went to brush my teeth this morning and there was Ziggy hair on the toothbrush (yuck).. -
Isn't bird poop toxic to dogs? I don't imagine it would be very good for him. I hope you find out what is wrong with him but I think he really needs to see a vet and maybe get a stool sample to take up (full blood work up as well might help).

For Those Who Feed A Dog A Natural Diet ?
Staffyluv replied to Christina's topic in General Dog Discussion
Zig is raw fed and he gets some Eukanuba kibble a few times a week as a top up. Me, healthy diet? hell no, I am the junk food queen when I do eat these days. I try to be good but it only lasts a day or two before I can't be bothered cooking. If I make stuff at home these days it is so quick - like canned lentils, curry paste, tinned tomatoes and frozen veg (makes a great curried lentil and veg). Or another fave at the moment is haloumi (fried) in a wrap with some salad (from a packet).. The other 5 nights a week it is nothing or take away.. I have been like this since Dan died - I just can't be bothered (I know I should make an effort). -
Confronting An Owner Mistreating His Dog
Staffyluv replied to GSDowner's topic in General Dog Discussion
I hate seeing people hit and kick their animals - it disgusts me (and breaks my heart for the animal - if they do this in public, what would they do in private?)
