  1. I think a lot of dogs get bored in obedience classes and one thing that I have learned is to do some static work while the instructor is explaining stuff or we were waiting our turn to do some one on one stuff. High fives, turn at heel on the spot, catch a treat, which hand is the treat in, look at me (or that).. Check out the trick thread for some ideas on stuff that can be done on the spot.. It just breaks up the class and makes it more fun.
  2. No idea but Zig has a thing for Vizsla's.. His fave dog at obedience is a Viz and he had a big play with one at the park this morning.. He seems to make a bee line for ranga dogs.
  3. yeah, you gotta watch those electricity meter readers Worst reaction I have had to Zig was a silly woman taking our photo in the park (he was on lead) and telling me she was going to report me as 'those' dogs are supposed to wear muzzles..
  4. If she is stubborn and determined, you are wasting your breath.. Worst case scenario it will be the dog that pays the ultimate price, like they always do with selfish owners (may end up being rehomed). On the upside, she may take to dog ownership like a duck to water.. She certainly wouldn't be the first person to change her life to fit a dog into it :)
  5. Agree with others - mixed breed.. I can't see any staff in it at all - just looks like a random boofhead. Albeit a cute boofhead.
  6. Happy Birthday Stan.. I hope you get lots of goodies to eat
  7. Oh doG that is horrible... I just can't comprehend how awful it would be to have someone come in and take my dog away and kill him (all because of what he looks like). I don't agree with BSL in any way shape or form but if you live in an area where it is legislated, you must do everything to abide by the law to keep your dog safe (or move to an area where it isn't legislated).. Owning a staffy cross of unknown parentage in NSW, it is my responsibility to make sure he has the correct registrations, training and socialising..
  8. That is an old story - back in December last year.. But it still makes my blood boil, destroying perfectly healthy dogs just because of what they think they look like..
  9. Be kind to yourself SM - you are probably all still in shock and it is going to take time to heal both physically and emotionally. Do Stan and Maddie have other doggie friends that they associate with? Obviously not yet, while they both still have injuries but once they are physically healed it might be an idea to socialise them with calm and friendly dogs (even if on lead for a while), to help them recover psychologically.
  10. Contact Team Dog and ask them for some info. I abhor the fact you, as the innocent party, are being pushed into a corner not deserved. There must be a stand that can be taken for your rights. Again HUGS & LOVE to all of you. Correct me if I'm wrong but Melza is one third of Team Dog :)
  11. I have only just come in here, I don't know you or your dog but this thread worries me - the animal needs specialist care. His skin is already inflamed and bothering him (he is licking it to sooth it) - by continuing to experiment and try new things over and over, without giving any one thing a chance to work, I fear you are only adding to the problems he has. The ivermectin will take longer than 5 doses to get any result at all.. My last foster bitch was on it for 6 months for demodex and it was at least 3 -4 months before we saw improvements. Lots of things like diet etc will make sense to you but they may not work. A lot of the science diet blends are great but if he has grain allergies as well, then it could be making things worse (a lot of SD blends have grains). Try some raw meaty bones and a grain free kibble if you must use one (there are plenty of good brands out there). Feed him fish, oily fish like sardines in olive oil over his kibble for his omega 3s. I wouldn't use the neem oil soap again - it obviously didn't help matters as after use he was licking his feet again. In fact if he was my dog, I would stop washing him for a couple of days (and keep him off the grasses), let him dry out. There sounds like there is more than one thing at work against you with his skin - possible contact allergy, possible food allergy, possible infection and now possible lick granuloma.. Please seek specialist care (as previously suggested) - best of luck.
  12. I say she is bluffing and hasn't engaged the advice of a solicitor.. I would think a solicitors letter from yours to her, would get her opening her wallet again :) It might cost you to get the letter done up but I think it would be worth it, if there are going to be ongoing costs.
  13. I have just seen this SM, I am so very sorry.. What a nightmare for you, Maddie and Stan(even though he seems to have blocked it out, bless him).. Now she has paid, report it all to the relevant authorities.. I would also take her some pictures of your dogs and show her your injuries - she needs to be aware of the damage her loose animals have done. Wishing you all a full, speedy recovery.
  14. We used to use an electric blanket under a blanket on an old dogs bed years ago.. Keep it on low, so they don't get too hot. I also bought Zig some jackets from the Wolfs Den - they have a zip up the back, so easy to get on and off but they stay on and keep him warm. They are made from good quality fleecy material and if you speak with them, they will add an extra layer for more warmth. Link to coats
  15. lol, they are funny buggers. Zig will fall asleep on it as well.
  16. Totally spoilt rotten :) He has come a long way and I am so very proud of him..
  17. Can you get one of those bowls to slow her down when she eats? They have raised parts in the middle of the bowl and because of this, the dog has to slow down. Or my preferred method with dry kibble, is a treat ball (I bought the cheap on from pet stock, it's blue and you put the kibble in a small hole and then the dog has to roll it around to get the food out). It's fun for the dog and the can only eat what they get out, working for it. It's the only way Zig eats kibble now, he loves it..
  18. As above or you can use the HTML and remove the bits of code you don't need, then insert image..
  19. Thanks all. He had a super day. A big run at the park before breaky, which was a big bone and a bit of kibble (in his treat ball, the only way he will eat it now). Then he dug a hole to bury the bone and didn't get in trouble. Friends came over and threw his ball for him. He had kangaroo for dinner. Curled up I the lounge and snoozed from about 8pm, before going to bed with a biscuit for being such a good boy.
  20. Cheeky bugger..
  21. I have never understood the mentality that if you buy a dog from a breeder, you are killing a shelter dog.. Buying a dog from whatever avenue is a personal choice.
  22. :birthday: Happy Birthday to my gorgeous little superstar - 3 today...
  23. Again, the guy did help her, to her car, gave her his shirt and she said she was OK, so he left.. Some guy called to say it was his dogs and they were greys but the woman still says it was dobes - I think the guy would know what his own dogs are and you would hardly call and admit to it if it wasn't you, right??? I feel sorry for the lady and hope she heals quickly.
  24. And now they are adding insult to injury by making a joke out of putting down humans. No doubt to take the emphasis off the previous issues. Unfreakingbelievable!!!
