  1. Hi all, He is great, we have to go back to the vet on Monday to get stiches out and results of all tests... Vet still wants him to rest (ha ha)... He follows me around growling and barking (his way of talking) at me and when I turn around, the bum is in the air, the head is down and there is usually something he is NOT supposed to have in his mouth (it is the only way he can get me to chase him)... It is all fun and games... I think he is just bored because he has not been for a walk since last Thursday morning... Mooper, thanks again for the loan of the crate. I can drop it off to you when ever is convenient. He only stayed in it the first night, he will not stay in it now (howls like a banshee)... Thanks all Jodie
  2. So sorry for your loss... RIP Billy Jodie
  3. Just picked him up and he came bouncing out and jumped up on me and was all licky with the other dog at the surgery in the waiting room... It is almost like he has not had anything done... When I picked him up to put him in the car, he went all stiff... Must admit it is great to see him so bouncy, but the vet said not to take him on any walks etc for about a week... He has antibiotics and pain killers for the next few days... Have not been game to look at the 2 cuts and sutures yet... Cheers Jodie
  4. I miss him so much Mel... And I am not allowed to even visit - what sort of hospital does not have visiting hours??? Is it OK if I come around about 7.30-7.45 to collect the crate? Cheers Jodie
  5. Update on my sweetie... Vet just called and Ollie has had his surgery and he is sitting up (crying)... We discused Ollie getting sick from the anaesthetic and he used another one... When he opened him up to remove the bladder stone, half of it broke up and he had to flush his bladder to make sure he got it all - so that is good news... He also found a lump of tissue that looked out of place and so he has removed it and is sending it to pathology with the stone so we can find out what type it is... Hopefully it will be something that we can fix with his diet... I cannot go and see him as the vet thinks it will only upset him to have me come and go. But I can call anytime to check and I should be able to collect him tomorrow morning... Jodie
  6. Thanks guys for the support... Will be sure to let you all know how he goes tomorrow... He has to be at the vets before 9am tomorrow and depending on how it all goes, he may have to stay the night... Thanks Jodie
  7. He is pretty good today... He seems a lot happier, tail wagging a lot more and much more active... He seems worse (more blood in the urine) if he has run around a bit and the vet said that running and jumping may make the stone move, which will irritate the problem... Ever tried to stop a staffy running around??? Cheers Jodie
  8. Thanks for the offer of the cage Mooper but I think I will invest in one and when I do not need it, rescue can have it to use... I purchased Ollie from a farmer out at Bywong 8 years ago. Both his parents were there and so was the father of one of his parents (cannot remember which one). They were all staffys and apparently the mother had papers, although I never actually saw these (so I cannot say for sure)... It was an accidental mating as the owner was going to get her desexed and did not in time, so he tied up the male hoping he would not mate with her. Well he obviously did as Ollie looks just like his father (dark brindle) and his mum was a very light brindle and the old dog was a red (he was a good loooking dog)... So no medical history available, unfortunately... I am not worried about the hair growing back, it will when it does... He is feeling much better today, even wagging his tail... Not looking forward to Thursday, he is scheduled to have his surgery then, which means he will be ill again when I bring him home... He seems to get worse with every anaesthetic that he has. The nausea lasts longer and he vomits more. I might ask the vet for some anti nausea tablets (just for the first day). I would just like to thank all of you for all the support and advice, it is not over for us yet so I will probably be asking your advice again. Thanks Jodie
  9. I have been up all night with Ollie, he has been vomiting... Seems like it is just bile and I am assuming that it is from the anesthetic (spelling), as this is what happened when he had anesthetic last time... He is disorientated, seems lost and wants to go out all the time so he can be sick... This lasted until about 4.30 this morning... Poor little fella has to go through it again as his surgery is scheduled for Thursday. Vet said he may keep him overnight and I can pick him up Friday. As he becomes stressed after an anesthetic, I think he would be better off at home, than in the vets surgery all night on his own... Does anyone else have an opinion on this??? Also, I spoke with the vet last night and we talked about the surgery and he said it will be 10 days of rest for Ollie and no exercise... How do you keep a staffy still? Perhaps I should invest in a crate for the time he needs to be still and resting... Thanks in advance (again) Jodie
  10. The vet said there are 3 types of stones and only one is created from dietary problems, but they will not know what type it is until it is removed and sent away for testing... I am so relieved with the news we got today, I was so worried when they started talking about tumors and diseases... I think that our vet (who got the results before me) was relieved that it was a stone... When it was clear that there was no infection present, Hamish just said, lets hope it is a stone because we can treat that easily... Ollie is a bit groggy from being knocked out for the ultrasound and he now has two shaved patches, one on each side of him - maybe he can set a new trend in staffy haircuts... Hubby reckons I should put his coat on him for his walks or the other dogs might laugh at his haircut... Cheers Jodie
  11. Hi all, Just picked Ollie up from the animal hospital in Phillip where he had an ultrasound that showed a large stone in his bladder... So we have to call our vet on Monday and organise for him to have surgery to have it removed. Thanks for all the concern and well wishes while we have been having the tests. It has been great to have others to talk to that understand how I feel about 'just a dog'... (the response I get when I talk about him to some people)... Thanks again Jodie

    Sorry Rozzie, RIP Fudge Jodie
  13. Vet just called and after discussing Ollie with a someone else, they have decided that he should be having an ultrasound... This will be better, as they the vet doing the ultrasound will take a needle biopsy of anything found at the time of the ultrasound... So now we have to wait until next Friday and he has to go to the Phillip Animal Hospital in Canberra... I know I should not worry unless something is found but all tests and now the vet is talking to other vets - it is all a bit scary... Thanks for all the well wishes... Cheers Jodie
  14. Just got back from the vet and Ollies urine tests have more blood and protein in them. The samples are getting darker. Vet has now suggested that Ollie have an xray on Monday, where they put some dye in his bladder and sedate him, so they can see if there are any growths in his bladder... At this stage any sort of infection has now been ruled out as the lab work on blood and urine has come back clear... Please keep your fingers crossed for us... Thanks Jodie
  15. I am trying to get a urine sample to take to the vet this morning and he just will not oblige... I have to take him up with a sample as soon as I have one... Will update when I finish with the vet today. He does seem to be a whole lot better in himself. Thanks Jodie
  16. Thanks Miranda, It is a relief, I was so worried... We should have the final results back tomorrow. Cheers Jodie
  17. RIP little one, enjoy your wings... Jodie
  18. RIP little staffy girl... So sorry for your friend... Jodie
  19. Thanks again for all of your well wishes... Our lovely vet just called to tell us that the preliminary urine test is in and that Ollie has a ph level of 8.2 (alkaline, I think - anyone else know???) and that no crystals could be grown at this stage but they will continue with the testing for a couple of days... However there is a high concentration of red blood cells (he believes this is due to an infection)... So for now Ollie is still on antibiotics and he is feeling much better... We are sure there are no abnormalities or growths of any kind, which only leaves an infection which can be treated easily with antibiotics - great news... Thanks again. Jodie
  20. Antibiotics were started yesterday, just in case it is an infection... Still no temperature and lots of blood in the wee agian this morning... Fingers crossed that is all it is... He is off his tucker, so he must be feeling bad... But still wants to go for a walk... He is sleeping again (been sleeping heaps) at the moment... Thanks heaps all, Jodie
  21. Just picked Ollie up from the vet... Xrays were clear, bladder and all the other inside bits looked fine  Urine still has lots of blood in it and they are sending it away to be tested. Will let me know Monday So I guess we sit and wait again All his symptoms: Drooling - possibly from nausea Gulping his water - then vomiting it back Blood in urine - this is really visible, it looks like tea without milk Sore tummy when the vet presses it He does not have a temperature - which is why the vet thinks it may not be a bladder infection Anyone ever heard of these symptoms together??? Thanks Jodie
  22. Parvo is devestating... My family lost a little bully to parvo when he was 10 weeks old... He had never been out anywhere, but mum had a friend bring their dog over to play with the little one... Glad your little one is on the mend... Jodie
  23. I just wash it and trim the top and bottom off, then dice/grate/chop it... I often buy organic veges, but sometimes it is easier to pick them up at the supermarket, so I make sure that I wash all his veges... Jodie
  24. That sounds like every plant I have ever cared for  Ollie loves butternut pumpkin, carrots, swedes, broccoli, cauliflower and zucchini in his dinner... This has been a trial and error thing to get it so he really likes it. Jodie
