The buffy coat test is not back yet, so we don't know if there are any active Mast Cells in his system. But all the other are in: Thyroid is good White blood cells are good, but a little low Lymphocytes are lower than normal All pretty well to be expected, so no surprises - all good Cheers Jodie

Another update: We had a trip to the vets this morning to have another lump checked and even without testing, the vet said it was obviously a mast cell (it felt like one and is a bit ulcerated)... He also has a few patches about the size of a five cent piece where the skin is a little flakey and the hair is falling out... So they are doing full blood work to make sure that his thyroid meds are OK and to check white blood cell counts and a buffy coat test to see if the mast cell cancer is active (fingers crossed for us)... I will let you all know how the blood work comes back, when it does... The vet was very please with him, said he looks great; his coat and eyes are bright and he seems happy... Cheers Jodie

Excellent news... Must be all that DOL finger crossing - it works wonders you know. So happy for you lea Jodie

Fingers crossed for you lea... Ollie has a veterinary oncologist in Brisbane - once again we liaise by phone to discuss Ollies treatment. Your vet can deal with the oncologist on your behalf if that is what you want to do. We tried both conventional and holistic treatment and I really don't think Ollie would have done as well as he did with the chemo - it can be pretty rough sometimes. All dogs are different and I know one that has had chemo that breezed through it all with no complications. Good luck Jodie

Sorry no experience with liver tumour but my lad has mast cell tumours (cancer)... We had the tumours removed and then chemo. Plus we used holistic medicine from All Natural Vet Care in Sydney (we live in Canberra and liaised with them via phone and our vet here)... As well as his chemo and conventional meds Ollie took the following on a daily basis: 1000mg Vitamin C 1000mg Omega 3 (fish oil) AntiOx Lymphodran He is on some chinese herbs that the holistic vet prescribed for him at the moment... These are suggested based on the type of cancer and how far it has gone... Unfortunately for us, Ollie did not get clear margins with his tumour removal and it has spread via his lymph nodes (they were biopsied). So we are just trying to give him quality of life - the vet will not put a time frame on what we have left because it can vary so much... I am so sorry that you have to go through this with your dog. Good luck Jodie

Sounds like a perfectly normal puppy to me.. However if you are wanting to change certain behaviours then there are some really good training books around and you could ask your vet about puppy pre school... Also lots of good advice here on DOL... Our boy used to do the jumping up thing at food time and he also used to jump up to people. We (or whoever he jumped on) would hold his front paws, firmly but not to hurt him, and say down and put him down at the same time and praise him for being down - takes time and everyone must do it every time he jumps up but it works... Chewing is something that all pups do (even human babies put everything in their mouths)... I suggest some chicken wire or some kind of barrier around things like trees and gardens to stop that... Give him something he is allowed to chew everytime you catch him chewing something he is not supposed to be chewing and praise him for doing the right thing... If he starts to dig - which is entirely possible - give him an area where he is allowed to dig... My boy used to have an oversized terracotta pot (layed on its side, on a brick) filled with sand to dig in... To encourage him to dig here we used to put his favourite toys in and peanut butter sandwich pieces... I agree with you that he is much to small to be on his own outside... Now the most important thing of all is to post pics of the little munchkin so we can all goo and gaa over him Cheers Jodie

We are only charged about $30 for a consult as Ollie is at the vets a lot because he has cancer... If we go in just to get a prescription (with no consult) then we are not charged at all... if I call in to weigh him, he nearly always gets a quick check up in the waiting room by one of the vets for free. Sorry to hear about the ordeal your family has been through... Unfortunately these things do happen... Dogs usually have a fight or flight attitude to conflict, as your dog could not run away because he was leashed, he had no alternative but to fight (with his pack)... The advice received thus far is great... Good luck Jodie

To all our Dol friends, A quick update because we may be off line for a couple of weeks at the end of this week... We called into the vets to drop off a Christmas present to say thanks for all they had done for us this year and they just had to give Ollie the once over while we were there... He has lost another 2kg - which is good and bad... But he is looking well and still loving his walks, family and food (not necessarily in that order)... The vet thinks he looks fantastic and agrees that it is not his time yet - even though he continues to scare the bejesus out of me when he comes down with anything and everything... We are looking forward to a quiet Christmas at home with the lad - roast turkey is one of his favourites... He has heaps of presents; both from us and others in the family who know he is sick and have now considered him one of the kids... We just want to say thank you to all the DOLers that have helped us so much over the last 13 months since Ollie was diagnosed with cancer - THANKYOU! We wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Ollie dog and Jodie
