  1. Jodie, may I pm you for advice please. Absolutely, anytime at all. If I can help or what I have learned with Ollie helps anyone in anyway at all, it makes it all the easier. Cheers Jodie
  2. Well, that is a good start to the New Year, if ever there was one. Happy Days!
  3. Best of luck with George today Dru. You should get the results pretty quickly. Our vet looked at some of the removed cells straight away and could tell they were Mast Cell but we had to wait for the path results to tell us what grade and if we had clear margins. Praying for nothing at all but if it is, grade one with clear margins all round. Anne, so sorry to hear about your girl, there is lots that can be done to keep her well... Jodie
  4. Send a PM to Staffy Rescue, they have rescued and cured a couple of staffords with it and I can't remember what they did. All the best Jodie
  5. Best of luck with it Wolf Eyes. I would still consult an holistic vet if you have not already... Cheers Jodie
  6. Is her chicken organic? If not, maybe try organic meat instead of shop bought. I know my boy does much better on organic meat - expensive I know but he has cancer and the less interference with his food the better... He is on a plethora of medications, both holistic and conventional. Just a thought - do the ulcers go down her throat at all? If so, maybe it is reflux, the acid coming back up her throat from eating... If so, she can have mylanta until the vet can check for sure.
  7. 'cept Sue's not there anymore .. unless she snuck back without telling me. We have not needed their help for a while now, as I just continue with what was suggested - apologies for the mix up.
  8. This is the holistic vet that treats Ollie dog - Sue and Barbara are super vets  All Natural Vet Care
  9. KJ what was the diagnosis on the lump that was removed? Was it sent to pathology? I would be taking her back to the vet and getting full blood work done to make sure she is OK... With the stretching back and being hunched up, it could be something as simple as gas. Not sure about the front leg quiverring though. All the best with it Jodie
  10. Still having issues? The only other thing that I could suggest is taking her to an holistic vet. With the right tonic, she will be good as new in no time. I would be insisting on blood work to see if there are any infections or deficiencies in her blood - I think low Vit B is a cause for mouth ulcers. If your usual vet won't do it - go and see another one. It has been going on for a while and to leave a animal with discomfort for that long is not acceptible IMO (the vet, not you - I would stress this to the vet)... Good luck Jodie
  11. It is up to you if you want a second opinion but if my vet wanted to remove a lump from Ollie, then that is what I would go with - just my opinion. Or go back and request an aspirate. Go to a second vet and get an aspirate done - you should be able to have some form of opinion on the lump in a few minutes (our vet can do this in minutes). Now if you do choose to go ahead with the operation; there are two types of anaesthetic. One is used all the time and the other, you usually have to ask for - it is a little dearer (about an extra $20 last time for Ollie) and they wake up better and there are less side effects from it - they don't get as woozy or sick from it. I can't rememer what it is called but my vet knew what I was talking about when I just went in and told him that I had heard of an aneasthetic that was a little dearer but it has less side effects and they wake up better. The surgery may not be necessary but then again it may. It is a decision only you can make for your dog. With Ollie, they did the surgery, then he had to in again (four days later) as they did not get clear margins on the biggest tumour and they wanted to try again. They still did not get them the second time around and I wish that I had not let them do the second operation (in hind sight). All the best of luck for a clear result. Jodie
  12. Hi matey, Unfortunately I have heaps of experience with MCT. If it is in fact an MCT and you want to know anything, just ask. I will try to find Ollies thread so you can have a read, if need be. Here is hoping that it is not MCT Fingers crossed for a clear biopsy
  13. There is no need to worry about it until it is diagnosed as such. The best thing you can do, is have it aspirated and rule it out.. He has the fact that he is young on his side. MCT usually does not strike until around the age of 6 - 8 years but that is not to say that it has not been found in younger and older dogs. Best to be sure and an aspirate only takes a few minutes.
  14. Yep chiropractor - it could be a pinch in a nerve. They tend to be stiff if they have back pain. He is so cute..
  15. Ollie has a mast cell tumour on the front of his chest (and one on his rump, his belly and under a front leg) - sounds similar to what you are describing. Please get him checked by a vet. Dogs are NEVER to young to get cancer. Ask for a needle aspiration of the lump to be certain that it is nothing - don't just accept it when the vet says - it feels like a fatty lipoma (because that is what they said about Ollies lumps at first, until I insisted). Good luck and hoping all you get is a vet bill and a healthy dog Jodie
  16. So sorry for the loss of Pipa... She will be waiting over the bridge for you. RIP
  17. I know she will lick it off but try to put the manuka honey directly on the ulcers - good luck. You should see a result pretty quickly with what you are using. If not, back to the vets to maybe swab the ulcer and see if it some sort of infection. Cheers Jodie
  18. I agree with both of the above responses. If he runs flat out for a while, he may well have pulled a muscle. My sisters girl just did the same thing and hers was near her back and it pinched a nerve which made it harder for her to get around poor girl. The vet gave her an injection and then manipulated her back and she is fine now after a bit of rest. Starting him on joint guard or something similar now is a good idea for prevention later on. Glad I have on of those laid back staffords - he can still go flat out but he is really cruisey compared to my sisters girl, our first boy and lots of others I have seen. Cheers Jodie
  19. If in doubt, get them checked out! Any small wart, lump growth should be check - coming from one that should have heeded her own warnings. They could just be skin tags - nothing to worry about at all but they could also be something else, if I were you, I would rather pay the money and have a vet tell me they are nothing at all.
  20. Excellent news about Flash. We get all of Ollies drugs and herbs from the chemist and hebalists now - much cheaper than getting it from the animal doctors. The reason it is cheaper is that chemist etc buy there goods in much larger quantities than vets can so they don't have to charge as much. Cheers Jodie
  21. Manuka honey has been used forever for ulcers with great results.
  22. Just to let everyone know, that it is here again. Ollie was at the vets on Monday and they were telling me that they had lost a couple of pups and were treating a couple more at the time. They had seen something like 6 cases in a week. So sad, as so many pups just can't fight this horrid disease. Keep your babies safe. Jodie
  23. Once again, a warning that not all dogs in the one breed turn out to be 'bomb proof' around kids. Kids must ALWAYS be supervised when with dogs. We have had two staffordshire bull terriers (we still have our second lad) and they have both been great dogs. My sister bought a male stafford a few years ago now and had to have him PTS when he was 18 months old because his aggression just grew and grew to the point where he actually bailed her up in the backyard. She has also had 3 other staffords that have been beautiful dogs - it just goes to show, that you never know. Some dogs are just not right, so please do your research and buy from a good breeder that does breed for temperament. Good luck in your search Jodie
  24. A bit of background; the other ladies were joking with me because the GF is only 18 and wants a baby - from all accounts number one son does not want a baby. GF gave up a good job three days after they moved in together, so she could stay home and look after number one son... A baby is the last thing we want to hear about at Christmas - I cannot and would not condone an 18 year old pregnancy... The girls were commenting with tongue in cheek, so to speak
