  1. Sounds more like just regurgitating because he has had too much to drink... I would still get it checked out to be on the safe side - they are way to precious to us... Good luck
  2. ditto in this house.... Who ever heard of a Stafford sleeping outside :D If you don't want the pup to run around the house, then get a crate and keep it next to your bed - any chance you can get a blanket with the smell of the rest of the litter on it before you bring the little one home (That would be great to put in the crate with them). The only thing my lad destroys is pillows and doonas if the covers are left off them Oh and tennis balls and stuffed toys. For the record all pups bite and chew things, it is not just staffords Plenty of toys but don't let the pup have all of them at once, chop and change them every couple of days so it does not get bored. As for toilet training - that was easy. As soon as they wake up take them outside. Every time they have a drink or something to eat, take them outside. Every hour, take them outside.. Good luck and I can't wait to see pics of the little one...
  3. Dogs can take mylanta - I give my boy about 4mls and he is 24kg now. You can also get some meds from the vet, like carafate. If your vet suggests carafate, ask for a script and get it from the local chemist it is much cheaper than getting it from the vets.
  4. Is he actually vomiting or just regurgitating excess food/water? Vomiting is usually when the stomach contracts and the dog will often hunch over to bring up what ever is making them feel unwell. Regurgitating is just like a burp with excess water - my boy does this all the time but there is a reason and we know about it. I would suggest a visit to the vet to make sure there is nothing wrong - better to keep our furries safe. Good luck
  5. I hope all went well today (positive thoughts to you both). Ollie had a few DOLers over last night for a pat fest and he was the happiest boy in the world (thanks to Mooper, Vehs and Paula Canberra)... It meant he was up late socialising, so the old man slept in this morning making me late for an appointment (I could not get him up to go to the loo and for tablets and breakfast)... Hugs to you and Sophie Jodie and Ollie dog
  6. Totally agree. The chiro will want xrays anyway (just assuming here - otherwise how do they know what they are working on??) I have an old boy who has a front leg limp - comes from jumping off the lounge when he was a little tacker. As for keeping her still - crate! They make a lot of noise about being restricted but it is the best thing for her. Good luck
  7. I believe the power of positive thoughts is picked up by our pooches CnR... I am so glad to hear she is still pain free. Sending many positive thoughts for great test results. Hugs to both of you Jodie and Ollie dog
  8. That is great that she had so much fun at the park... I am so glad to hear it. I love to see Ollie have fun too - it is the day he does not enjoy it that I dread... Hope she is feeling better after her trip to the park. Hugs to you both Jodie
  9. Thanks Anne, he is a legend to me... I never thought I would get this attached to an animal because I am such a logical person (being an Accountant and all). Normally my emotions don't get the better of me. I have even managed to separate from my alcoholic OH without too much drama or emotion (well not as much as most people seem to go through). He is well enough in himself - I notice if he does not get his walk one day that he seems to be 'depressed' - not wanting to put human emotions on a dog but that is what it seems like. He just gets flat and does not try to play. Have not had a chance to get him to the vet this week - the whole week has just slipped by. Will call them today because I just want him checked out again... I am so proud of the little guy, he is such a battler that just seems to keep going. Bless him. Give the girl a bug hug from me Cheers J
  10. Monah, I have an 11 year old that sleeps for most of the day as well.. My boy has cancer and there have been a couple of times that I thought I was taking him for his last ride to the vets but he has proved me wrong on more than one occasion. I do think that I will really know when the time really comes.
  11. It is just an opinion. You have yours and I have mine - that is what a public forum is all about. Would be pretty boring if we all agreed with each other on everything..
  12. RIP Ashka... I am so sorry for your loss..
  13. What a lovey tribute to a boy that sounds so precious. Jodie
  14. I dont think its right to say a tall dog should not be bred from. It's entirely possible that two 16 inch dogs could throw an 18 inch dog. Its all in the lines. Reputable, registered breeders can still throw an occasional tall dog in their litters thats just genetics. It goes on to a debate that I've heard before, would you breed a dog with great confirmation that happened to be 18 inches and above the weight standard or would you rather breed with the 16 inch dog with the bad mouth. What would be considered a more serious fault? Yes it is entirely possible that two 16 inch dogs will 'throw' an 18 inch dog, I dare say it happens often... The fact is that the dog does not fit the breed standard - therefore should be desexed and homed as a pet... IMO it should not be bred from or shown in the ring because it does not meet the standard set down for the breed - just my opinion StaffordLove, nothing more. I am not a breeder. Would I breed a dog that was 18 inches as opposed to a dog with a bad mouth - NO, I would breed neither. Both would be desexed and homed as pets. I am not sure that a reputable breeder would breed a dog outside the standard either, I would like to hear from breeders if they do - would be interesting as to why. The breed standard is there for a reason. Stick to the standard and the breed won't end up bastardised. We won't end up with a 'type' instead of a 'breed'. I don't know about anyone else, but I like our breed just the way it is.
  15. Thank so much for that - will spend some time procrasinating at work later to read the link I have decided to start the milk thistle for Ollie - he has not needed it before and the vet suggested that he does not really need it now as there is only one liver enzyme that is off a bit. However if I start him now and the next lot of complete bloods come back OK, I think that proves a point... Cheers and hugs to you and Sophie today Jodie
  16. Do you mind me asking how much milk thistle she is on a day? And can I have a look at the link regarding the Neoplasene, if you still have it handy? I don't think you can ever learn enough about these things. Cheers J
  17. Ollie's leg is great (touch wood) and it only seems to bother him a bit when he has been sleeping for a while and then gets up - it is a bit stiff. He is doing really well at the moment. He just celebrated his 11th birthday on the 12 June - a date that no doctor thought he would see. I have noticed him of a morning or when he has had a long sleep - he seems to be very stiff when he gets up. So I am taking him, for a checkup this week and hopefully he can have another round of cartrophen injections to help with that. I am changing his Vit C to ester C when it comes in to see if that makes any difference. He is already on fish oil and glucosamine tablets. Cheers J
  18. The journey is always one step forward and two steps back - I have been thinking about you two for a couple of days. Your oncologist is not in favour of the use of alternative medicine because they don't understand it - don't let that worry you at all. Anne, you are doing what you think is right for Sophie and that is all that matters. Big hugs to both of you. Jodie and Ollie dog
  19. No the breed is still the same. The standard is correct. It is the fact that some breeders breed for bigger dogs that put them in a class that cannot be shown and should not be bred from - they don't meet the standard. If you buy from a reputable, registered breeder I doubt you would have this problem because they breed for conformation and temperament.
  20. RIP Josh, play at the bridge mate... I am so sorry for your loss.
  21. Best of luck to you and Jorja. You can use holistic medicine to compliment what your vet will be doing. Ollie has Mast cell cancer and we had tumours removed, chemo and holistic therapy as well - he celebrated his 11th birthday today and they said he would be lucky to see 2 years (he was diagnosed in November 2005). If you vet will send/fax the results of treatment and tests to the holistic vet, they can treat as well - it made a world of difference to Ollie. We used All Natural Vet Care in Sydney. Fingers crossed for that it all goes well.
  22. Poor baby, I hope she is feeling better soon.
  23. How heartbreaking for you, I am so sorry. R.I.P Schack & Will
  24. I am so sorry for your loss PP. RIP sweet Rosie.
  25. I would not feed it to her either CnR. It was offered to us as well. When I gave it to Ollie he sniffed it and walked away - I am still cooking for the lad and will continue to do so. Glad to hear that she is as well as can be expected. Go team Sophie. J
