Of course it is rare blue English Staffy.... I do hope the poor mite is reunited with mum ASAP.. You can bet your life the moron that stole it, won't know how to care for a pup that young.

Isn't it Logan Council?? Dogs don't have to do much to get a menacing dog tag in that council.. Poor dog, paying for his owners lack of responsibility.

Just curious, if the dogs already have upset tummies from food and or worms - does it matter if the food is changed over slowly? Would it be better to just dump the stuff that is already causing tummy problems and start the new stuff straight away? Just curious what others would do in this case? -
I will buy them just to change things up. I buy drumsticks, chicken wings, turkey necks, turkey wings and lamb ribs most of the time - I also buy brisket bones but they seem to be really fatty these days and he doesn't do well with a lot of fat.

What is that food?? Where is it available ?? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD Vets All Natural - you can get a supplement to add to your own meat (I use human grade kangaroo from Woolworths or chicken or turkey mince).. Link to the website - so you can buy online but I get mine from Petstock pet shop.. You can contact them to find a stockist near you.. My link I buy this to soak and add to the minced meat My link Zig has a sensitive tummy and if he eats too much fat, has jelly type poo and he hasn't had it since I moved him onto this. I found the Royal Canin low fat one is a good as a kibble addition. Mostly he just gets something on a bone with a little bit of kibble of a morning (turkey neck, chicken wing or drumstick, lamb rib or beef brisket bone - he is good with bones and has no trouble with them at all). Dinner is the minced meat with the soaked Vets all natural additive. (I make up a weeks worth and store it in the fridge). The amount to soak per grams of meat for your sized dog is on the packet.. It has really settled his tummy down - he does nice firm poo that isn't smelly and isn't huge either.. Be careful constantly changing foods though - it can make it worse. Sometimes you just need to stick with something for a couple of months to give it a good go (unless the dog is sick on it).. I use Advocate for worming. We get Kennel Cough vaccinations each year (as he is in obedience and seems to pick it up a couple of times a year, so the vaccination makes it less severe).. He is also C3 vaccinated each year (as he is in obedience and they require it - if he wasn't, I would only do it if he needed it).. -
My Dog Was Born Without Out A Tear Duct Opening

I do agree with you on that, but what happens to all the lines in my dogs pedigree if I tell all the breeders of my problem do you think that they will stop breeding? I doubt it. As I said one of the lines involves one of the best breeders in Australia. It doesn't mean you have to add to the problem - you know there is an issue, it could be passed on.. Sadly no one can make a person be a responsible breeder - it is up to each and every individual breeder to do the right thing by the breed they love.. -

Get a new vet... Dogs should not be on cat food, it isn't a suitable food for them. Cats and dogs have different nutritional needs. I would run a mile if a vet said to feed my dog cat food. Why not a clean raw diet? Or if time is an issue, as it is with me, I discovered Vets All Natural and Zig has never looked back on it. I always have some of the ready mad stuff in the fridge but you just buy the mix and soak it overnight and mix with good quality roo mince.. He gets that of a night and a bone of some description and a bit of kibble in the morning.I am using Royal Canine at the moment, the lower fat one. We never change from this because it works for him.. Can you stop them eating the possum poo? I realise it isn't easy stopping something that they seem to like and have access to. I hope you get it sorted,,it sounds very stressful, on all of you. -
I have a friend who has a small courtyard and had two dogs (poodle and small pom/terrier cross) - they did fine on it.. She said it was great but she also walked her dogs everyday and they were mostly inside dogs.. They did play on it though and she just used to pick up poo (like we all do) and hose it down every now and then (if we had no rain).. It was the professionally laid stuff with the proper drainage etc all done.. I used some fake grass on a verandah for old Ollie in a house that I had in Lismore (he couldn't get down the stairs on his own while I was at work) - he didn't like and wouldn't walk on it (I think it just felt odd to him). So I used to just go home every lunch time to take him out the front to pee. He was old and used to sleep most of the time I wasn't there..

It isn't all bad news - there are things you can do. Our oncologist never laid eyes on Ollie. My old Ollie dog was dxd with multiple MCTs when he was 8 years old. The biggest was on his rump and was removed but even after having a second go to get clear margins, it didn't happen. He had numerous tumours removed - the more we removed, they were just replaced with more.. Our vet here in Queanbeyan liaised with the canine oncologist Rod Straw in Brisbane as he was one of the standout oncologists with MCT at the time. We also liaised by phone and email with a holistic vet in Sydney. Ollie had 6 months of chemo and was holistically treated with chinese herbs and supplements and a radical change in dietk. All the specialists and our vet said he had 12-18 months, maybe 2 years with the chemo - he lived 6 years. He had two other surgeries for MCTs and also developed another cancer in one of his toes that was very aggressive, so the toe was removed. That was his last surgery at 11 years old. From them on it was all palliative care and keeping him as well as we could and as happy as we could.. MCTs are renowned for going up and down - they are there one minute and gone the next, which is why they are so often missed. I have an old thread in the palliative care section of health for Ollie and it details diet and supplements that we used. I wish you loads of luck and positive thoughts.

Pitbull Attack In Cabramatta Leaves One Dog Dead And A Police Officer
Staffyluv replied to Staffyluv's topic in In The News
Very true, even just emotionally. My poor housemate hit a cat last night and rang me in absolute hysterics. I rushed up with a few towels, some gloves and a chip scanner but the cat had run off. We just hope it went straight home or died quickly Being the person to hit an animal can be extremely traumatising. As there was no mention of them, I assumed (I know I shouldn't) that they kept driving.. -
He really is an amazing dog - I was so lucky his previous owners couldn't see that and that I got to have him in my life.. Thanks Seren - nothing can ever replace what we have lost.. Zig doesn't replace Ollie dog in any way. He is his own dog and I love him for who he is and what he does every single day.

Yep, Zig saved me... On 2nd October 2011, the police arrived on my doorstep at about 8.30am to tell me my 43 year old husband had been found dead at a mates place.. Three weeks and a couple of days later, after a 6 year battle with cancer I lost my heart dog, Ollie - he was 14.5 when he died.. It is still pretty raw, even now. On 31st October I collected my first foster dog from the local pound and while we were there we spotted Zig, who came home with us the next day.. If it wasn't for this dog, I really don't think I would have kept it together like I did. He gave me a reason to get up and get out of the house.. I would swap this dog for anything Day 26 May - Pet (the worlds best dog).. by jamoore photos, on Flickr

Pitbull Attack In Cabramatta Leaves One Dog Dead And A Police Officer
Staffyluv replied to Staffyluv's topic in In The News
Yep Mel, that is exactly what it is.. Not to take away from the little dog being attacked because the other two were loose but the headline makes it sound like the pits bit the officer. It also sounds like the little dog was loose as well because its owner couldn't be found at the time either.. What a mess.. -
My link CABRAMATTA police are investigating a dog attack which left one dog dead and a police officer with hand injuries yesterday afternoon. Officers were called to the Cumberland Highway, at Cabramatta, at 4.30pm after passing motorists noticed two pit bull terriers attacking a maltese silky terrier. On arrival police discovered one of the pit bulls had died, after being hit by a car, and the other was being restrained by a male witness. A police officer was bitten on the hand by the maltese silky, which had hidden under a nearby parked car. The maltese silky was taken to a vet and treated for puncture wounds to the head and stomach. After returning both pit bulls to their owner, it was established they had escaped onto the open road through a side fence. The owner of the silky terrier is still unknown. Officers are working with Fairfield Council staff to determine what, if any, action will be taken against the owner of the pit bulls. Firstly, I hope the owner of the little dog comes forward to claim the poor mite and it makes a full recovery.. Secondly the sensationalist headline just does my head in!!!!

I wash my bin out because I like to keep it clean - yes everything is bagged before it goes in but it still gets smelly, so it gets washed and disinfected. Sometimes bags leak or break when you toss them into the bin.
-
This. Putting poo in other peoples' bins is (in my opinion) really rude. Especially if the bin has just been emptied. In fact, putting it in a freshly emptied bin is beyond rude, it's dickish. Would the OP enjoy smelling some other dog's crap in his/her bin for a whole week? In my OP I stated that I would actually thank anyone putting bagged dog waste into my bin. So many people don't pick up that i would personally praise any efforts made by anyone to clean up after their dog. I'd rather it in my bin than on my shoes when I go walking after dark! My dog is raw fed and does tiny hard poops that barely even smell. Wrapped in a tied nappy bag I doubt anyone would even know it was in their bin. In fact that is how I dispose of it at home. Each day I just grab a bag, pick up the one tiny poop, tie it and toss it in the bin. I wouldn't care if you put it in my full bin before it was emptied.. I wouldn't be happy to find you putting it in my empty bin, as they get pulled in and washed out. I would have to handle your dogs waste (bagged or not, it turns my stomach to pick up other peoples dogs poo) and get it out of my bin, so I could wash it out.. I always use the public bins at parks and ovals or bring it home to my bin.

Sounds like he is settling in nicely.. good job. -
If they are bred and registered by an ANKC registered breeder, I guess they can.. I wonder how they would go in the show ring - hopefully the judges are rewarding the breeders of lines that stick to the breed standard more than they are rewarding those that don't..
-
Nope Pers they are not supposed to look like that.. It is very sad that people have taken two breeds, the SBT and more so the AST and bulked them up so much that they really don't look like the breed standard. The fact that breeders of SBTs are referring to them as English Staffy's would make me run a mile.
-
Don't forget they all have big square heads and weigh in excess of 14kg at just 3 months old.. Sadly, while there is a market willing to pay extra for this, they will keep breeding them.. What ever happened to improving the breed or even just breeding the best dog you can?

I find it can take up to 3 weeks before fosters get the gist of what is going on. They pick up bits and pieces but it seems that the 3 week mark, is the point where they really start to relax and fit in (like they have been here all along).. This poor lad, so glad he is in a better place now. I agree with the thunder shirt, they really do work wonders. Not sure if you do it or not but I find hand feeding new dogs that do seem unsettled works to get their attention.. I keep treats on me all the time with new ones around (Zig thinks it is great).. So offering them treats (or kibble mixed in with a few bits of bonus cheese), makes them settle near me because they want the food. Because Zig is always sitting near me to get his share, they sit as well and I find this the perfect opportunity to teach sit, if they don't know it. At least it gives us some focus time.. Good luck, I dare say he will be a challenge but it will definitely be worth it! -
Dr Harry is so full of it.. Ollie dog slept on my bed and now Zig sleeps on my bed.. I have no issues with dominance with my dogs. If they bed hog and I boot them, they get into the crate in the bedroom..
