  1. Are you a registered breeder? Maybe contact the breeder of your dog and have them mentor you through the process. They may have the relevant contacts to find a suitable mate for your dog.
  2. I think panoramis is like comfortis. My old dog was fine on it but I can't use it with my current lad, as he throws them up as well. Some dogs are fine with these and others not so much. As he vomited it up, I wouldn't think it would have much impact on his health. We use Advocate as a spot on for fleas, worms and heartworm treatment, it's just the one we found works for us. The only reason we use it monthly is for the heartworm, otherwise I wouldn't treat unless I had to. It does sound like there is something upsetting Archie. Could there be something in the yard that is making him itch? Some plants and grasses are horrible for some dogs. Often dogs lay in dirt because it is cool, if his skin is bothering him, the cool dirt would be a relief. Ziggy scratches every time we go to obedience training, so he gets a polaramine (antihistamine) before we go each time to lessen the itch. It seems to be the paspalum grass that makes him itch, licking his back legs and scratching his tummy, he also lays in the dirt for comfort. Have you given him a bath, with anything to soothe him? That may help. I find human rescue remedy works well with Zig to calm him. Just a drop or two in his mouth or put some in his water, so he gets it all day long (if we are out and he is stressed). I would be seeing another vet to get another opinion. Video his behaviour, write down everything, so you don't leave anything out. Good luck, I hope you get it sorted.
  3. Love it for Zig as well. I changed to VAN a while back and he is a ball if energy, shiny coat and less poo... I do feed raw bone (chook, turkey, lamb) with Earthborn Holistic kibble of a morning and he gets the VAN of a night. We did try the Royal Canin kibble but he won't eat it anymore, so went back to EH..it seems to be the one he likes and does best on, so I am sticking with it now.. I also love the convenience of it.
  4. I agree with others, there is no rehoming the dog - it is simply the wrong thing to do. If you can't keep her, then there really is only one option for her. It sounds to me like she is very stressed (as are you, no doubt). Tippi being good at home and not out, isn't an unusual thing - my boy is much more likely to not listen, won't take treats, outside of home. The only thing I found that would get his attention is his tennis ball, so that is what I use - he values it above all else. Training outside of their normal environment, takes a lot of time and patience - I have been working with Zig for nearly 3 years and I think we are probably about half way to where I want him. We train almost every day at a couple of locations - the local leash free park and the local town park. We also do a minute or two here at home a couple of times a day. Zig is reactive but not aggressive - he is a lover, not a fighter. However his over the top enthusiasm makes dominant dogs at the park, want to put him in his place. I have seen this a few times (why I now go at less busy times and with dogs we know). I feel for anyone with an aggressive dog - it can be very hard. I wish you loads of luck and if you decide to keep her, it may be a hard road ahead but that is a decision only you can make.
  5. I only had male dogs as pets but tend to foster females, so we have a nice balance. I think in all honesty, I would prefer to have a male as a pet - I find them 'easier' going. I did have one male foster, that I got before Zig, so he was here when Zig came home and they got along fine. Growing up we usually had a mix of male and females - the girls were always more in your face and the lads seemed to be more chilled out.. Just from what I remember but I think they were mostly, equally cuddly. Zig is the first dog I have ever been around that isn't really into cuddles - he will tolerate them but you can see that he would rather you didn't do it. If he wants to be close, he comes and lays over my lap and as long as I don't get cuddly, he will stay there but is more than happy to get up and leave if I hug him.
  6. Welcome to the forum. I am sorry about your little one. Another vote for Steve at K9 Pro.
  7. I can't bring myself to look at the facebook page anymore.. I only read the story online, so no who is taking him. I thought the comment of the Cairns Mayor was pretty ordinary as well - by all means, say you don't want the dog there but his elaboration was disgusting.
  8. Looks like he has gone south to NSW http://www.9news.com.au/national/2014/09/01/14/27/hugo-the-dog-freed-from-death-row The story says he has gone over the border (I realise that could mean any border but the closest one is NSW, so I just assumed)..
  9. lol, he was Tassie - every time another dog was in there and found the prize and was told they were good - he would go nuts, like it was his turn again.. He is a bit distracting but he started to chill after a while, which made it even more fun..
  10. Thanks Snook - he had so much fun.. So did I - it is always fun learning something new and this is something he can do that won't put any pressure on his hips - so even better.
  11. Zig and I got up early and went to a noseworks workshop - where he had to find his tennis ball (because he couldn't make it easy and sniff for food, like all the other dogs).. We had a blast - it was so much fun and I can't wait to do it again. 12. The OP said that the previous owner isn't even sure whether the dog HAS a chip or not! It could be in anyone's name or no one's name. I read that but as it is a purebred dane (which isn't a breed you see offered for sale just anywhere), it is quite possible that it actually is chipped and they will find out tomorrow when it is taken to the vets. I hope it is chipped and the OP has some recourse to get her money back.
  13. Perhaps a solicitors letter to the previous owners would see the funds returned - they have sold a dog that has attacked another dog and tried to attack a child and it is still chipped/registered to them! I agree with sas, return the dog - I doubt any vet would euth it for you, as it 'legally' isn't your dog yet (I could be wrong, maybe some vets would).. I really feel for the OP, what a terrible situation for you to find yourself in.
  14. It is a decision so many of us have had to make for our beloved pups.. Believe me when I say to you 'you will know when it is time'.. My old SBT had mast cell tumours and was originally given only 12-18 months to live.. Six years later after, we got up in the morning, went for our usual 100m walk that took near half an hour (he loved it and I would have done it over 2 hours if it took that long). That morning he played under the sprinklers, barked at the other dogs and he had fun (he always did in a very old slow way). I had to go out to clients and when I got home in the afternoon my son said that Ollie wasn't well.. I went into him and the way he looked at me, I just knew it was his time. He was 14.5 but battling MCT for so long had finally taken its toll and he was tired. He made no attempt to wag his tail or get up - he just lay there and I just knew. So I called the vets and our wonderful vet made some time - he offered to put Ollie on a drip but agreed that we would be back here in a few days or so and it would just be buying him time and making him pain free. I never wanted to drag it out - I wanted him to go out on a high and he had a great morning before he went down hill. So we said goodbye. My dripping tears all over his beautiful face and him giving me one last kiss.. I am sorry you are at that time when you realise the time is near - wishing you loads of strength when you need it most.
  15. I had mine professionally fitted (because I am a bit challenged in the home repairs and maintenance area).. I actually took the door out of the frame for the first week and Zig went through it with no issue, then I put door back in (it sort of slides into place). I made a fly screen curtain for it and only use that in summer time and put the plastic door back in for winter time.
  16. All the time - mostly family.. My father was disgusted that I spent well over $10k on Ollie's treatments when he had MCT and the ongoing treatments over the next 6 years. He said 'he should be put out of his misery'.. Ollie was loved and not in pain, so I didn't see the point of giving up. Now he carries on about the amount of time I spend 'training' Zig - he always asks 'isn't it trained yet'.. I don't bother trying to explain any more. This is a man who won't let his wife keep her Chi in the house because she did a wee inside. Poor baby girl sleeps under the house and is a backyard dog..
  17. Possibly in the hope that they would build some empathy for them but I agree, they should never be allowed near them or to own them ever again.
  18. Stupid page - showing pictures of children that have been attacked by any dog but Hugo.. Another BSL promoter, nothing more. I hope Hugo doesn't go back to his owners, sadly that only leaves one option for the lad.
  19. Our oldest family dog was a GSD 'Rinny' - he was 16 when he was given his wings. My oldest dog (I have only had 3 on my own + fosters), was Ollie and he was 14.5 when we gave him his wings back in October 2011. I still miss him every single day. Ollie was mostly deaf for the last couple of years - loud noises never woke him, he didn't hear people coming and going but he could hear a treat packet opening from a couple of rooms away :)
  20. Great idea to get some professional help - it will give you the confidence to deal with a pup that sounds a bit frustrated. I can vouch for the fact that more exercise doesn't make it easier. I have a rescue boy and used to let him run for a couple of hours a day and I got the point, where I couldn't wear him out. A meeting with a local behaviourist and she explained that all I was doing was creating a very fit dog who wanted more exercise. Zig now gets about half an hour a day plus about 4 or 5 training sessions (I work from home). The training sessions are short, maybe a minute or two each. A heeling session, a focus session etc.
  21. I so the same mostly. The only thing I have found that upsets garbage guts is fat. If he gets something fatty he gets really sick from it.
