I have put my hand up for the little staffy cross girl at Queanbeyan pound. I can pick her up tomorrow afternoon but need temp care for her from when I pick her up until Friday evening about 6:30ish pm... I have a 2 day course to go to but could possibly get my son to look after her on the Friday, so only Wednesday night and all day Thursday (if I can con the kid into helping).. But worst case, will be temp care for the 2 days... Does anyone have room for a little girl for a couple of nights from tomorrow?

Happy days, now they can be mud monsters together.. I think it is going to be pretty muddy on Sunday - it has hardly stopped raining here since last weekend

Animals on TV. Ziggy loves it when there are animals on the TV, he stops everything and watches until they are gone... You should see him with the dog whisperer or even better, the big cat diaries on foxtel.. Also water and mud - if there is water or mud, he has to be in it..
-
On our walk this morning (because it is raining again), there were heaps of puddles and mud and he walked through every one of them.. There are so many mud monsters
-
OMG look,at them all... That is pretty well what the boy looked like... It is funny my old man stafford hated getting his paws wet on damp grass and this new loon just can't stay out of water or mud...
-
Everyone was just laughing at Ziggy on Sunday... He tends to be the clown at the park... I love to see them have so much fun... I can always shower him, he is more than happy to walk into the shower and get hosed off...

Haha wuffles, that is where it was... Ziggy and this humongous 9 month old boxer (it looked more like a mastiff sized dog than a boxer, I have never seen one so big) were having a right old time. Although Ziggy was the only one who ended up covered from head to toe... Edited to add.. You weren't there last weekend were you? Those two look very familiar... We have been going every Sunday at around 10am

Ziggy loves water and will do anything to get in it. He even tried to sit in the water bowl at the dog park on the weekend... He always has a full clam shell and sits in it even while it is raining.. He also discovered mud... There was a large puddle at the park last week and this weekend most of the water was gone and it was just a huge mud bog... When he layed in it, it came half way up his side and he was snuffling through it like a pig. Flipping the mud up with his nose. His whole head was just about under the mud at one stage. Then he decided to share all that mud with everyone by doing zoomies around everyone... It was pretty funny at the time but I had to bring him home in the car and shower him... Man did he stink... It was raining today and he has now made his own mud bog out in the back yard... Anyone else have dogs that love water and mud?..

Ollie dog slept on the end of my bed until he went to the bridge and now the new lad started sleeping on the end but is slowly working his way up the bed.. He is about the middle now. He will sleep on his own bed in my room or on the lounge but much prefers to be with me... I have a big bed with just me in it, so I don't mind.

I thought it might go poof.. I hope you stick around pippa, DOL is a great place..

You would be amazed at the amount of people that do not know what a real staffordshire bull terrier looks like... I adopted a gorgeous staffy cross from the local pound when Ollie dog went to the bridge and the amount of people at the local dog park who think he is pure just stuns me... I had one woman say today he is a lovely example of his breed and has such a great temperament. I explained to her that he is a cross breed and obviously has some staffy in him but he is way to big to be a stafford at almost 11 months old and already 23kg.. She thought they were all that big. Just on cue, my adorable little foster girl, Coco, who is a pure stafford turned up for a play date and I showed the woman what a real stafford looks like... She said, 'I would have thought she was the cross as she is so small'... Coco is 14kg... So many people genuinely don't know what a real stafford looks like...

She is getting so much better. She came up to me about 5 times today... She is such a sweetie and so,tolerant of Ziggy being a silly lad... It was great again, Ziggy came home, had a shower and slept the rest of the afternoon away...he is crashed out on the end of my bed now... See you and Lando the same time next week... -
Congrats on the new puppy..we wiill of course need lots of pictures of the little lady... Food wise, talk to your vet but I am going to suggest a good quality kibble, like Nutro or Eukanuba or Royal Canin.. There are some really good ones out there. As well as some chicken necks from the butcher or supermarket. Raw meat and bones are good for dogs. I prefer human grade meat but plenty of people use pet mince (not my preference). Add in a tiny bit of cottage cheese, some sardines or tuna and you have a reasonable diet. But do discuss with your vet and check out the health section and puppy section here on DOL for some added info. All the best and congrats on the new puppy Edited to add Pav has given you awesome advice.. I didn't see her post until after I checked the spelling on mine (iPad tries to spell everything for me)...

Nobody's suggesting not to spayed her at all, just suggesting that it would be better for her to have ONE season if you can cope with it. Then have her spayed Sorry to hijack your thread but can I just ask, why is it better to let the pup have one season before desexing? I am in the process of researching to get another purebred stafford (after losing my old boy late last year) and would like to know why? What about males, should you not desex before a certain age? I have never wanted to breed with dogs so mine have always been desexed as soon as possible. Thanks in advance

We grew up with Staffords and our family has continued to have them over the years. I think between us we have had about 12 dogs. I have never had this issue, nor do I know anyone that has.. Perhaps it is a new issue with some breeders breeding for a particular type of dog?? I would not be doing any form of surgery like that just on the say so of one vet. I would want a few vets to say it was all 'necessay' before putting the dog through surgery.

I come and go at different times day and night and Ziggy is always waiting but he hears the car... Ollie dog on the other hand was totally deaf at the end but would still get off the lounge before I pulled into the driveway. The kids always joked he was psychic because they knew when I was coming because Ollie would get off the lounge and go to the door... He never got off the lounge for anyone else until they were inside and he saw them... Ollie's ashes are in an urn in the cupboard and Ziggy checks that cupboard every single day. He just goes to the cupboard sits and waits a few seconds and then leaves it.. The other night, zig sat in front of the cupboard for ages, just looking at where the urn is.. It is inside on a shelf that he can't see... I called him a few times and he would not even look at me. My sister in law had an old red ACD and when she was about 37 weeks pregnant the dog would not go to work with her hubby (she went every day) and hung out with Karen all day until about 4pm when she started barking at Karen... Her water broke without warning about 5 minutes later. No other signs that it would be an early labour at all... I think animals are very perceptive and aware of their environment... I think it is weird... But it is just what, he does..

We get there around 10ish and stay for a couple of hours depending on the weather and the dogs... You could always bring her after training. -
We have the cutest corgi pup who comes to the leash free park on the weekends and he plays with Ziggy and the other bigger dogs. He has the best personality and he is so über cute... He is a ball of energy. Last weekend his owners called him as it was time to go and he sat there in the middle of everyone (i don't think he wanted to go home)...
-
Rest in peace Tammie... I am sorry for your loss, it is so hard to let them go but you did the very best for her...
-
Agree with Sandra777. As much as I love my breed of choice, I rarely suggest it to others. I would never recommend a stafford to a novice family. Great as they are, they can be stubborn, pushy and a confident owner... Just my opinion..
-
Most of the staffords I know are very friendly dogs and will happily play with anyone... I am sure this person will come across dogs that won't let him in but there will be lots that will allow him to come in...
-
Glad to hear she is coming home

Great news - now you might need an epi pen at home for those just in case times
