  1. Kira and I will be there! I'm really excited, I'm hoping we'll get some great advise on how to improve miss wild things heeling and then we'll get those last 2 Open passes easy How long does it take to get from Macleod to Geelong? I'm staying at my Grandma's cause I'm not keen on leaving at 5-5.30am and then drive 3hrs from Shepp and expect either of us to learn.
  2. Blush: Mistbythamuch (Get Smart litter I seem to recall) (2/3 JD 1/3 AD) Denny: Phantom Menace - he can be a little dennis the menace at times I'm a bad Mum, forgot my two other babies: (Kira) Kizza CD JD SPD (1/3 CDX 1/3 SD 2/3 GD) Narmi CCD (1/3 CD)
  3. Hi Helen, Unfortunately I'm not going to be at the Royal, at this stage I still don't think Kira could cope with all those people, and I'd probably fall asleep . Ballarat closes on 5th October, if the Springer's not going to be there I'd love to pair up with you guys, although I might be a bit distracted watching you babies jump sooo high and clean!
  4. Nope not sore - must have been the 3.5hrs in the car  Can Blush jump 600 though?!?!? The dogs weren't tired either - spent ALL day in the city yesterday!!! When I train Blush I have the jumps set at both 600 and 500. Someone told me this helps to keep them sharp??? Blush isn't super quick either, her two jumpers passes have been in times of about 22-24 seconds. She is improving with every trial though and seems to be getting quicker as she gets more confident! Your puppies are lucky, where's my trip to the city. I would hate to think what would happen if I took mine to the town, Blush would end up with RSI from doing wiggle bum all day at people, Narmi would have to be rolled home after eating all day and Kira would have taken off and run home, not a social butterfly
  5. Are you sore after Hastings LP? I think someone snuck into my room on Sat night and beat me I'm that sore If you want an all Aussie team Blush is also after a Novice pairs partner???
  6. Thanks for that PAX - I wouldn't have even thought of that! I'll get emailing them, wish me luck
  7. I'm in Victoria and need a partner for excellent pairs with my dog Kira, our original partner is now taking a break from trialling, no falling out just in case anyone was thinking that! My girl is fast (although can be a tad crazy, we're working on it and is in the 500 class (she can jump higher if necessary). We're entering Ballaarat (spl) and Warragul at this stage. Oops and we're doing Warrinagl too! If anyone needs a partner or knows of someone who's after one please let me know, we're keen, ready and able! The pic below is of my girl, Kira.
  8. Dragged my tired and sore body to obedience training yesterday morning and decided to work with Denny. We have been working on our recall a bit lately. He comes in at a nice pace but has been getting a bit antsy when I return around him (stamps front feet). I called him, came in nicely, I returned around him and stupid me trod on his stumpy as I when around him (he's an Aussie with little stumpy, you'd have to be trying to stand on it). I was so proud of my gruby boy, didn't move a muscle, just gave me a silly head and puffed his chest out.
  9. We just got home bout half hour ago after a looooong 3 1/2 hr drive - my butt is so sore from sitting in the car, luckily it's well padded We had a great day out as LP said! Blush got a pass in Novice Agility and 3rd place, go Aussies. My crazy, mad girl Kira got 3 passes!!! Novice Snooker, Novice Pairs (and Title) and Novice Gamblers (and 1st Place). Well done Leo on your beautiful Agility run and 1st place, such a good boy!
  10. I'll be there Rexy. I'll be there with my Aussie girl and my CRAZY black girl! Fingers crossed for Blush's Novice jumpers title and Kiz's Novice Pairs title! LP, if I can fit 3 people, 2 dogs, and overnight stuff in the back of my little Hyundai Getz I'm sure you'll be able to squeeze your crew in, it'll just be a very cozy trip On the up side, at least your trip won't be as long as ours - we have a 3 1/2 hr drive and Kira gets a bit gasy (spl?) in the car Bring Kinta, I haven't seen her yet.
  11. We must have been in some of the same classes as you at Croydon! I'll have to keep my eye out for you (when I'm not running between 3 rings at once). Are you entered at Hastings this coming weekend? I haven't looked at Knox's schedule but you should try Snooker - we've only done it once at had a ball and it seems pretty straight forward - not too much adding up to work out if you've scored enough points to pass, my maths is shocking We're having another try this weekend at it. Good luck for Knox if you enter.
  12. We were at Croydon and I am happy to report that Blush didn't leave the ring to see her adoring fans I think she must have realised that the crowds not there to see her, poor girl :D I was really hoping she'd get her novice jumpers title there but unfortunately she decided on Saturday that ALL tunnels had a hidden boogy man inside and had to be approached very slowly and to first stick your head in and check it out then look at mum and then go through. Got 2 passes with my crazy black dog at Croydon!!!!! Got 1 in novice gamblers and 1 in novice pairs - was over the moon and very happy with my girls, they both tried very hard.
  13. You'll just have to come on a holiday down to Victoria and borrow mine - he's a cabinet maker and I've got him working good In 4 years he's made coffee table, outdoor setting, bookshelf, bed, pc desk and tall boy. And that was without me ever having to bribe him  At our obedience club you have to pay to have a family membership if there's 2 handlers.
  14. 2 obedience, 1 agility, tracking club and breed club
  15. I'm about as subtle as a freight train and have, unfortuantely, on a few occasions upset my hubby by jumping down his throat about mucking up the dogs training - I'm just too quick off the mark some times I have found that like you greychicken, my dogs won't heel for him when walking on lead and don't do auto sit for him - now just let them go and when I walk the dogs they are still good for me (must be my "serious eyes" look I give them!) My OH is a very handy guy and he loves to make me stuff I need/want, agility equipment, puppy pen, dog yard, kennels, even made me a cat avary. Perhaps you could suggest this?
  16. Absolutly I agree. I know I'm holding my oldest dog back (I am working on improving that though). With obedience I use to go into the ring and think "Oh s#$t I hope she doesn't do anything naughty" then she would and I'd be like "yep, she screwed up again". Problem is me - bad body language sending dog wrong message - me not confident. She's my first dog and thankfully very forgiving and a quick learner so we are slowly working on fixing up past bad habits. In the agility ring it is DEFINATELY me, I'm a bit slow with my signals and because my dog is fast it drives her crazy (her trying to run and me co-ordinating moving, breathing, avoiding obstacles and directing all at once I am getting better and one of my other dogs has started in the obedience ring and we are experiencing none of the "Oh s#$t" moments - it doesn't even cross my mind. As feralpup said as long as we're having fun then that's what matters!
  17. Just thought I'd put my 2 cents worth in! When I enter a trial in Melbourne I will only enter a double. The reason behind this is because it's a 5hr return trip (minimum) for me and I want to make an entire day of it. However, I will not enter a trial and drive all that way if my pups weren't ready for it and I thought they couldn't pass. Both my dogs seem to do better in the afternoon trial, my yellow girl is consistant in both but definately sharper in the arvo. I'm having probs with my black girl's heeling (I'm pretty happy with other stuff) and you'll see us at Gina's workshop - one of us is lean, fit and has shiny black hair and the other one is carrying a bit of extra condition (it helps keep me warm in winter ) I, personally, scratch from the stays if my dogs aren't passing, espcially at CCD. I would hate for them to learn bad habits and then have to re-train when I could have avoided the situation in the first place and (although it hasn't happened yet, touch wood) I would hate for my dogs (who weren't passing) to break and in doing so caused another dog to break who was passing. Our club is good at proofing and providing plenty of distractions on stays- keys, squeaky toys, dog walking among them balls, etc!
  18. Congratulations on your first trial! I have been trialling for almost 2 years and have found the judges to be very helpful and full of different suggestions. I have only ever come across 1 lady judge (not from my state) who scared the pants off me and my dog. I still remember my first trial, drove all the way to Geelong (3hr) and it was pouring with rain. I was so nervous I think I probably lost 5kg on my way to the trial. Dog did ok but I walked like a drunken sailor Have fun and good luck in the future!
  19. What BC is saying is what I have done with my 2 ladies and now both have nice stands. I hit a wall with this method though with my boy, he hated it, would jump around like a big turkey. He ended up learning stand by his nightly routine of putting his coat on at bedtime. Hard to explain, but basically I told my black dog to stand, big praise and coat on, then repeated with yellow dog and then did same with him. Some may think I'm bit mean but after 6 nights without his coat he now stands very nicely, day or night, me armed with a coat or not armed with a coat!
  20. I'll train in the rain (obedience/tracking only) Kira loves the rain and works better the heavier the rain is.
  21. Desexing is unnatural however so are a lot of things in the world. I think that ALL pets (cats, dogs, rabbits, etc) should be desexed if they are not registered purebreds that are being shown or part of a breeding program. My 2 xbred girls are desexed, so are my cats and my pony.
  22. My black dog pulls like a demon if I walk her using a flat collar, I tried a halti but it distressed me too much watching her face plant (I know it would have stopped eventually but I didn't think this battle with the halti was worth fighting cause I know there are other products available) I got a sporn harness for her and I think it's great! She pulls a little bit from time to time but only when there's MAJOR excitement (i.e. cats, ducks running in front of her).
  23. I'm fairly new to dog training and I was having the some problems in the begining with my girl Kira in getting her to hold it. She'd wait, zoom out fetch it, bring it back, sit in front of me and spit it out on my feet. My club use forced method too and Kira told me where to put the dumbell when I tried that method on her  After a couple of months of trying to force her I bought a squeeky dumbell which I only used in training (my dog is OTT, very high energy, no food/toy motivation required, all she needs is a big "yesss good dog" and she thinks she's itandabit). I turned it into a kinda game: sit, wait, fetch, hold and if she held it then I'd throw it again if not I'd turn my back, game over. After about 2 sessions of this Kira got it and she loves the dumbell part of obedience!
  24. I have a 18mth yellow G/retriever x who could join your crew and because she's so young you could put her on junior wages My little turkey dug so deep she hit the storm water pipes in the backyard
