  1. I have a passenger (human) so the 3hr drve home won't be as bad! Don't know bout Helen's knee but my specalist is talking about reconstructing my bloody medial (spl?) ligament in my foot again, useless bloody thing. I say just cut it off at the ankle and give me a super duper man-made one - can't be any worse than the al-natural one I am so excited it'll be interesting to see how the doggys perform after the break. And I've been extra good - I've started going to a personal trainer 3 times a week so hopefully this season I'll be a bit fitter!
  2. I'm in agreeance with you here FP as I live in the country too and it's not as easy as driving to the KCC park (for FOO) or another club (one & half hours away) to get a second opinion. I do however agree with DD that there are too many dogs in the CCD ring that shouldn't be there because they're not ready. In Narmi's first ever trial (it was pm trial) in the down stays a dog broke as soon as handler turned their back and stood over Narm Narm was passing and bless her soul (and all the proofing we'd done) she ignored this dog (which had bombed every excersise prior to the stays). When the CCD was the Encouragement class and no titles awarded their was barely any entries now it would have to be one of the bigger classes.
  3. Big hug from us Helen! If you ever get so bad that you need a "hit" of agility you're most welcome to run Kira - she'd sell her soul for a run at agility She couldn't care less who pilots the plane so long as she's flying
  4. What if the dog CAN do a "return to heel" ? Is he NOT allowed to in CCD? Or is it an option? Someone's already pointed out that it's not optional but just thought I'd add how important it is to read the rule throughly. First time I did this class with Narmi when she was about 6mth old I did the "return to heel" with her and managed to fail Boy was I pissed at myself for being so STUPID. Poor baby got 79NQ. It was a double trial and in the afternoon I remembered and we passed!!!
  5. You can cheer big for us - that way it may drown out Kizza's barking! I think it starts at 5pm - feel free to correct me anybody if I'm wrong. I am seriously considering wearing ear plugs cause Kiz noise really gives me the poos, too loud. I'm a spoilt sport aren't I :D
  6. Another difference between recall is in CCD is that the dog doesn't return to the heel position. The dog is told to wait/stay by handler, handler leaves dog, handler calls dog, dog comes and fronts the handler and the handler returns around the dog. Sorry if that isn't clear, makes sense in my head!
  7. I know it's still a week away but I can't wait to get back in the ring! Is anyone going to the trial? I'll be there with Kiz, Narmi and Denny (if the little sod gets over his suddern adversion to tunnels)
  8. A little OT but anyways: Kira was (and sometimes still can be) a complete dick when it came to obedience - always train well but give me the middle claw at trials When she was 2 I got Narmi and boy did her results improve - title in one weekend. I think a little bit of competition for my attention work wonders (although that was not my intention when I got Narm). I think the maturity thing is a part of his willingness. Kiz has only (in last 4-6mths) just started not to be a spaz all the time in the agility ring. She is a lot more consistant and WAAAAY calmer. She's now almost 5 (only took 3 years for her to grow a brain)
  9. That's why I want to bring Kiz - she's absolutly MAD and has a really high drive - balls, tugs, me moving, chicken, cheese (anythings good in her books), she use to be an absolute skitz in agility but have learnt how to use that hyper to my advantage, been a long process and learning curve. Still haven't worked out how to do it with obedience. I think my brain has gone on strike Looking forward to it (but not the 3 hr trip down though).
  10. Sorry, I'm bad I did a agility clinic late last year with Elisha Calhoun and she was great. I think one of the biggest thing in a good trainer is how they communicate with their students and how personable they are.
  11. Do any of them have their own website where I could find contact details? I googled and it brings up where they are conducting seminars but not their own sites or details. Or can someone pm me their details if they have them. I did Gina's workshop in Geelong with the crazy black dog sometimes known as Kira and she was great!
  12. Sorry to hijack your thread I belong to Shepparton Obedience Dog Club and we would like to get a guest up from Melbourne (or down from Southern NSW) to conduct an obedience seminar - covering heeling, open work, UD, UDX work. Can anyone suggest someone who'd be willing to come to the country and has great communication skills ?!?!
  13. Sorry to go OT too but I'm with you Kelpiechick - I always thought twlight was when the sun was going down and the light was fadeing, not when sun's still out on full force I've entered the Feb trial but may have to beg for a handler for Kiz - the dog's actually going good but my ankle has not got the "almost trial season memo" and is swollen like a balloon - bloody uselss ligaments I'm like LP, did some conformation shows with the Aussie's in the "off season" from Oct-Jan so that gave me a little doggy hit! Congratulations Ness on the fantastic start to your trialling year - what a way to start
  14. at work so can't get to the tv however a loving family member who knows I'm dog crazy brought me a book by her for Christmas. It is utter crap, full of her yanking her own crank and a waste of $36. Just full of her retelling story's about client's and their dogs i.e. "spotty was aggressive and his owner at wits end but once they came to me all problems solved".
  15. I've been using it since November on my yellow xbred who has a sensative stomach and low and behold since switching she now has solid (you know). I had tried very very expensive food for her and her condition and still had issues. However my cats will not touch the cat version, typical fussy beast
  16. Merry Christmas to you Tony. Although I'm still fairly new on here I've enjoyed reading your posts. Merry Christmas to everyone else on DOL - me and my tribe are off to the in-laws farm for Christmas break so we'll be offline for a bit - why sit in front of a pc when there's walks to be had, poo to roll in and bunnies to chase!
  17. OK, another goal, to join Kirra in this endeavour - I can get around well enough for this one if nothing else LOL Yay Helen, hopefully we'll get a chance to pair up again and next time I'll try to control the black dog better so she doesn't waste time doing the tunnel the wrong way 3 times! Hope the knee's healing.
  18. I know what I'm about to say isn't so much obedience/agility, etc but just had to share. Our family has had Blush (Aussie) for about 14mths and when she came to us she didn't play. 5mths later we had her playing tug but that was it (she loves a good wrestle but I'm a sooky la la and get hurt to easy ) Break though last night - went out to move the greywater hose (Denny & Kiz inside, Blush outside cause she was having natural gas emmissions) and stubbed my toe on a dog toy (one of those balls with the blobs on em that bounce every which way). I picked it up and threw it in a tanty and Blush chased it, looking very goofy, and picked it and brought it back to me!!!!!!!!! I did this for about another 5 minutes and it was great, she fetched every time - I'm so proud. Must also mention that my husband thought I was mad when I made him come out and watch
  19. I only recently discovered this topic - must have been under a rock! Where do you guys buy these books? I have been busy googling and found Culture Clash and CIG Positive Dog Training and Morgan's book. My family's getting them for Christmas for me, definately beats getting yet another bloody serving platter

Denny: Still waiting for his first time  2008 Aims: Kira: CDX, TDX, SDPX, JDX, AD, GD, SD Narmi: To be healthy and well - anything else is a bonus - oh and to stop digging bloody mineshafts in my lawn Blush: JD, AD, TD Denny: CDX, JD, AD
  21. I can't wait to meet Denny - I don't think I've seen him yet - just Blush and Kiz! He can compete against Kinta - also coming out to play with the big kids next year  Yay!!! How's Kinta coming along? I'm finding training Denny really different cause he's such a sooky la la A big change from in ya face Kiz and Blush the fairy! He tries so hard at everything and I feel just awful when he does an oops. We did a inter club trial earlier (I just entered him for fun) and he did really well, just one wonky drop on heel pattern and that was it!
  22. Congratulations to all for their weekend efforts and passes! Well done LP Trialling in the heat is not easy, on dog or human! I was being soft and decided not to enter Croydon cause I thought it would be hot - I'm a big baby in the heat and become very cranky and I had a wedding on Sat night and Obedeince Chriisy party Sunday night! You guys will beat me and Kiz out of Open! Although I must warn all to look out when Denny hits the ring next year - he's such a super trooper.
