Liberal Senator Helen Kroger Injured In Dog Attack
Silvawilow replied to The Spotted Devil's topic in In The News
You can't be serious? All dogs owners have the same responsibility regardless of the size of their dogs. Also the article clearly states that the intruder dog came "under the fence". Poor woman, hope her body and mind heal quickly, what a terrible ordeal to go through. Hopefully if the neighbour decides to get another dog they'll keep it contained. -

We're coming over from Vic - missed the Twit man and can't wait to see him again! And it will be good to catch up with Lyndsay again 3 more sleeps!!!! -
Absolutly no way. My dogs sleep outside anyway, where they have access to cool water, dog pond, green grass and the 2 giant holes they've dug in the lawn!

A little bit confused by your opening statement regarding a GSD should have "endurance" but then you go on to say in follwoing paragraph that dbl handling can be used for dog "getting tired". If a dog has endurance then a dozen laps round a ring should make it tired???? Also if it's getting tired does that then mean that it doesn't conform because it doesn't have "endurance", so therefore, if there was no double handling to pep up a tiring dog then those of lesser quality will be seen quicker? I don't mind double handling in the Specality Ring - it's amusing to watch for a couple of minutes of so! Sorry that you are confused. You might need to see a specialty show to know what I mean. Do I detect a hint of sarcasam? I have watched a GSD spec, that's why I said it's amusing to watch - have also watched them train for it. You contradicted yourself saying that the breed needs enducance and then go on to say about dbl handling for tired dogs - I was wondering how a dog that's tired after a few laps exhibits endurance :D Thanks Pockets for the explanation regarding it being used for bored or unfocused dog eta: I'd love to see our Specality have a few more laps included (I'd probably die, dogs'd be ok, LOL) but without the dbl handling.

Same with our council (City of Greater Shepparton) - you had to have the 3rd dog before applying for the permit - our council says you need to have 100sqm of clear land for each dog. We had to have it signed by all adjoining neighbours. Nobody ever came out to inspect the ppty which was a little dissapointing. With our council if you're zoned Farming or your ppty is over 8 hectares then you don't require a permit. Strathbogie Council seems pretty reasonable - if you're zoned Rural or Farming you can have 5 dogs before you need a permit.

That's an "it's just up the road" sort of show :p :D Same here. Anything 2hrs or under we call a local show. If it's a double or triple we'll travel to Adelaide or ACT but at this stage that's about it. Too scared to do Sydney cause I'm a bit of a stress head in traffic

We got our numbers back on Friday.

Where To Stay For Cohuna Weekend?
Silvawilow replied to ShellyBeggs's topic in General Dog Discussion
If they have one, try calling the local Visitor Info Centre - they usually have a list of pet friendly accommodation. Otherwise try takeabreak.com.au and in your search select the 'pet friendly' option - that site is a lifesaver! We got accommodation for Cup w'end one week before the event. -
Yep, I agree that it should also be limited for the "Breed" point score as well as the "All Breeds".

Purebred Is Best But What About Other Pets?
Silvawilow replied to Wilderblu's topic in General Dog Discussion
Currently have at present: * 2 pedigree dogs * 1 xbred dog (our very first dog) * 2 moggies (from the pound) In the past our cats generally have been moggies from rescue. I did have one purebred (she stayed @ my parents when I moved out) and she ended up with cataracts at 4 and lost one eye and it was too much for her when she lost the other eye I've had 4 horses in the past: * 2 Registered TB's * 1 Registered Arabian * 1 large pony I felt sorry for at a sale LOL, and when I was a teenager I had purebred show chickens -
I think Grp 5 BIG was Puli & RUBIG was Beardie

Agree 100% Also makes it harder for us who live in the middle of nowhere - if we wanted a show where there's those kind of number we'd have to travel minimum 6hr round trip. Similar lines to what Sway's saying; I'd like to see the results come from your best 4 shows for the month - again to make it fairer on those in places where there just isn't the amount of shows as those in the capital cities.
-
I like it when they're in order of when received. I don't think it's fair to go in exhibitor name order because the same people will always be at the front/end of the line.

My understanding is that you can breed carrier to clear so long as it's part of a recognised "breeding program". That's where I get confused, is it your breeding program or does the vca/breed club have to endorse the breeding of carrier to clear in your breed? Not to the extent that registered breeders are. BYB/Puppy farms, generally, do not DNA test (are there even test for oodles?) so for them to be caught out it'll take one of their puppy buyers to get a puppy with a HD to report them to DPI/RSPCA. Whereas a lot of registered breeders DNA test so are easier targets.
