Clastic, your dogs looks so cute in their raincoats, and so happy! If I put Shandy's lovely red spotty raincoat on her, she get this really pathetic, downtrodden corgi look. Kyliegirl, excellant advice going on here. You've achieved a lot with Echo, and he's a lovely, well adjusted pup. I think Dobes, like a lot of large breeds, are a fairly slow maturing breed, aren't they? So just keep holding on to Wizzle and KumaAkita's advice - he will get to where you want him to be in the end, and in the meantime, you really are doing pretty well!

I think clicker training this might help - Elbie is smart enough to pick up subtle cues. Start just moving to the side, and click when he's looking ahead. Gradually move further and further around him, clicking each time he looks straight ahead and hold the position. We can have a bit of a play with it this weekend, if you like.

Looking forward to it! I think a little table sign is a good idea - otherwise we'll all be peering at each others clothes, looking for dog hair!

Congrats Jedi and Ava! I saw Ava and Wuffles effort today (and cheered them on!) and it was a lovely run, especially for a first trial!

Kobi is gorgeous! I still have a real soft spot for vizslas, after falling desperately n love with one called 'Red' when I was a teenager. He was the dog that originally inspired me with the idea that I might like to get into dog sports as well, after watching him do obedience and agility. He belonged to the breeder who bred my younger Ridgeback bitch, and he was, quite simply, the smartest dog I'd ever come across!

My groomer has an entire, dog shape matt that she took off in one piece from a matted dog pinned up on the wall of her shop.

KTB - I definitely know how far you guys have come with Elbie, and I think you've done an amazing job! You have harnessed his energy so well already, I'm looking forward to seeing how he goes as he matures. He's a dog a lot of people would have struggled with, and he's become such a fun dog to have around All of your puppy stories are making me cringe - this is why I got an adult ex show dog, but I think, unfortunately, my next dog will need to be a pup, to get what I want, and to get to do what I want from the start - and you guys are making me very nervous! Shandy has been nearly perfect to live with - she never bothered the cats, barely digs, usually only chews her own stuff, etc, etc. While I grew up with plenty of pups - my family bred Rhodesian Ridgebacks - the idea of having a puppy again is definitely making me nervous! Wuffles has given some great heeling advice there - and Ava's heeling is a lovely example of how well these can work. I would just add - lots of those heeling games, with the emphasis of finding heel, turning, and heeling as you start off. Keep it short, and fun, and make sure that your dog wants to play the game! I'll PM KTB for facebook - I use an alias, but its pretty similar to my DOL name, so it should be obvious!

Sometimes I make up a kind of treat biscuit out of things like this - smoosh it all together, add an egg, and some rice flour, and bake it, until its a manageable texture! Glad it's working well for you though! The big differences physically are that the Cardi's are bigger, smoother coated, and have larger, more triangular shaped ears. They never had their tails ocked either - so they used to be described as the corgis with a tail. The Cardis are a lot more laid back in temperament, which is a large part of what appealed to me. Having always owned big dogs, I really like their temperaments. They are a bit more standoffish to strangers too, but I don't have a problem with that. And something which sounds odd, but is actually true, is that the Cardis are often described as having a sense of humour! WUFFLES; I think you should give it a go - you guys are looking great, and you may as well take advantage of familiar ground. You do need to register Ava under your number - but you can always go into DOGSACT office to do that immediately. Actually, you might want to check - providing you both have a number, you may be able to enter anyway? I'll bring some forms, and we'll have a chat on Sunday about it - we'll be happy to get you started!

I'm glad you all enjoyed the corgi puppy video. For those who've never seen the variety of colours - its one of the big diffences between Cardigan and Pembroke Corgi breeds, that the Cardi's come in such a wider range of colours. Shandy is quite a red brindle, and my next Cardi will hopefully be a blue merle! If you're interested in the colours, here's a link that shows some of the colour variations in Cardis; Colours Wuffles, that looks gorgeous! Both the gorgeous colours (and you!) at your wedding, and the lovely beach shots. We're going down the coast for a long weekend in a few weeks, staying in a dog friendly house at Malua Bay. It will be Ms Shandy's first experience of real surf - considering that she didn't even like the wavelets in the harbour at my parents, I don't think she'll like it much! Also, are you planning to enter the BDOC trial at the end of the month? If you are, don't forget to get an entry in this week - I can give you some official forms, if you need them? KTB, you'll have to tell me some more about your session with Steve. We're looking at organising him to do a weekend workshop down here, or a couple of us might go down for his mid year workshop. Just quickly popping to share a video with you; its a litter of 7 week old Cardigan Corgi puppies being tested for herding instinct with ducks. I thought KTB, and Clastic and Wuffles and any others who've done some herding would be interested in how young they can display behaviours. Plus, A. The little girl who's doing so well in this video actually reminds me of Ava - the white mismark head looks kinda similar

Some great, descriptive collective nouns here! Corgis in general are often referred to as Corgwyn (from Welsh) which I really like, but a FRAP of corgis is often used to describe a group (Frantic Random Acts of Play is a common definition of FRAP - corgi zoomies!)

Way to go Jedi! Our first attempt in the Novice ring wasn't so exciting - too much lagging saw us fail our heeling pattern, but the rest of her exercises were almost perfect, and we managed a 3rd place. I'd rather the Q, but a placing is at least a consolation.

hee hee, Evil Koala is funny! Except you wouldn't feed Hills Science, you'd use something truly evil, like supermarket dog food! Wufffles, I always thought that there was probably some sort of large hound in Satch - something about the rangieness of his build says wolfhound or deerhound to me. KA, sorry you had a bad day on Thursday - you really should come and join KTB and Clastic in my SUnday class - at least you know I think Kuma is a gorgeous big boofa! If you want a hand to run through some things, give me a yell, I'm more than happy to do some run throughs with you guys. In fact, after doing the Vicki Austin Instructor workshop today, I have some really interesting interesting ideas to try out! Wizzle, I love the story about the postman, thats so cute! Its always nice when others appreciate the sheer wonderfulness of our dogs. I took Shandy to a card party last night (we play 500 in our lunch breaks at work, and sometimes it spills over). I had checked with the host, who knew she was good, and had no problems, but she was such a hit - everyone couldn't get over how well behaved, and easy going she was!

I got Shandy when she was about 18 months old, as an ex show dog. She'd had very little training, but had shown an aptitude for training, which is what I wanted. She moved in so easily -never bothered the cats, only ever had one toilet mistake inside, and never chewed anything that wasn't left outside with her uring the day. She took to obedience training like a duck to water, and had her first obedience title less than 2 years after she came to us. Oh and her recall is excellent, despite the fact that she'd never heard of it before she came to us! My family have adopted ex show dogs for years though - after we gave up breeding ourselves, we had couple of dogs who were unhappy in a kennel situation from friends who still bred, and my parents 2 boxers are both ex show dogs as well - one was too small for the standard, and one too big, so they make a funny pair. All in all, she's been an absolute joy to own, and as a full time worker, I'd definitely have an adult dog again over a puppy!

lol, I love seeing the contrast between Elbie and Hoover! At one, and considering his breed mix, Elbie may still fill out a little bit through the chest, but I'd say Hoover will outweigh him by a good bit. I'm happy to demo the trick. If I can nag OH after DWD class tomorrow night, I'll see if I can get a short video. The clickers we've been using are these - see the little green elastic loop?
