Kennel Cough Passed On To Vaccinated Dogs
Bow Wow replied to Mushaka's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I think Bindi has kennel cough it sounds like she is trying to vomit, but nothing comes out. She is fine withing herself, eating, running around, just sometimes she makes this cough kind of sound. Bindi is vaccinated, but what I find strange is she has not been anywhere for a while, ( as my back is bad, can not take her for her walks) probably a few weeks. She is an inside dog. Only going out to go to the toilet. How would she catch this???? -
Kaz, I very rarely come into this section, because it breaks my heart at the pain people are going through at the loss of their pet. While reading your story about Jess, I could picture her. I could see her on the ground playing with your other dogs. My heart is in my throat, as I type this. I am truly sorry for your loss.

May I ask what the back ground of Mishka is? Why does he have to have an amputation done?

I have found that frontline does not work anymore. Tried flea spray, but with little success. Have even resorted to using a flea collar. Will buy some Advantage and see if it helps.

Hypothetical Question In Regards To Trialling.
Bow Wow replied to Bow Wow's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
JulesP, horrible I know, but once when Bindi broke from a recall, she ran around going to all the dogs, wagging her bum and grovelling on the ground, but I just Froze. I could not move. Luckily for me the other dogs, were not aggressive and the instructor grabbed her for me. I felt really bad. :p Now I am anal in reading her. I can tell if she looks like breaking and remand her with a " ARGH" watching me so I get her focus. I stand away from other people and thier dogs. I honestly dont know what I would do if she were in a fight. I hope the responsible dog owner in me would jump in, but I fear that I will freeze again. -
Hypothetical Question In Regards To Trialling.
Bow Wow replied to Bow Wow's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Cosmolo, you have raised a good point. One that completely baffles me. When a dog breaks, I think that the owner or stewards, should be able to remove that dog, before it invades another dogs space. Take away the factor that could cause a dog fight. -
Hypothetical Question In Regards To Trialling.
Bow Wow replied to Bow Wow's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I think that for me and bindi, I can not risk it. I would hate if, say a little dog was the one that got up and wandered over to Bindi. I would never forgive myself. I have been thinking alot tonight, and just hearing your stories and the ones I hear at obedience, about dogs breaking and fights breaking out. I have come to the conclusion that we will just stick to obedience, and the mock trials, where Bindi knows the dogs. ;) How I envy those with strong nerves, to be able to trialling. I really take my hat of to you. It is not for the faint hearted. All that really matters is that I know Bindi can do everything that she is suppose to in her grade at obedience. ;) That, and she Really loves obedience. :p -
Hypothetical question. Dogs in sit stay or down stay group in trial. One dog comes up to your dog and sniffs, your dog is a bit dog aggressive and does not like his/her personal space invaded and a fight breaks out. What are the consequences?? This has not happened. But is my worst nightmare and the reason I can not let myself go into trialling. Bindi is a staffy x, she is 3 years old, was heavily socialised as a pup and has done obedience since she was 18 weeks. At around the age of 18 months, my friendly girl, started to snap at ' some ' dogs. She has never been in a fight. Has been bitten on the nose by a dally when she was younger. My fear is if she ever bit a dog she would get put down. :D She is my baby and this thought terrifies me. Bindi is very clever. The instructors are always telling me to trial her. But my fear stops me from doing so. She has been in two mock trials. Coming 2nd with a score of 96 in her first. Then today she came 1st with 85. Opinions greatly appreciated.

My staffy bindi had a skin allergy a few months back, lost the hair around her right eye. I used cortizone cream from the vet, but it seemed to make it worse, so I purchased a honey based cream from the chemist for dermititis, that seemed to sooth it. But cut out everything but her dry food and that seemed to help. Its all cleared up now. Did a lot of research and it is quite common in staffies, especially young ones, though the majority usually grow out of it. I hope so. But will keep her on her dry food, with a couple of chicken necks and meaty bones a couple of times a week. Hope your puppy grows out of it.

Has Anyone Here Ever Lost A Dog To Chocolate?
Bow Wow replied to a topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Little Pixie, I used to always feed my dogs chocolate when I was a teenager. Had no problems. I use to feed my chi who I have now chocolate for years and did not link him getting off colour with me feeding him chocolate for a long time. Until I rang a vet and said that my chi gets sick and off colour quite often. He asked if I was feeding him chocolate and I said yes all the time. Once that stopped my chi never got sick again. I didnt know until probably 5 years ago. That chocolate was poisonous to dogs. God the amount of chocolate I fed that poor dog. -

What Are The Benefit's Of Crates
Bow Wow replied to keels's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Oops.. pressed the enter key I havent a bad word about crate training dogs. They are the best. They make it easier to toilet train the pup. Making sure you leave it as late as possible to take them to the toilet before going to bed, and if you get up through the night, take them to the toilet again. Most pups will not soil their beds. By keeping a pup in its crate of a night time, it stops the pup from destroying the house hold. :D Dont keep the pup locked up inthe crate all day though, only when you cannot supervise him. In the end the pup will go into the crate on its own accord, because thats where it feels safe. I have a blanket over mine to make it seem more secluded for her. I did have to up size the crate to a large one now that she is fully grown. :D It will take out alot of the stress that is involved in raising puppies. Good luck -
