Hi, Its really about personal choise more than anything else. I only use single sided thinners in the salon and 5.5's because thats what im used to I guess. Have a try and go with what feels comfortable. The Wahls are good, I dont have a problem with them ever, and I use mine constantly, you would get alot more out of them than I do and I only have to sharpen them every few months Another nice scissor are Jaguars but you are jumping up again in price.

Forgot to say if I had the extra $$ Id buy a Beacon, Groomers sell them, the are pretty $h!t hot and make barely any noise, maybe worth a look if you are willing to pay a little for quality.??

Ive tested an Oldfield but I didnt think it was that great. Ive have used a Turbo Dryer(Melb Dog Centre) too much maintainance abd breakdowns. I love my Liberty, had no probs in over 3 years!!

Staffords do drop alot of coat anyway, if its the EPO Shampoo from Groomers your getting it will help tons. I use the EPO food suppliment as well with my boy and we haven't had any more skin issues. I wouldn't be concearned with the hair loss unless its obvious patches or anything, premium food and regular bathing routine in Epo shampoo will make all the difference. I assume thats Ally in your Avitar, I love B&T Staffords, even though not an acceptable color there is something about them that I really like, she's cute, a little podggy sorry, she's gorgeous anyway!

I have one almost identical, except my dad made it. And it only cost around $300. I just bought a motor bike stand, which is all that is too, cut off the top plates and put a top on it, in the size I wanted!!. They are great for large dogs. Maybe hunt around your area for a motorbike stand and go from there, much cheaper than buying one already made.

What To Use To Soothe Sore Fly Bitten Ears?
Doggrooma replied to SarasMum's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Try Septicide (it a cream) its really good or even the cheapo Troy brand Fly Repella is quite ok, its probably cheaper at a stock feed outlet. Horse shops will have it or pet shops should but it will be dearer. -
Another Hydrobath Question ....
Doggrooma replied to Crits'N'Bits's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Depending on the product its better to wash twice a week. Its not too much!! I use Groomers Evening Primrose Oil Shampoo (twice a week if you can) as the directions say. I also have my boy on the EPO Food Suppliment (ive tried all sorts of suppliments this is far superior) as well, these combined WILL fix the problem, once under control you can back off on the baths a little, it may be the time of year causing it, for me it has been worse over summer. Oh dont run it thru your Hydrbath use it the ol' fashoned way, its more effective. -
Blade And Scissor Sharpening
Doggrooma replied to charlie mouse's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I'd go with a highly recommended sharpener if it were me. Not done correctly will cause damage. Not to mention the money and time wasted. Express post you will only be without them 2-3 days if your organised. -

I use Clipper World too, excellent to deal with, fast and reliable. -
That pic shows a good cat clip. I dont go down the legs. I always clip their nails first, then muzzle them with a cat muzzle unless it one of my excellently behaved regulars. Because the cat muzzle covers their whole face they tend to be less agro. But when a kitty's had enough, a kitty's had ENOUGH!! I try to whip through it as fast as I can, an extra set of hands for manouvering and stretching them out can sometimes help too. My hubby loves when I ask to just come hold this cat for a minute :D

Survey: How Long Does A Bag Of Dog Food Last You?
Doggrooma replied to jaegertheweim's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
UMMM..... Not long enough!!! I wish I had a bag of Eagle Pack that never ran out :D -
Some dogs just dont like having their nails cut. You wont be hurting him, its bad behavior. Its good you started early even though he has been a handful. Try elevating him on a table. They are often much better. Dont fuss over him, straight in pick up his foot and start. When he mucks around dont talk to him, ignore him and persist. Dont let go until he is still and calm. When he is letting you cut the nails without fuss then tell him how good he is and love him. Make sure you dont reward him for scared, bad behavior. You dont need to be rough but a firm confidence will help. You get dogs in the salon that are screaming before you even cut the nail. He will improve with time.

8mth Puppy Losing Spots Of Hair
Doggrooma replied to chloebear's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Do you have foxes around?? They can pick up Sarcoptic mange from where the foxes have been. Seeing your out of town it may be the culprit. Two of my mums Griffons got this just from being where they had been on her property. Once again its detected by skin scaping. Try changing your line on treatment to Revolution it treats mange as well as fleas ear mites and heartworm. It wouldnt hurt to get a scraping done though -
I love my Liberty Grooming Frame, Fully adjustable, will restrain anything! have a look at them well woth it. I paid around $100 i think about 4 years ago.

Dog Clippers With Vacuum Hose
Doggrooma replied to Christina's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Groomers Friend has a Clipper Vac System, comes with a nice price tag too $1700. I couldnt justfy paying that much for something I dont really need. There are a set of Laube Clippers that have this attachment, if you like that style of clippers. -
If I was in your situation I would be taking her firstly to a chiro to rule out muscle/lig problems, if ruled out then have her x-rayed.
-
My Goldie does that to, no irritation in sight and she has done it with all the line on treatments ive used. I wouldnt be concearned greatly unless you can see the skin is clearly irritated.

Getting Grass Seeds Out Of Long Fur
Doggrooma replied to CP*'s topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
The easiest way is a force dryer, are you near a DIY Hydrobath place?? It will blast them right out and you will be able to see much easier into the coat. -
Hi emmark, Try Motor bike tyres. Do you have somewhere to swim her that could really help?

Anyone Ever Bathed A Cat In A Hydrobath?
Doggrooma replied to 4 Paws's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
There were a couple of cats I used to Hydrobath and blowdry, a ragdoll and just a DLH. These were the most laid back cats ever, Garfield comes to mind Generally I didnt unless I knew the cat well. After Being clipped off a gentle dunk and scrub in the hydrbath tank didnt upset them to much. I find it easier to do a hands on approach as opposed to crate washing. They seen to stay more settled, but then you do get the odd nut job. Now I get out of grooming cats because my allergies make it impossible, but im not complaining -
Sticks also come in handy with those crazy bombers of the skies!! We have a few maggies around here I swear are the sporn of satin, seriously.

New Pup Has One Blue Eye.. Possibly Go Blind?
Doggrooma replied to 4ngi3's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Just looks like a Bi-eye to me, though the photos arent to clear. If your worried get them to take the pup in for another check, or to an eye specialist. Ihave a few Bi-eyes come into the salon. Even a couple of little Malt x's, apart from looking kinda freaky  Ive never heard any bad health issues. -
Loz, You need some help by a professional or at least someone in the breed. If this behavior continues it WILL escalate, are you planning to desex him?? Having such a powerful breed it is your responsibility to do everything in your means to get this dog in control. It may not be an easy fix and I bet there are other behavior issues as well although you may not see them yourself. I myself are going through changes with my Stafford. He is reaching sexual maturity now and he too is showing a few dominant behaviors, a far cry from what you are going through but still things I wont allow, with quick intervention and trying to avoid situations that have caused trouble in the past. Have almost cut out any undersirable behavior. A professional will come in and help you to forsee potential problems that at this stage maybe you cant? And show you a safer way of going about everyday things that shouldnt be causing grief. Good Luck!!
