  1. Thanks for your help. I have passed it all on to my brother. George starts his treatment today so fingers crossed for him.
  2. I havent put this in the sick rottie post as I was hoping to attract the attention of all users. My brothers rescue rottie has just been diagnosed with Lymphoma. He starts treatment tomorrow. So far the vet says its aggressive but has been caught early. He took George to our usual vet in Sydney and was referred right away to the uni. They have been fantastic so far and so quick to start treatment. Is there anything I can suggest to my brother as far as diet and alternative treatments that may assist with the chemo and conventional vet treatment? George is about 5 as a rough guess. Its always hard with the rescue dogs. Does anyone have any suggestions about diet? Currently he is on a mix of dry food, raw meat and veges with raw bones as well. He is a bit of a hoover so will eat pretty much anything.
  3. Glad the information helped out. I got to go through the factory for work reasons so I thought I would pass the info on to those who use it as well. It was definately interesting to see what goes in it. Im also out in the country and have a LOT of trouble getting bulk dry food that not working dog food. We have 5 dogs at the moment so getting it in bulk is important. Coprice is about the only thing we can get thats not working dog. Having seen that Woofbix is the same thing I gave the new chicken one a go and the dogs love it.
  4. I dont want to start a debate about whats good and bad for animals and the goods and evils of dry food but I know there are a few people on here who do use coprice products and I thought I would share some information I found out the other day..... Coprice also make Woofbix (the Big W brand of dog food) and Coles "You'll love Coles Brand" dog food. The only difference between Coprice brand and Woofbix is that no rice product is used in Woofbix. Its based on other grains I just thought this might help some people make choices. Cheers Jo
  5. Thanks for the infomation. The dogs are loving the pig bones. The bones are all really meaty and little to no fat and they think its great. So thank you everyone for the suggestions. I had a heap (aboout 4 shopping bags full) so I have frozen them and will interchange them with all the normal bones and food.
  6. My parents have a dog wash guy in the Sutherland Shire that only charges around $30 a dog for us and ours are all very large so its great. He comes to our house and does it all. I dont know about grooming though, sorry. Ours are all short coat dogs. He does the blow dry as well. Also clips nails as required. I know he started out a little more expensive but mum uses him all the time for hers. Its easier for us to get someone to come and wash ours as there is 3 at our house and the smallest is 35kg. Plus one of my dogs is terrified of the garden hose but doesnt mind the hose the dog wash guy uses. This guy also gives us a discount if all the families dogs are there. If all the kids are visiting grandma and grandpa then there can be 6 dogs. (its like a production line and all the neighbours thinks its funny)They are all large except one and he will usually only charge around $120 for all the dogs. Off topic, he uses a great smelling wash and spray that leaves them smelling like coconut and pina colada. I love it but I dont think my brother likes his rottie smelling like a cocktail
  7. Thanks everyone for your advice and info. I was asking as its not something I would usually come across. Its only as its salami season that everyone is busy trying to find ways to get rid of pork bones. Usually when you got to the butcher its beef bones. Den, I agree about the rotting thing. My dogs love it, especially if they can find a tasty maggot or two. But I was only concerned as pork tends to carry a lot of different sorts of bacterias. Well it might not anymore but remember when we were all told to cook the pork till it was very well done? Like canNrott says, we tend to look after our dogs a lot better than people did even 20 years ago. I am very fond of my dogs and try to feed them the best things I can for a longer and healthier life. So thank you everyone.
  8. Thank you for that..... Although I was concerned aboout the disease being found in roo meat etc in the wild. Whilst I dont do it myself (I live in town). A lot of people on farms etc will shoot a roo, butcher it themselves, and feed it to the dogs. I wonder if they are at risk of that disease as well????
  9. I was wondering..... Its salami season down here and everyone is busy making homemade salami. I have been given a heap of pork bones by a frired. They are all large sizes and have a fair bit of meat left on them. Has anyone had any bad experiences feeding dogs pork meat/bones? It has all been properly butchered etc It seems like a stupid question but I cant recall every hearing anyone mention pork bones/meat in a dogs diet...........
