  1. As far as I can see there's no question. Get two large stable crates, separate the dogs in a crate in separate rooms during the day and do intensive work with each dog individually. Walk them separately, train them separately and only have them together, supervised, until they are both happy and quiet. If they bark when they see each other then split them up and if need be go through some quick obedience. If the council is involved because your neighbours are upset, there's no way I'd be leaving the dogs outside when away from the house. Good luck!
  2. As far as I'm aware, any dog can compete in a class for as long as you like providing a pass at a higher level has not yet been achieved. The 3 highest scores are then used when applying for your title. I'm not sure what veterans or vintage is? We're a slow bunch down here
  3. Hiya, As I'm training for this at the moment not sure how helpful but.... Could she be confusing the 'sit' command with the recall? What is your normal signal for a straight recall? What signal have you been using for the drop on recall training? Are they all too similar? If so what else could you use? I've needed to really mix up the COP work to stop Acteon anticipating eg. leaving him in a sit then going through drop, sit or leaving him in stand then getting COP and also leaving in down the doing COP. It's working well and giving him more of a chance to differentiate between SFE and DOR. As I said I'm learning this too so I'm interested to hear other experienced opinions. Good luck and please keep the updates coming because I'm finding it all very helpful
  4. Well done agility/jumping kids! Sounds like a very successful weekend!
  5. Gosh, watching this makes me realise how much I miss agility. I haven't done any since my old Kelpie X was about 5 (9yrs ago :D ) The way I am most of the time it's my rear end that needs awareness! :D I have to confess I haven't seen this before, I'm going to give it a go.
  6. thanks Tiggy. I got her to move her bum by getting her to learn about REA first. This is the first time I've taught heeling like this and I like it! This is what I struggle most with my older two, so the bum moving was imperative So far it seems to have worked Yes - Kitty thinks if there is food, I will be there Yes I'm interested too, could you explain REA please I'd like to try it out.....as soon as I know what you're on about! :D
  7. How exciting, a new baby! Crate training has so many uses, it gives you peace of mind and gives the dog a special place. It's also a great thing to learn for if you start showing or trialling as having a dog that is very comfortable in a crate is a great asset. I think your set up and arrangement sounds good. I expect you'll have a very happy and well adjusted dog. Good luck!
  8. Well done! Now the excitement begins :D
  9. Has my OH been talking to you? I'm always in trouble for losing my keys, my phone, my handbag, my.....................
  10. Well at least he found a good use for it Bless him. Don't you just love the senior citz.
  11. Thanks heaps guys! I thought it could have some advantages but thought a second opinion would be well worth it. I'll carry on with it then. Cheers
  12. [quote name='daisygirl' date='21st Jan 2010 - 08:39 PM' post='4274448' Secret is to have a dog the same colour as your floorboards and then you dont notice the loose fur! Oh yeah.....my thoughts exactly
  13. Roxy Intro to heel- keeping it short (30sec at a time) today on two of the sits (out of 5), I asked her to drop. This was missed on the first try so that was ignored, heeled forward a few steps, and repeated which she understood. Will be combining sits, stands and drop with short heeling soon I hope. Recall-doing very well and is rehearsed every time we are outside for toilet. So far she is very fast and prompt to sit Acteon Drop on recall- only in basic stages so far and using the method of when he's running free towards me I ask him to 'drop'. I have done one formal recall which worked well. Retrieve dumbbell-very, very eager all good except he likes to give a bit of mouthing before handing the dumbbell over. Out of sight stays-good, progressing to behind solid objects.
  14. Two GSD and an elderly Kelpie X We're on a bit under 800m2 which is a rather long block split into 3 low tiers due to a gradual slope. The dogs don't really do much out there, they will chase each other around a bit if I'm doing some gardening but they are inside dogs and only out when we are with them. Most of their exercise is done on walks, runs at park, training and bike rides along the beach.
  15. Hi guys, Hopefully some of you can give me some solid advice on this: My new girl has been home for nearly a week now and she seems to have an increasing interest in bringing me objects. on the first day she picked up a cleaning cloth I had been using, sought me out and gave it to me when I offered my hand using the command 'give', told her she was a good girl then went about my business. Later that day it was a soft toy, not chewed, just happily presented to me. She tends to have a preference to articles of mine or those I've recently handled such as the Enjo, socks and today...my garden boot! Now I'm more than happy for her to bring me articles and I've given her a toy that we have started 'fetch' work on (she's never been taught to retrieve) but am I doing the right thing? Nothing's chewed up and I think it could have advantages for tracking or scent training later on. Any thoughts on this?
  16. It is an extremely anxious time waiting in line for a pup. Waiting for a planned mating to occur, waiting to see if the bitch has conceived, waiting to see how many pups are born and what sex they are, and hoping all those months of nail biting actually result in the new bundle of joy. That new baby who already has a name, a shiny new collar, a great big fluffy bed....... I can understand why you would have all these questions, some have probably already been answered in some thread somewhere here. Sit tight, it wont be long
  17. Well done! Congratulations!!! OK, here's my brag (a bit early but still). I got my new girl home a few days ago and I was keeping things reasonably relaxed for the first day or so. I started a very basic recall on day one and introduced the sit in front. Now I'm not taking all the credit here, she does come from a long established kennel with very experienced owners so she had been taught general manners, loose lead walking (but not a formal 'heel') , stand(for show) and a very hit and miss sit. Well yesterday was day 4 so I decided to really reinforce things a bit more... Learning short distance recall with sit in front. Learning 'heel' she loves it! Learning to 'place'. Like I said, early days but I'm so happy with how much she really wants to work. So happy Edited to fix images
  18. Yep, this is pretty much how I've started. Early days on this one. I like this a lot I was doing something similar inside by going to the kitchen but I think I'll start this outside. COP- easy take it slow, get the dog really solid close up then gradually increase your distance. That's how I've been doing it anyway.
  19. Thank you, I must say I am rather keen to follow their progress See you guys at the next speciality?
