  3. Hi Everyone, Got home from work last night and was giving Charlie some cuddles, where I noticed a little patch of fur was gone from his right ear. There is no redness or inflamation. No whereelse is scuffed or marked......... It is a little patch, half a centremeter wide and maybe 0.75 cm in length. When i say the fur is gone, i mean it is GONE. No hairs in bare patch at all. any ideas? He appears to be in good health otherwise........ i feel concerned. he wasnt home alone at all yesterday, my husband was home with him all day, then we crossed over as i came home and he went out. Thanks, jacqui
  4. Thanks All, Got Charlie desexed on Thursday, cos just over $300 including pain relief antibiotics etc. At least its done now, poor little guy is running around in his ecollar and is a little constipated, but the wound is clean and he is home safe and sound. Just got him done at the local greencross vets. Id rather pay and know its done and he is safe and happy than worry about price at the end of the day. Cheers, Jacqui
  5. Hi team, I might be going crazy but doesnt the RSPCA have a desexing program in QLD? IF they do,what is it? I kinda thought they did it for a lesser price and the proceeds went to rspca - have i imagined this? I called them today and the person that i spoke to knew nothing about it. She is taking my no. and will call me back......but i thought i'd ask - am i losing my mind!!?? Cheers Jacqui

  7. Can anyone point me in the right direction of a dog trainer in Western Suburbs of brisbane that will come to us? Our previous trainer fell through...... Charlies nipping is getting outta control - but he only does it in bed Thanks Everyone, Jacqui
  8. Thank you so much for the link to the article. I have found that very very informative - to the point thats its printed out and on my fridge for easy access - its definitly given me some ideas to assist in developing myself as a responsible owner and impletmenting training techniques. I do train with Charlie. Up until now there has been no structure with it however. Now, I am setting aside 10 - 20 mins twice a day (first thing in the morning, and as soon as I come home from work). There is also the ongoing training we do when we are out for our walk that are standards - sitting before we cross, sitting on the other side etc. I have gone back to the beginning with toilet training and he is getting it again, I'll just keep it up. I am open to suggestion to training techniques as I am a very new dog owner - I feel a little overwhelmed sometimes. We are starting professional training very soon though. Thanks everyone for their time, I cannot tell you how much I appreciate being able to ask for assistance! Kindest Regards, Jacqui
  9. Hi Everyone, I'm ready to be *told*. I realise now I have done wrong. Pup is Charlie, just on 4 months old, purebreed beagel - and VERY true to his breed! My husband has been away for 3.5 weeks. Before he went, pup slept with us. In this time away, Charlie has continued to sleep in bed with me, and our lives have been completly intertwined. We had a lovely routine. He was a little norty at times in the mornings but I would correct him by either removing him, or saying *no*. Of course I continued to reward good behavior. My husband has come home and Charlie has gotten quite loud and excited. Extra barking, attacking hubby in bed (chewing his hair etc) just being more destrutive than usual. When we put him outside (if we are trying to clean or he has been too destructive) he BARKS and BARKS and BARKS. Charlie is an indoor and outdoor pup. When we are home he can normally have access to inside and out, when we go out he has access to outside and *his room* in the garage via a doggy door. Its gotten to the stage that now, with my husband home, I can't control him anymore. I think this is my fault for not being very strict whilst hubby was away. We just cruised together........ HOW do I get him to toilet outside again? HOW do I get him to stop barking as much? WHAT have I DONE?! *Hangs head in shame* Thanks...... Jacqui
  10. been slowwwwwly reading into the raw food thing......... have heard about the technique of taking the food away, will do further reading then perhaps start implementing it. Thanks to you both for responding! Jacqui
  11. Hi all, Am pretty new to all this, but wanted to ask for some assistance! We have been pro planning our little beagle (as per the instructions when we picked him up). He eats his puppy pro plan, doesnt chow down into it, sorta grazes for an hour or so but does definitly normally finish his food. Today, I had some left over plain beef and boiled vegetables (no seasonings whatsoever). I chopped it up quite small and mixed it in with maybe 2 table spoons of pro plan (dont know why, I think I have heard you are meant to add to together?) He wolfed down that food faster than I could blink. I have never ever seen him eat like that before. I guess Im concerned. Should I be feeding him real human food more often? I feel so overwhelmed when it comes to feeding that I dont really know what should work....... He is a happy little pup - I am working on uploading some shots to share. We just think he is so beautiful and love him to pieces! Thanks in advance, Jacqui
  12. i've heard white pepper can be good, though im concerned it may upset him (is an overprotective puppy mumma!!) Thanks for your responses everyone!
  13. We dog sat megan for our very close friends for 12 months whilst they were o/s. Completly different experiance lol. Megan was fully trained, quite independant, and though we loved her, not ours. We went to visit recently (they have settled in Innisfail, we are in Brisbane) when we became God Parents to their little baby boy (and to Megan and Moby - 2 bostons now!) and Megan remembered us without question. It was lovely to have such a loving greeting. For some reason, looking after Megan was easy, if there was a problem we would just ask her parents via email (there was never an emergency). So, I guess my husband and I consider ourselves to be first time dog owners.
  14. Hi everyone, I have a beautiful 3.5month old beagle pup we have names Charlie. We love him to pieces! I have been told that this can be a normal thing for beagle pups to do - he like to eat his poo! To help combat this, what we are doing is simpley removing his poo as soon as he eliminates. Sometimes we miss it when we are at work, but when we come home we go outside and get rid of it. Has anyone else successfully dealt with this, and if so, what methods did you try? Im finding it quite frustrating as there always seems to be a piece we have missed, and sure enough, Charlie is chewing on it. He is a lovely dog, with a gentle nature, gets a little excited when guests come but calms down once put outside for 1/2 an hour then allowed back in. We are first dog owners :-) Thanks! Jacqui
