Mia Is Sick - Update - Most Likely Its Charlie
SeeGee replied to SeeGee's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I wasn't grumpy, I just asked a question. Hope the fur kids will be ok. Sorry.....Im ultra sensitive at the moment. The blood in the stool worry me alot. Sorry sas. I think they will be ok. WE have only had one stool from each pup since we got back (its both pups too, we have had a bloody stool from charlie, and a bloody one from mia) but they are drinking water and eating their chicken and rice normally. I will just continue to monitor. -

Ive come home from work. Im too preoccupied, and the more I stress, my back gets worse (I have a bad back)... OH has separated the 2 dogs. He kept Charlie with him, and Mia in the living room. Came out and Mia has done a normal poo - like totally normal - so we think its just Charlie now. Will monitor both dogs, but keep them separate. Should have done that in the first place. Both pups have normal behaviour, and under vet instruction, are only being fed boiled chicken and rice. *sigh* my poor babies. -

vet went ok. we took a sample for the vet to look at. Excellent, lovely vet, named Dan. He thinks one or both of them have ingested something - no parasites came up so he has given us zantac and a pill that lines the stomache. I cant remember the name, OH has gone home with them and I have come to work. We have been advised to monitor them, and if there is alot more bloody stools or vomiting we are to go back asap, otherwise back in a week for a test that will advise if there is any damage to the kidneys. I am beside myself trying to work out what they may have injested and OH is going to go over the back yard and house with a fine tooth comb. We have always thought we are pretty good at keeping things away/out of reach but we must have stuffed up :D Thanks for everyones concern. sas, I know u'll go over the post and realise you've mis read it :-) Ive been an absoloute mess with worry about my babies - but I'd get grumpy if i thought someone wasnt going to take their pups to the vet if they were that sick! Fingers crossed by pups will be ok :p -

yea thanks all... to be honest we are only 70% sure its mia, it may be charlie. there has been one more bloody stool. heading in v soon. both pups have normal behavior......have appts for both at same time, just to be sure. poor babies -
mia vomitted up her lamb heart last night, and now has bloody stools. Heading to vet today, appt 1.20pm. trying not to stress, but I am. She is alot slimmer than Charlie and eats anything - Im worried shes gotten into something in the garden and Ive missed it. *sigh* Her worming is up to date. I cant think of anything.

Hubby got home yesterday to find pups had gotten my wheatpack from ON TOP of the buffet (never happened before - Mia is a jumper me thinks) and ripped it apart and at the contents. I didnt get told about it til this morning (OH and I on opposite shifts) then when I looked at the pups morning business it was jammed with undijestible wheat. They were full of it, then you can see the business going back to normal....... Do I need to worry about anything else? It seems to have just passed through them - Im a little annoyed he didnt tell me, but it appears everything is ok.....pup little quieter than normal but nothing that would concern me overly. They are still running around and wagging their tails, no drooling, drinking normally. Id appreciate any input.... thanks Jacuqi

Eggs are great for dogs and especially scrambled eggs. What you must never do is feed raw eggs as the white of an egg contains an enzyme called avidin; this decreases the absorption of biotin (a B vitamin). Cooked eggs are great. I'd be questioning the source of this - many RAW feeders will say they feed raw egg, with shell on a regular basis. To my knowledge, some RAW feeders (and I personally believe in the RAW way of life for dogs) may choose to give their dog a raw egg once or twice a week and no more. Why give an animal something that binds BIOTIN and makes it inaccessible? this can only result in a dog with a scruffy coat. Once a week will not prove to be of detriment but any more than that would be foolish unless the dog is supplied an abundance of biotin to make up for it and that would defeat the purpose of giving a dog a raw egg ?? Symptoms of biotin deficiency include dermatitis, a dry scruffy coat, etc etc. It isn't hard work to boil up some eggs, is there? Im learning - always open to new knowledge - thanks all

Thanks - I have to say I am unsure how the colouring goes. They marked her as lemon and white, and my vet says lemon and white, maybe its the lighting of the pics? But i honestly wouldnt know - no expert here!! Is there such thing as light tan? Ha ha ha -
