I have applied the Calendula tea to her. Now I'm crossing fingers it works. Erny, do you know if I can use the ointment on dogs? I bought a small tub of it from the health food store, I figured even if I couldn't use it on Honey it would be good to use for the kids too. It doesnt seem to have anything added to it.

I'll try the calendula first and see if it improves and if not I'll take her to the vet. I probably should get some antihitamines anyway, considering this isn't the first time she's had a rash. Then next time I can nip it in the bud.

Thanks Erny! That sounds it would do the trick, I'll try and get some calendula tomorrow. Poor sweetie, I suspect she is allergic to something in the grass at our local park. I'm pretty strict on her food because of her sensitive skin so Im fairly sure its not that. Right now, I'm thankful she is not as lethargic as she was.

Yes, salt water is great, that's what I've done since last night. Her odd behaviour seems to have settled now. Shall toss the pinetarsol. I was using it as recommended for skin irritations by a Goldie breeder on here. It has worked previously but this time I think she is having allergies rather than a hot spot, so the itch is still there under the skin and she keeps licking. I'll give her a bath in the morning and see if that helps her. Thanks.

I dont think that any real harm was done and the woman overreacted by saying your dog was aggressive BUT... in a dog park I believe that you need to be respectful of the other owner's wishes. It doesnt really matter whether you thought the playing was ok, if the other owner doesn't think so then you both should take your respective pups/dogs away. We all have different thresholds of what we find acceptable play but I have owned a DA dog who I believe learnt to be aggressive from overly rough playing as a pup. Of course there were other issues with her, but I wish I had taken my pup away when my gut instinct told me to, instead of listening to other owners saying "dont worry, they are just playing!". The woman sounds like she is just being cautious. Pups dont need to rumble to be socialised.

Late last night I noticed Honey had been licking her tummy and it was inflamed. She occasionally gets irritated skin on her tummy from wet grass if I haven't been super vigilant with drying her. As I usually do (as advised on here and which usually works very well), I applied some diluted pinetarsol to the area. I could almost see her sigh with relief. Not long after I went to bed, she hadnt been licking/scratching and she seemed fine. Early this morning when I got up to take her for her walk though, she had obviously been licking at it. No big deal, it usually takes a few days for it all to die down. Then on our walk, I realised she was lethargic. She wasn't really into the walk or even playing fetch- usually she LOVES it. All morning she has been flat and sooky. I may be anthromorphising, but she also did look a little queasy. When I left her at home with OH she was snoozing, which is not like her- especially since she didnt really tire herself out on our walk. I just checked with him and she has been up and about but gone back to sleep. I'm not toooo worried, she is still eating, had a couple of normal poos, hasnt vomited and is still alert. But OH has suggested that maybe the Pinetarsol is the culprit? I notice on the bottle is says to not ingest it and obviously by licking she has done so. So, anyone know if Pinetarsol is toxic? Googling is not coming up with anything. Regardless, Im not sure I'd use it again. Thanks, Dee

New Puppy With Young Child? Am I Asking For Trouble?

I dont see a problem. You are home more often with babies and toddlers which will make life with a puppy easier. -
Oh Mon, that sucks. Bloody dogs- we have a hole in the couch, bits missing off the car, etc etc from Evie's great chewing days. Like you, I once chased her around the back yard yelling at her while brandishing what had been our last remaining gardenia bush. You know it won't help but it's impossible not to! RIP beautiful leather glove...

My Goldie just carries around any tennis balls she finds in the house. She isn't a ball chewer, just a mouther. If your dog is like her then she should be fine.
-
If you don't have any iodine, you should get some for the future- it's great for little incidental scratches/hot spots etc. I wouldn't go to the vet for a scratch either.

I NEED a decent backyard so I can stop dreaming and get another dog! Then I can start a list of which dog!

Next time I think you should definitely call the ranger. The worry and the subsequent fine hopefully will make them think twice after that (but don't count on it). I live in the same area and cannot believe how many people think it's 'cool' to have their dogs offlead. Idiots, there are so many cars around.

Kirty, lots of hugs to you- I know how it feels. Vent away anytime!

Honey can be very pushy. She is very prone to nudging for pats, will put a paw on you for pats and will occasionally jump on the couch- where she is NOT allowed. I usually ignore or tell her to get down. She is not dominant about it and it doesnt bug me too much. She is such a sweetheart and I feel that she mostly does it out of excitement and happiness. Which is nice to see.

Aww, that is lovely! I have been thinking about taking Honey to visit my OH's elderly grandfather and great aunty at their nursing home- I KNOW they would love her. I should do more than think... I'm on holidays next week- you have inspired me to look into it Lorraine!

Yep, dribble, drool and slobber here too. I dont know why I persist in wearing mostly black- if its not cream fur, its slimy stripes of drool on my clothes. Not that I ever do anything about it, lucky it seems to fade when it dries.

I know what you mean, I spend all day at work doing the same! Honestly, by your posts, your dogs must be amongst the happiest dogs around!!
-
Ah yes, its a dilemma- I used to tuck a couple of liver strips into the band of my jogging pants but got sick of losing them, sliding down my legs! Now I dont take any. Interested to hear any workable suggestions.

Bub, are you happy having Bubby as he is- your mellow boy? Sounds to me like you are. So many dogs out there arent trained at ALL, but you have worked with Bubby and made him into the lovely boy he is. So if you and he are both OK with that then I dont see why you should change things. You have Bitty to train, which you both enjoy, and Bubby to cuddle afterwards, also which you both enjoy. Win win, I'd say.

I have this *ahem* friend, who has this lovely goldie who is such a good pet that I (oops, yes its me! ) don't feel hugely compelled to train her. She is such an easy dog to live with that its not a priority for me. I take her to obedience classes when I can and I do train with her, just not as much as I probably should. She is also not the easiest dog to train- eager to please but a bit slow on the uptake. Additionally, after having to work so hard with my last dog, I find it nice to just enjoy her.

I feed my dog Artemis. I am very happy with it, she loves it and it costs me about $18 a week. She also had a few skin issues when I started her on it which have gone now, plus her poos are great- soft yet together and not hugely prolific (only on a dog forum... ).

Ladies- Why don't you start your own thread on the subject?

Training A Dog To "ask" To Go To The Toilet
dee lee replied to dee lee's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
No brainer! That sounds like me! I actually think I can manage that- thanks, Nik!
