Can't say I've had much chance to catch the news. Although I did hear there was a possibility of hail, so I expect it will be coooooooold - so make sure to bring extra clothing. You can always peel it off if we're lucky enough to strike some weather as we've had over the last few days (20, 21 degrees). Mornings and night times have been crispy cold. But one good thing is that we'll be in the pavilion - so we will at least be able to stay dry. Blankets to cover over your dog's crate (if you have a crate) to help stop drafts (and to help reduce anxiety) as per the "Information Sheet" would also be a good thing. Must have missed out on the info sheet, great... Can someone please flick me a copy? -

I think it happens after they get wet. I've done one of them with the toothpaste, see how I go with that... -

Harsh but true, we trained our six month old GD from day one, we used the above method. Although we don't make her sleep in it at night she is quite happy to go in and have a nap when we go out. She knows she the door won't open if she cries so she has learned not to. But geez it was hard at the beginning to resist that little face...

As far as I remember reading it's an allergic reaction to protein in some dogs. Edit: Remember where I read it now. A guy in the US, Dr Caroll Weiss (he was involved in the study of Stone disease in Dallies), suspects it's diet related. He says her diet might either be to high in protein or some ingredients in it are allergenic and she's sensitive to those or a case of both. He suggested to get her urine tested for urinary crystals and abnormal acidity, both of those are a result of high purine/protein diet. He recommends a change to a hypoallergenic, low purine diet, but that means taking her off BARF, something we're not prepared to do.

Playing for sure! Here is our girls playing, sounds a lot worse than yours, but they are playing!

Hmmm, sounds like an expensive nightmare... Skin conditions can be like that, our dally has lumps on her backlegs, her shoulders and on her sides. As I'm not showing and they aren't bothering her I'm not doing anything about them. Some people say it's the bronzing dallies get but the skin never breaks and they're only lightly coloured. Bronzing indicates a too much protein/purine in the diet, she is on homemade well researched BARF and get's more vegs nowadays then meat (chicken mainly). Here is a pic:

One thing that's not stressed enough in puppy school is that the things they teach you there must be continued after the course is finished... Let us know where you are and we'll try and find a club that might be able to help.

Personally I wouldn't use the knee, young pups are too easily damaged. The ignoring part works well with older dogs. With pups you would need to stand still as well, with your arms up out of reach. We have a 14 week old Dane pup, we are currently training her to sit and wait when one of us comes home or visitors arrive. We do this by having her sitting between our legs asking her to wait holding her in position until her excitment is over. Only when she is quiet is she greeted. HTH sea

Maybe so, but your dogs will get more out of the vegies if they're run through the juicer, anything that's not broken down enough goes straight through.

<groan> BARF= Bone And Raw Food or Biologically Appropriate Raw Food Whilst it's great that you're thinking of feeding BARF and asking for advise here, you really need to go out and buy the books and read up about. There is a lot more to it than throwing the dog a bone and running vegies through a blender. Btw, the blender will not work. Dogs are incapable of breaking down the vegies, the juicer will break them down at cell level, once that's done the dogs can make use of them.

There is a great video on the Tube which might help you get her to tug less...

What did you think you where going to get when you got Ziggy? I just figured he'd come trained already....you know, like the ones in the movie? :D You only get that in the 101 package, not in the single unit purchase... Didn't they offer you the upsell????

I can't see anything wrong with a walk around a block for a pup once the vacc are done. Helps build up a bit of mussle mass and gives extra stimulation...

I find it hard to get past the whining...

Thanks for the link, reading through it though, I wonder why he spends 90% of his writings bad mouthing Billinghurst. A bit sad if you ask me... Hasn't he got anything better to do with his time?
