I strongly suspect you shant get an answer to that ;)

;) :D ;) This post has taken me half an hour to type but I'll try to get it out without laughing too much. Did you ever see the thread a few years ago written by a guy who was totally incensed that all people on Dogzonline did was talk about dogs? Everyone just turned around and said - urmmmm it's a DOG FORUM He thought it was more important that we talk about the half nude photos he posted of himself than our own dogs. Now let me ask you...what is wrong about that picture??? He left. He didnt get the attention he wanted. I guess he would have been better off if he'd been a dog, not a person. I strongly suspect that he meant to type in 'dollforums' not 'dolforums'.

I mean.... imagine people on a dog forum caring about dogs... bet that came as a shock!
-
Yep. That's the frightening bit, isnt it. Imagine if Grumpy got really grumpy and broke through the fence and bit one of those kids. All hell would break loose. Sheridan was actually asking how to deal with the situation so that it was unlikely to occur. Far out some of the carry on in this forum is quite entertaining. I agree Raz, I think I might run back to OT.. it's safer in there! As for kids growing up thinking they are the centre of the universe... it isn't healthy, it isn't reality and it does nothing to help them grow into fully functional and successful adults. That to me is the crux of the kids vs dogs argument... yes you can train the dogs, and you are training a dog that is a dog and will always be a dog.... or (or indeed AND) you can teach the child, who will learn a lesson that will contribute to their ongoing development into adulthood. Even for someone who thinks that any given child is more important than any given dog should see the investment in educating the child rather than focussing solely on training the dog.

I know, anyone who is so drastically offended by being asked if they have clean hands before patting someone's nice, clean, preened show dog isn't going to cope very well in life. God forbid... someone might honk in traffic (may they be struck down by lightening)!
-
What a load of crap. Not only do you assume that your child is more important to a pet owner than they're own animal, you're now branding us as kid haters. Unbelievable. Open your eyes. Your posts are really getting a tad hysterical. Are you implying that Sheridan hates children just because she was asking a question about keeping the peace between her neighbours, and her blind and old dog? Deary me. Sheridan's dog is more important to her than your child is to her. Get over it. It doesnt make her a kid hater. I agree Raz. Bloody hell.. talk about generalisations. So because my dogs are more important to me than random children I must hate them... god forbid I have children of my own.. what might I do to them then, since I clearly hate children so much ;) Ruger, I think for the safety of everyone involved, I'd agree with you that you are better off avoiding showing.

Oh for goodness sakes! Asking if someone has clean hands is not bad manners... most people who don't show dogs or realise the work that goes into a show coat wouldn't necessarily think that they need to have clean hands before patting a dog before (or after!) going into the ring. I wouldn't hesitate to ask someone if they have clean hands if they had asked to pat my dogs if it looked like they might be dirty (ie: if they were eating something)... I even have baby wipes/handwash that they could use if they really wanted to pat the dog... after all, we all get dirty... doesn't mean they have to pat my dog. As for children being more important than dogs.. that argument is getting boring... this is the wrong forum to get everyone to agree on that statement.

I might take you up on that thanks. I'm just worried about getting burned and Lola being too hot... apart from that we should be fine as I'm not staying too long. -

Yay I'm pretty much just going to be in and out of the show on Sunday which is a bit of a shame.. but I have to get home I'm trying to work out what is the bare minimum I can get away with taking with me. -
Ruger, take a chill pill.. seriously. As Ash said, you are taking Sheridan's request personally.... and everything else... and given your increasing need for the excessive use of caps and exclamation marks, I would suggest it isn't working for you.

Oh and I forgot.... Being on 99 points!!!!!!!!!! *grrrrr*

Running through puddles right before entering the ring for the first time and having to squelch around the ring in muddy shoes.

OMG... I think I'm developing a twitch... In my opinion, you are entitled to quiet enjoyment of your property. Someone elses kids are not more important to you than your dogs, but approaching neighbours requires tact and understanding, which no doubt you have. I have had my fair share of issues with neighbours and it works itself out one way or another... I tolerate the neighbours kids throwing stuff over the fence, and they tolerate getting their balls back in small pieces. Although I admit I have called the police on the neighbours kids when they have been setting off fireworks in the backyard and I had a very distressed dog. As for the comments about shows... if I had kids coming up to my dog in her crate without permission I would be looking around for the parents and wondering why on earth they weren't controlling their children, particularly given that I am controlling my dog by having her secured. Dogs are living, breathing, sentient creatures... they aren't a piece of equipment that you can turn on and off and parents have an equal if not greater responsibility to teach their children how to function in society as effective adults.... they do this by learning the rules of society, like it's not polite to look into other people's properties or invace people's personal space.

I will have to pop over from ring one and say hello....what will you be wearing? Not sure ATM lol. But my polar fleece has my prefix on it We have Border Terriers and a sable and white collie smooth and will be with a black & white Lowchen so not hard to miss :D easier for you to spot us than trying to workout who is who in the pugs Can't even tell you which ring we will be at yet. Yup.. look for the b&w Lowchen... she's easy to spot... there are rarely many of us there... and generally no other b&w's Look forward to seeing you there. Now to go chase my dog and dry her off
