  15. We had our girl booked in for scan with our usual vet but he had been called out so a new vet did the scan. Well she tried and tried but couldn't find anything, tol us to come back after day 28..............she was already on about day 30! So took her back to our usual vet the next day - he went zap zap and said 8!!! She had 9!!! We didn't pay for the first vets opinion :D
  16. I agree - I wouldn't refund until xrays seen....... We have had one instance of HD in the dogs we breed (out of the blue!) - luckily mild - the owners already had another older dog from another breeder and didn't want anything from us, even though they couldn't do the agility they wanted to. When we heard that they had had to put their other dog down due to a brain tumour we offered them another puppy (free of course!) when they were ready. They waited 2 litters and then took another boy. She is now doing agility, obedience and Rally O. She also does Paws 2 Music with the HD girl as she can tailor moves to her. All this was missed by your owners just because they didn't get back to you when they should have done.......
  17. I'm certainly not agreeing with what has been done but ..... my story Large breed dog, well looked after, after all bought as a show/breeding dog. 7 1/2 months old Didn't have any problems with him - he did pace occassionally but put it down to being easier for him because he is big. He was shown quite a few times and loved it. Went to a show on the Saturday and ran round a few times to warm him up - he appeared to favour rear leg a wee bit so scratched him. Went on Sunday (show other dogs as well) and he was about the same, most of the time looked OK but favoured rear leg occassionally again. Took him to vet on Monday and he was xrayed, he was at the specialist by Thursday and had severe HD in right hip, nothing cna be done, Left hip able to have TPO, major surgery, only possible 1) because of his age, just under 8 months and 2) there was just enought good bone for the plates to attach to. The operation was done the next week - any later and it would have been too bad/late! This all happened 3 months ago - unfortunately he moved suddenly in the first week while he was hobbled and had to have the op all done again ( )We are still taking things very very slowly, he is able to walk for 10 minutes a day now. My whole point of this is that one day (not even 1 week!) he was fine - within 2 weeks he HAD to have major surgery. We have been breeding (not these dogs) for many years and know how to look after dogs but we had no idea that he was in any pain, was uncomfortable and so seriously impaired. He didn't limp at all - just slightly favoured a rear leg! Will be really interested to hear the results of the xrays - hope you get to see them......
  18. Flocked and posted on my FB - I might be in NZ but have friends in Aussie....
  19. We have a Scarlett - who also gets Scartlotta and Miss Scarlett and at only 4 months old answers to all of them quite happily. Mind you at 4 months old I could probably call her what ever I wanted and she would come running!
  20. We had the opposite with Teagan . She was so protective of her babies that we had to muzzle her to even get near them! Lasted a couple of days and we just took it very slowly with her and she came right. This was with her first litter born naturally. 2nd litter was c section and she thought about going the same way, I put a muzzle on her but once she was over the anaesthetic she came right. She could still clean the pups etc so might need a different type of muzzle but there is nothing wrong with using one for the safety of the pups - or in our case, our safety!!
