  1. hahah..i didnt think that wat it looked like at all. I added the ticker just as i had my baby ,and joined Indie to my pack anywho..Indie is up to date with everything!! had her shots ages ago!
  2. I have noted in the last week that at the back of Indies neck, right about where her chip was implanted, that there is a movable lump.. could this be the chip?.its only slighty larger than the grain of rice, maybe x2 at most. Ive never been able to physically feel a chip before though! Maybe someone else has? it moves under finger pressure but only around the same spot?? Any ideas ??? ETA - Indie was chipped many months ago
  3. Same as Jake had..But he lived a long time after diagnosis with no ill effects till the last days! Sending out all the positive energy I can muster for you Mooper
  4. Hmm..cant answer, but thanx for posting. Will be watching with much interest!

    Crates

Austen,if u can partition part of the crate off its fine..!! Use ur imagination as to how u can segregate a portion off.

    Crates

i bought one of those mink blankies for winter for them,i spread it inside and out of the crate so they can lie outside of it they want. i find if anything has stuffing in it,its quickly destuffed!!
  7. i hope i didnt sound pesimistic in my post... Just to note,My Jake was too far gone to do anything for.. And even then he survived a long time. So im sure all will be ok..dont panic. Deep breaths and one step at a time. PS. Mooper..more like good on Jake for taking us on.. God bless him..he was that once in a lifetime dog we all have had or will one day!!
  8. Two seperate vets and the shelter that i got him from told me this...Jake was already dying of Cancer when we took him on. When we removed Jakes lumps, they grow around the areas, like warts. This was true with Jake. Jake had so many lumps that to continue to cut at him would have meant that his last few years would have been in an out of surgery, and recovering. This is not fair on the dog. The vets words were simply, dont insult Jake by doing this, just let it be. I didnt know you were a vet Staffyluv..i have plenty of questions for you in that case!! ETA-Im adding what happened in MY case BTW..Jake was too far gone wen we rescued him. Sometimes its better to just let the dog be,instead of thinking wjats best for us. A positive outcome, would mean to me,that the dog lived happily until such time he can no longer survive. Dont you think if there was a better solution for Jake i would have done it? I have had to have therapy over the loss and was put on anti depressants. I didnt make my choices lightly, and i made them with 100% Jakes best interest at heart and not my own! And to be honest i think a 2-3 year extension on life long after cancer was diagnosed IS a good outcome!
  9. My Jake just passed away from it. Problem with it,is if u operate, the lumps can form inside as well as outside. It comes back with a vengence. We decided that it was best to no operate after the first major cluster was removed,as the surgery could be dangerous anyway given that he could have renal failure. Jake lived anouther 2-3yrs since being diagnosed and had perfect health up untill the weekend before her was PTS. So sorry to hear of your situation...I know how hard it is! Im welling up just thinking about it..!! Best wishes!
  10. I would go with trainer one as well. My mums Maltese does this,..SOMETIMES growls.. and then even yelps. Shes old,and its from her sore joints. I would have a vet check your dog over ..to be sure to be sure!! Then carry on with Trainer ones suggestions
  11. Are u able to change ur routine a little? Mix it up so she never knows when she will be going walking? I have started to wear my dogs leads around my neck and flicking the latch so they desensitise to the sound..desensitise the cues . Im sure someone here will be able to provide you with better responses, but this is a start i guess lol Good luck with it!!
  12. husky87,i posted the link for all to see and check out for themselves..but here it is again http://www.petresortsaustralia.com ..Anywho..This dog is in trouble and the owner hasnt the time to deal with it nor the know how. Steve Austin as with other groups, offer IN HOUSE training for the dogs, Franks dog is in need of INTENSIVE treatment. The dog is trained for two weeks without the owner, then the when the time comes to take the dog home, the owner is given a session taught what the dog was taught and how to maintain the training. I would never suggest just anyone ship a dog off for training, however since this dog is now biting kids faces, its IMO for this particular case,a very worthy path to think about going down.
  13. If he hasn't got the time for it, then why have a dog? Behaviourial problems cannot be fixed by a quick visit to a dog trainer, you need to have consistency in the dogs home and with the dogs pack. In most cases it is about teaching the owner, not the dog. A trainer like Steve Austin may be able to handle problem dogs easily himself but that does not mean that Frank will be able to unless he is taught how to do so. Sending the dog away will be useless if Frank isn't going to continue the training at home. A quick example - my beagle will walk on a loose lead for me but not for my sister because my sister does not do any training with her and does not know how to control the dog or how to get her to walk on a loose lead. I would never let my dog be trained by someone without knowing exactly how they are planning to do so and how they plan to achieve any results. I would want to be there the whole time so that I can learn how to handle my dog too. ETA: Frank's problem is the dogs interactions with his children. How will sending the dog away to be trained by a stranger fix this? this is EXACTLY as I wrote: Truly, the cost,if you employ outside help is low,if you havent got the time,Hanrob **(Steve Austin) takes dogs and trains them for you,you DO need to continue to train yourself, but at least your well on your way. And Steves staff spend time with the owners ,training them as well! Imsurprised you arent familiar with his process. This dog is obviously getting too much to handle and needs urgent help
  14. To be honest...i dnt think Franks comin back..hahahah we cld ramble all day and he aint gna hear us!!
  15. \Personally I would never recommend sending the dog away to be trained - firstly, you have no idea what training methods are being used or how the results are being achieved. I am very wary of places that do this. Secondly, if Frank is unwilling to change the way he treats the puppy and to learn how to train it more appropriately then it doesn't matter if this dog gets all the training from a behaviourist possible - if it isn't continued at home then the dog will revert back to its old habits. For any improvement it needs to come from the owners willingness to commit to training IMO. You cant get any better than Steve Austin...I would have NO hesitation sending my dog to him. Frank already said he hasnt the time for it,best left to a professional, and theres few as good as Steve Austin,I dare say! http://www.petresortsaustralia.com/ thats the link to his site (Steve Austin)
  16. lyn...you not alone there...showed my OH so we went in here. But saying that......if frank dont listen here..what else could one say?? nothing!!! Sad but true,..some people just dont want to put in any effort. Puggles your right,,,think Frank has left us
  17. The sad part of this whole thing is that its indicative of SOOOoooo many dog owners out there. Get a dog, chuck it in the yard "she'll be right"'... Then "OMG its a monster",when the dog bites. How the heck does the dog know any different. I dont show any of my dogs, but all of my dogs receive training. Its tiring at first being so consistent and you wonder at some stages if they will ever get it,but isnt the end result worth it. A trained dog is such a joy to behold, there is no greater feeling than spending the days with your best friend who you can trust to respect you and your pack!!! Truly, the cost,if you employ outside help is low,if you havent got the time,Hanrob **(Steve Austin) takes dogs and trains them for you,you DO need to continue to train yourself, but at least your well on your way. This dog is only young and easily trainable... Please dont wipe your hands of it then get another, and do the same thing again. You cant just cross your fingers and HOPE your dog will be good, you get out what you put in. **ETA..Im not sure wat Steve Austins training is now called?? This has been a very interesting read,..and to think i only popped in here cause on the site all i could see was "Whats wrong with my cock ..im such a child!! pmsl
  18. I was going to say the same thing...maybe give him a good long walk before bedtime. Cattles are very smart, i have a staffy x cattle who finally at 15 isnt a pain in the ass... opening fridges to steal food, opening doors to let herself in and out etc Dogs train people very well, and it seems his behaviour is working for him..you come outside when he's doing this. His training of you is in tact hahaha. Its so hard when u know they must be waking the neighbours. Can your parents comprimise and let him in the laundry or garage overnight? Maybe its time to think about crate training, and put him to bed with a bone/kong etc.The crate i bought was $150. Very cute dog BTW
  19. I would love to add that we had a wee wee poo poo free night !! woohooooooooooooo!
  20. ok..i woke up to my ANTIQUE lounge chewed..Im going to have to hide this from my hubby. He is already peeved cause we spent the weekend fixing Indie boo boos. I did buy a crate for Indie, but the old staffy took to it and sleeps there all the time. Maybe i need a new one for Indie and crate her over night? this is the only time she does stuff! Indie is definatly colluding with the other dogs, making our bond harder to achieve,so maybe the respect issue needs to be addressed!?
  21. it just means you are training with a different method. Alot of dogs are trained as you have described. I also train my dogs this way. Never harsh.they are praised with "good dog",and corrected verbally (not yelling) And occasionally when they "come",there will be a treat for them.
  22. ;) :D Im with you... Also sitting hereon my chewed chair at my chewed computer desk, surrounded by bits of tissue pieces, and a chewed margarine lid etc etc.... P.S Chew spray didnt work for me!
  23. TonyMc let me tell you,the original owner of the dog,has a seedy past to put it politely...i HIGHLY doubt that he would have viewed Sire and dam. Its a very long story on how my friend came about caring for this dog. I have instructed her to release the dog to someone more capable. She feels so guilty, but i think TBH that this dog is WAY over her head.
