Help? Info On Running Puppy Preschool
Mushaka replied to GSD FAN's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
i just finished puppy preschool with Indie...i can give u a rundown of wat my course entailed if u want?? -
I bought a stash of pigs ears. The only time she gets them is when she is in the car. Indie now leaps into the car, whereas before i had to drag her sorry butt in . I just chuck her in the car where ever im going, and shes so focussed on chewing she doesnt budge

My staffy has been raised on mainly canned food (shame) but she has always wanted it and loved it till she became allergic..she is also 15>>....who knows!! Either way she is the only dog ive ever raised on canned food and is no longer on it as she needs more fish in her diet...I know wat u mean Kobay.. i get half way thru a post somethimes n think, hey,.i cant be bothered with the rest..LOL
-
kobayashi..dont wait till ur last bag is gone. U need to slowly introduce foods to ur dog. Especially pups. While u still have the other bag of food slowly integrate it with your new barf diet.

Saying Hello To Other Dogs
Mushaka replied to charlie mouse's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
leopuppy can u come train my dogs..im tired!! lmao! Sounds like u have done great work!! I have just started "full on" training with my dogs, and i notice that alot of problems stemmed from my busy house.Too many people saying too many things!! I have now posted signs through the house, and at the front door requesting no looking at my dogs even until i say so. Good luck muckypup. My last staffy didnt think he was a dog so he didnt even look at another dog. A group of blokes together were his target lol...LOVED MEN! -

ok recall is great to learn, but u need to teach ur dog to IGNORE distractions such as other dogs.. teaching "look at me" for this behaviour could be fundamental -
Obsessed With My Guinea Pigs
Mushaka replied to Mushaka's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Thanx tony,..ive admitted defeat and am moving them tomorrow!!! -
We recently moved our guinea pigs from inside, where Lewis ignored them, to a large cage outside. It took a few days, but Lewis discovered them and has become obsessed!! He does nothing else but stare at the cage, when of course he isnt biting at the chicken wire.( already had to patch a few holes). It at the point now that he must be supervised when outside. My other staffy x and my amstaff have a peek at them from time to time, but keep walking, but old Lewis is beginning to have permanent chicken wire indents on his nose Is there anything i can do to get him away from these piggies,or do i have to admit defeat and move them??
-
HOLY MOLY those prices are rich!! You would have to be rich to afford it!! I had my behaviourist out for $130 for 2 hours. She has put us on a programme for Lewis and offered free over the phone advice if needed. We are also going to be taking Lewis to small classes with behaviorsit and trainers so they can watch him and assist appropriatly if he displays any problems. The course for 4 weeks is $60... If all else fails, clomicalm may be the next step as part of his rehabilitation. Bark Busters is the franchise Mel is referring to,..shes right, for a dog like urs these people are a definate NO NO! For some it may work but most DOLers wil advise against them.
-
If theres no aggression it might be wise to get ur dog on meds. If ur dog displays aggression to Other dogs sometimes its better to steer clear of these drugs. Speak to ur vet about ur concerns. Im sure there are trainers on DOL with some advice as well...they must be all sleeping LOL.. Good luck with ur dog and good on u for rescuing!!
-
Have u spoken to ur vet about this?? I am in the process of helping my dog too. Trying to avoid medication for anxiety, however it may come to that. Is ur dog displaying any dog agression at all?
-
HI there, U dnt say how long u have had ur stafford for? Staffies by nature are an anxious breed and rescue staffies tend to have more problems as a rule.. NOT all of them though. I have issues with mycurrent rescue Stafford too,but my last rescue was a dream once in a lifetime kinda dog,so i cant paint them all with the sdame brush and wont. IMO fear is hard to overcome. How are YOU reacting to HIS reactions?? Are u subconciously "rewarding" the behaviours etc
-
u have the perfect tool there, OTHER DOGS. use them to teach ur dog !!! my dog learnt how to walk by walkin with the other dogs!
-
Well she didnt say it to ME cause MY dogs is wonderful!! She told the rest of the class to get one as thier dogs were all pulling. She said the regular colars they were using were choking the dogs and thats why they were resisting. I got my Lupi for my older rescue dog,who is generally ok on lead, but i need to get him to understand that i want him BESIDE me not in front. He doesnt pull, but i want more obedience! OK it might be cheating, but I'll try anything! His behaviourist comes today, she might help me get a better understanding of him. He has a few issues!! Staffie!!
-
by the way erny, ur soooo popular ur inbox is too full for my messages lol
-
When my pup is off lead and on my front lawn,to get her back when i see she has the desire to wander too far, i just call her excitedly and get on all fours bum in air and bang the ground etc..she gets so excited she comes runing back!! NO matter how long it takes to get her back never get angry wen she finally does! Even if she keeps runnning dont chase her, i slowly follow (cause im on a main road i have no room for error),but stand still when she looks back at me. Then go to all fours again. Dnt freak out n chase her,she WILL think its agame and keep running AWAY from u

I agree Kelpie,i would prefer not to have put her into position but she just couldnt get it. I think i've over enforced the "no eating till i say" business lol so when i pull the food too far out she just sits back and waits for it! I really think i might benefit from "spying" on my local club until she is old enought to attend!!
