Just had a quick look on the website because I was wondering where their meat comes from. I don't think I could give my dogs horse meat.
-
City farmers wouldn't order it in for me at my local store which is a shame because I rack up so much money there and get $10 off all the time. There members club is so worth it!

Hi, don't think that feeding low protein diets to large breed puppies is the advice going around 'right now'. I thought that was more like the old advice. All the recent journal articles I can find say it's more to do with calcium/phorphorus ratios and calorie intake. On another note my two dogs have been on Orijen for a while and they absolutely love it but it's not all good things I'm seeing. There stools are too soft half the time and they are now both farting machines since switching to it. On the other hand their coats are absolutely beautiful on it. My puppy is such a guts hey I've never seen such an eating machine except for our family's bull terrier growing up.

Has anyone's pooches started farting more since being on orijen? Mine have and it's heaps stinkier!

I put a $200 deposit down for a litter that hadn't even been mated. At the time the breeder wasn't even sure who she was going to mate the bitch to. Circumstances changed and I had to cancel my name on her list which I did in less then a week after puting my name on her list but the breeder would not return the deposit. I now know never to give a deposit for a puppy until it's born or a least until the bitch is pregnant!

Really? I fed less of the Orijen, but my stockist didn't have any Orijen so I got Eagle Pack. I'm just using the pack itself as a guide — in fact that's the lower end of what it says she should get given her age and weight. I agree though — it seems like a lot to me also! Having said that, she's in no way overweight, she's quite lean. She is growing VERY fast though. By the way, she LOVED the chicken wings. I only gave her one for her dinner, and this seemed to do her. I might feed her even less kibble and go for two. I find feeding all very confusing — lots of conflicting advice — but I'm trying to maintain her weight so her ribs are not visible but I can easily feel them, and so she has a defined waist when observed from above. But should I factor in her growth as well? In a large fast growing puppy you should be able to feel it's ribs quite easily. I fed my older wei Eagle large growth puppy and he was always quite thin and i had to feed him more the the recommended allowance plus mince to try and get weight on him. I ended up giving up with eagle pack as he just stayed skinny. As soon as I switched him to orijen he gained weight instantly. I currently have my 12wk old puppy on Eagle Pack large breed puppy as I can't get any large breed puppy from orijen. I make sure to feed him the max for his age and weight due to the fact I know these biscuits don't have much in them. I also feed mince and my puppy is growing nicely. You can feel his ribs and back bone and my vet said he's the perfect weight for his breed and age. Hope that helps. Just don't under feed your pup on Eagle pack or over feed it on orijen. When I get hold of some orijen for my puppy I'll cut his daily amount right back to make up for all it's extra protein.

Since swapping my weimaraner onto it he hasn't been any more hyper actually I think he's less. It seems to have made him very docile and calm at home and then when exercising he is more alert and runs for longer with more spring in his step. So basically it's given him more energy when he's exercising but at home he's really relaxed. I'm pretty happy with it. At the moment I'm feeding him more then what's reccommended as he was looking a little skinny. He's now put on weight in only a few weeks and soon I'll have to cut it back.

I order mine online from Pookinuk. It cost $5 to get it delivered. The adult formula came straight away but the the adult large breed formula is on back order. My adult wei doesn't really like dry food - never has so I mix mince through it. The went of the orijen even with mince in it until I realized that he just didn't want the mince in it and now eats it all dry!

I Know Its Been Asked Alot But...

I was super paranoid about feeding the wrong food with my wei puppy as they are fast growing large breed dogs. I switched between Science diet, Eukkanuba, Iams and Eagle pack and fed him raw mince of different kinds, bones and sardines in oil oh and yoghurt. I also gave him ester C as well. Actually come to think of it I'm extremely paranoid about growth issues and never settle on one diet or brand of dog food so he got a hell of a variety (changed over very slowly of course!). Now I'm feeding my new pup Eagle Pack and Orijen as well as the stuff mentioned above. I'm still hell paranoid about the protein % in orijen even though I've spent hours reading about how protein % isn't what causes problems as once thought. Good luck! -
I've had my adult wei on it for 3 days. Day 1 he loved it, day 2 he ate it slower and now day three he doesn't really care for it and wants me to put mince through it like I use to do to his eagle pack. I thought it would take months for him to get sick of it by it self. He is doing smaller poos which is good but they aren't very firm. Anyone having similar results?

I'm feeding 6-7 cups of EP holistic to my adult weimaraner plus about half a kilo of mince a day which is a lot of food for a dog that's not growing and guess what. He's not putting condition on!!!!! He is very active but still it's a lot of food that he doesn't eat unless I add mince. I have orijen on order and can't wait for it to get here!

Thanks for the link FTO. So does anywhere know where I can get some in Perth? I can order it online at $120 for 13.5kg not a lot for a lot of $$$.

Hmm I don't know what to think but yes that thread would be good to read does anyone have the link?

Protein (min.) 42.0% Fat 16.0% http://www.championpetfoods.com/orijen/pro...geAnalysis.aspx Isn't that to much protein for a large fast growing puppy?
-
Oh and I was also wondering - does anyone know the percentage of protein in the large breed puppy formula of orijen?
-
I'm considering changing from Eagle Pack holistic to Orijen as I'm having trouble getting condition on my 15month old wei. Anyone else have this problem with Eagle pack? Or what are the reasons you are all changing from Eagle pack?

What My Vet Said About Fleas
Blues and Boots replied to ruthless's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hey guys, Sorry if this has been discussed else where but has any one here who has used frontline in the past noticed that it's not as effective any more? I was using it religiously with my cats. When one of them was asked to be a blood donar at our vets, after I took him in the vet rang me saying that he is absolutely covered in enormous adult fleas. This treatment was due in a few days but they'd been on him for a while. I frontlined him again when he came home and in a week I was still finding lively adult fleas! So then I put advocate on him and now they are gone. I told my friend who is a vet nurse in America and she said that frontline was no longer working for her mum's cats in America! Anyone had the same results? -
I'll try and put a photo on the wei thread but I couldn't get them to upload before. Yeah he had a reaction to a vaccination but only a small one - he got a large marble where the needle was. I'm a bit worried about the cat poo he eats. I try to get it out of his mouth but he goes in search of it when I'm not home. It's so disgusting. I hope he doesn't get sick from it.

Thanks for your replies it was fun reading them. It's funny what these puppies like to eat - mine loves sand and rocks at the moment. You can tell where he has been by the colour of his sand poos. There's blue metal ones and river sand ones and garden soil ones, it's pretty funny. He also has the odd stick and gumnut poo too. I'm just glad nothing's getting stuck with his luck i'm crossing my fingers. I've read a few pages on this forum and looked at the photos and haven't noticed many wei owners or photos but I'm guessing a few people have had them by the look of the replies.

Hi - just wanted a whinge. I've had my puppy 6 weeks and he's had to go to the vets 5 times! Everytime I give him the once over I'm constantly finding things wrong it's very frustrating and costing a bit too. he's still very healthy and getting top quality food but seems to find trouble for himself. First a yeast infection in both ears that needed two vet visits. Then he had a reaction to a needle and a bee sting that didn't require vet visits. Then he had a huge reaction on his face to an insect sting where his face puffed up into a football and now he's got some kind of eye infection which needs a check up vet visit. He's on 2 kinds of eye drops and antibiotics. He's a little 15wk Weimaraner who I love to bits but jeese he's been a little drama puppy lately - especially this week. Anyone else finding their puppy needing a few extra vet visits then they might like? Also is there anyone in WA who can recommend a good obedience school near Kwinana or South of perth somewhere?
