So anyone given the 12 month implant and found their dog was permanently infertile well after the implant should have worn off??
-
Why not just teach the dog (big, small, whatever breed) it's not allowed to be anywhere near the baby. That's what I'm planning to do when I one day bring a baby home until I invite them on my terms to come closer. That is what I have done with my birds. I have 3 weimaraners who are all very full on at times but they each know the birds are off limits and have been taught to respect them. If a bird waddles towards them they get up and let the bird walk where it wants to go. I first taught them they weren't even allow to look at the birds or there'd be consequences. It kind of seems like this person has just expected the dog to know how to act around children/babies which kind of brings me back to my original comment that perhaps this person shouldn't get a dog at least until the kids are a bit older. I hope Hank finds a new home soon!!

Sorry for my comment but it's just so common for people that don't know how to dicipline their dogs or set propper boundries end up choosing a pretty looking, silver dog MOST of the time because they love the colour and look of the dog and totally disregard people's advice when they say it will be a lot of work as they are highly active and need firm leadership. Allow me to change my comment, "Weimaraner's are not for everyone (as are other high energy dogs like dobermans, gsp's etc). Stick with low energy dogs or cats".

Sounds like your just not a dog person. Stick with cats.

Fellow WA'er here - Hi All!!

Claire, would love to help out. Will PM you!!

Go through the Quokka and find a reasonable priced second hand aviary - some are advertised for free if you take them a part yourself. You can then deck it out full of kitty things like cat scratchers and toys. I let my cat outside during the day and he was hit by a car a few weeks ago. He's minus a hip joint but is going to be ok. He's inside all the time now but getting very frustrated. I'm hoping to move to a bigger house soon which should make things a hell of a lot easier.

Puppy Hides Things Once Given To Him
Blues and Boots replied to Oscar (AmBull)'s topic in Puppy Chat
It's just normal puppy behaviour. Only a few weeks ago it was competing with its litter mates for everything so it's still in that state of mind I'm guessing. There's nothing wrong with it and it doesn't need to be 'corrected'. -
The problem is, though, that when I feed offal at home I know exactly what proportions of offal I'm feeding. I also know that it's excellent quality offal since I selected it myself. Whereas a company that just lists "byproduct" on the bag could be using any type of offal in any proportions. So I'm happy to buy a food that lists "liver" or "bone" or "kidney" or "tripe" on the ingredient panel. I'm not happy buying a product that just lists "byproduct". Makes me wonder what they're hiding, or whether the company even knows what's in the product themselves. If they're not prepared to tell me what's exactly in the food, I'm not prepared to buy it. Just wondering which dog food your referring to that lists the ingredients like that?

Hi guys, After trying nearly every brand of biscuit there is and going through the journey of holistic vs grain free vs everything else I've actually gone back to Eukanuba and Advance plus added raw extras for a number of reasons. Be careful about that food analysis website that says by-products are bad. It really depends on the brand of dog food. Offal is a by-product so if you feed Barf that I think has some offal in it you are feeding your dog by-products. Your also feeding them by-products by giving them a bone so it's not necessarily a bad word. All the chicken products in Eukanuba come from a whole chicken that has had head, feet and feathers removed. The remaining body is what is ground down into a paste or meal. So it's pretty much the 'whole' chicken but has to be labelled a by-product as it includes the bones and offal etc. It's the cheaper brands that feed dodgy by-products as you don't know what they mean by by-products and their ingredients change bag to bag depending on what is cheapest at the time. Some companies actually buy Euk/iams left overs to put in their dog food as by-products so you have to really trust the brand in order to use their food. Euk/iams is such a huge company that has been around for so long that other companies find it hard to rival the quality of their ingredients and processing. The food is analysed at many intervals to check ingredient amounts etc and each bag has been tested 120 times to make sure of its ingredients before it sent to stores. I've had some training about Euk/iams and I was really impressed. I've also spoken to people who have been to their research facility and it looks awesome, here are some facts about it iamstruth.com The bad rap it has for animal testing is because it use to hire universities to do its studies and it was one uni in particular that had their animals in disgusting conditions. After that was exposed the company built their own research facility and will never use any other kind of research facility again. Their own program is non-invasive and all animals are either rehomed or live at the centre when their feeding trial has ended but you can read all about that in the website if you were really interested. I've fed nearly all the main brands of biscuit and I actually like most of them except eagle pack and orijen. Loved them at first due as I was following all the latest trends and ideas but my dogs ended up doing poorly on them especially eagle pack, Baker was as skinny as hell on 7 cups a day!!!! And his coat was dry and dull. I really like royal canine as my dogs did well on it and loved it also but it's about $20 more a bag for a less kilos so it is just not worth the extra money for less food I think. So now my three are on Euk as I can get it pretty cheaply and trust its ingredients. This post is just my opinion so hope I haven't upset anyone .

Thanks for everyone's replies. I think I'm going to go with PIA as it will work out the cheapest with 3 dogs. Has anyone found one that covers birds??

I don't reckon all humping is a dominance thing. I think many do it because it feels good! When I babysit a friends lab who stands for my boys like a bitch in season they know they are above him in the pack. Baker doesn't allow him to go near his bed and the lab submits automatically yet Baker will hump him for hours and so will Eli because they LOVE doing it! The lab just stands there or lies down when he's had enough.

Puppy Not Doing So Well On Barf
Blues and Boots replied to rosylea's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Feed your dog food that it does well on. I've wasted soooooooooooooo much time researching the best diets and brands of food to feed my beloved babies and you know what they are back on a premium dry food with a few bits and peices added to it and are all doing well. I'm doing an assignment at the moment where I have to formulate horse rations that have to per perfect for the horses age, weight, activity level and breed. OHMIGORD it's extremely hard balancing the ratios and I would never try to do this now for my dogs when a good brand of dogfood is already doing it all for me! -
Hi, I've finally decided to get pet insurance from learning things the hard way and I'm tossing up between, PetInsurance Australia and Bow Wow Meow Pet Insurance. I'm going for the cover that costs about $15 a month per animal and you can't claim unless the bill is over $500 so I only want it for serious illnesses and emergencies that involve expensive surgeries. Has anyone had problems with these two companies or had problems with claiming things they thought they should have been able to? Also does anyone recommend another company that has a simlar rate per month?
-
Baker has had this problem but it wasn't from humping I don't think, actually it could have been but I think it was more from having a way to big stiffy and then doing wizzies and stretching the skin to much until it was damaged. I just left it to heal after the bleeding was stopped and it did so. The blood was really streaming out and I had blood everywhere in the house! Eli was next to do something to his willy, he had a big stiffy, to big in fact and it all came out then he rolled into the sand and it went back in taking a covering of sand with it and boy he howled with pain cause all the sand was scratching his poor willy. Again I let him take care of it and it's fine now.

Poor Eli, he's trying nipping her, biting her, jumping on her, ignoring her but nothing has worked. So now he's giving howling a try.

Is Three A Crowd?
Blues and Boots replied to luv mini schnauzers's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I just added a third to my small 2 bedroom house (extremely large backyard though ). It's been a few weeks now and things are going really well. She is making it quite easy though by only peeing and pooing on newspaper - what a god send! My last pup I swear peed every 3 mins and in a different room or floor surface each time. That made things very annoying whereas with this little girl everything seems great........... so far anyway. Walking two is hard enough, three is gonna be quite different. Looks like my halties are gonna get worn a fair bit in the future. I think the new addition's personality will be the maker or breaker. -

I haven't been on this thread in a while but it looks like many people are having the same reaction my guys had with orijen - beautiful coats, happy dogs but unhappy owners putting up with all the farting and having to clean up two runny poos to every one hard one everyday. My two are back on Advance. I still might use orijen again but gee feeding Advance saves the $$$$.

Hi, just found my 5 month old weimaraner crying in the back yard. Brought him inside to find his willy out of its sheath erect and unable to go back in. It was also covered in dirt like his belly had hit the ground. It went back down but not in time for me to wipe the dirt and crap from around it so now he has a sheath full of dirt. I was just wondering if it will most probably clean itself or whether an infection is likely to happen? Poor little guy, he's gone a sooky.
