Our German shepherd use to chuck tantrums and really tried to dominate me (not my husband) and this went on for months...especially around 5-10 months... and it drove me mental... While she was very strong showing my teeth made it worse and she would growl and bark at me (NEVER bit me). she would get sin binned so she learnt it wasnt on... by walking away when he growls he learns aggression will make you go away, his desired behaviour...not what you want... As for eating, we also make Zoe eat after us, and always make her work for her meal... we add food to bowl and sometimes take it away to discourage posessiveness over food and she couldnt care now if we took food from her, she just sits quietly and waits for her meal.... never begs or makes a sound... it is a delight.. we can even feed the cat chicken in front of her and she will watch quietly. We have a good strong leather lead too, it makes the world of difference.... Need to nip this in the bud now before it becomes a big 40kg+ problem.. good luck! maybe a behaviouralist? We followed NILIFprogram and god knows we had a few home sessions before Zoe hit 12 months and they were worth every cent...

We had this problem when our pup was young, we considered training her to ring a bell but thought that might be a bad and noisy idea... She eventually just stood at the back door and wouldnt sit, just stand and look at us so we knew she needed to go out.... I dont know if it will help but by going to the vback door we just knew...

Ralphy, I feel our pain! Puppies and gardens dont mix.... We have spent hundreds of $$$ on small trees, plants and it was all chewed, our GSD loved to chew the soft wood and ripped them up, dig holes and ate through plastic trellis, you need the wire stuff.... Now our dog is older (20 months) she has stopped digging it up so ive replanted native grasses (no woody trunk for her to chew) and we spray them with taste deterrent... I also put her dog poo in the hole when i plant them and this has worked a treat, she leaves them alone... Best of luck, can you wait until the pup is older to establish a garden??? we had to

DOG POO!! my pup dug up every plant i put in and i have replaced all with native grasses with dog poo underneath every one and she has left them alone.... Give or take one or two i have a garden again

Cool thanks guys will pass it on -
I always thought when I got my first dog it would sleep outside... Now we have her I couldnt put her out in the cold (got her in winter) as she would bark at the possums and i would prefer her to be in guarding us...she sleeps on a bed on the floor in the kitchen. She is outside during the day and in when we get home, we dont have a crate and her toilet training went very smoothly..we also have a cat and they get along fine now, but I wish I had of made them socialise sooner.. best of luck with whatever you decide..

Hi, A friend has a puppy and needs suggestions for puppy class which includes an on-going dog training school near the Point Cook area..... Any suggestions nearby would be appreciated.... thanks in advance!

My German Shepherd was petrified of other dogs at puppy school, she used to hide under the chairs and not come out...we thought we had th runt who was scared of everything.. With a lot of careful socialisation (one on one) she soon became more confident and now is a happy normal and very well socialised 18 month old... Best of luck!

Thanks, been looking into it, I have tried giving her RMB but she hides them in the garden and they rot... Have dropped her back to one meal a day as she isnt eating much so maybe she will be willing to eat whatever we give her... Thinking about giving her dry food with sardines, veges etc then on alternating days Raw meat.. Hope she goes ok on it... Will look at Ian Billinghursts web sites!

Thanks for that cazxxz. I knew about the wagging tail as i used to help out there. Great people, but was wanting a career change in that i didnt wish to do dog grooming any longer. I am now working in an Animal shelter and absolutely loving it. Been there 12 months now. I must check out vic market and victoria street when i am down there next. Anyone else who knows of anything in the north-eastern suburbs of melbourne, I would greatly appreciate you telling us anywhere you know. We went to the Mega Pet warehouse in Ringwood for the first time roady and it was great although its a bit far out... As for wagging tail I grew up in the house only a few doors up from those shops and I didnt even think to try there.... must drop in after work!

GSD mum what is RMB? I agree with the Eukanuba causing ADD thats what she had as a puppy and we took her off it as she was bouncing off the walls.. We bought Zoe raw beef mince today and she loved it! Just not sure how much/often Raw mince we should give her and what to mix with it if anything... What do other people do? Trina what a beautiful looking girl she is and her coat looks great..Do you feed the kibble and 1kg meat each meal once daily?

Boz, Jumping up starts off as cute but down the track can be downright annoying as you know... Our German Shepherd jumped on us and it was so annoying, we tried turning our back and with me she would jump on my back which was not fun.... the only and last solution was to lift my knee and give her a little knock to the chest... it didnt hurt her but gave her a suprise and she never jumped on me again... She now runs toward me, sits and slides into my feet while her bum wriggles uncontollably... It is very cute and she knows I wont pat her until she is sitting and quiet....

You should be able to tell whether pup is alert or attention barking.. With attention barking our GSD used to do it when we wouldnt come outside and play so I just closed the door, closed the curtains and let her have a tanty.... When she was quiet for a bit i opened the curtains and she soon learnt barking wouldnt get me to play with her... I also made sure I told the neighbours that she was going through a barking stage and that I was ignoring for a reason and they understood completely that i wasnt being ignorant on purpose... best of luck...

Thank for all the replies and info guys...

Although her coat looked great on RC she still itched a little but less than she was itching on Proplan... her coat is looking a little oily on EP to be honest... She already has 2 meals a day with chicken mixed in and Im struggling to get her to eat one meal ATM with the weather so upping the amount wont work as she hardly eats what I give her now....

Zoe bench surfed as a pup, we tried lots of things to stop her but it got easier as she got bigger.... For us a squirty bottle filled with vinegar and water did the trick, we gave her a squirt when we caught her and she learnt pretty quick not to do it again....

I have recntly changed my 18 month old GSD to Eagle pack Holistic from RC and have found she has dropped in weght.. I know its been hotter and she isnt eating as much but Im just wondering if anyone else has had issues keeping weight on with EP as she is looking really thin.... Thanks in advance

I emailed them and they got back to me the same day and they sent me heaps of food samples for free.....check their web site...

I had my german shepherd on Proplan salmon sensitive skin and stomach but took her off it as she had the worst case of itchy skin and dandruff i have seen... She was fine before I swapped her over then once I got her off onto Royal Canin the itching stopped.... every dog is different though.

Judi is great... she helped us with our german shepherd when she pulled me down the street.....

Does the Eagle pack flare these up in particular? I was thinking of trying it..... If you can do the BARF thing that would be great... my friends dog has to go onto it just got pancreatitis.... good luck with it.

Runny poos 5 times a day is way too much, get puppy checked at the vets asap.....

Hi! its not silly at all, your cat is a family member also and has to feel comfortable with the changes about to take place.. Our cat was very timid and hid at the other end of the house and came out periodically and we have a baby gate to separate them otherwise the cat wont come out... They are getting much better but If i could do it all again I would just let them be, no forced separation but allow the cat to have a safe place to retreat to and let them interact supervised of course.... remember to have them play together now before pup gets too big and scares the cat... at least now they are more equal in size ..... also use feliway to relax the cat if you have it (the pheremone spray that relaxes them) good luck with it all...

We tried the high pitched yelp too but this just made our pup more excited... Doh! and then she tilted her head and kept on mouthing..
