  1. Im doubtful anyone can fully control on 11 week old puppy off lead... on lead yes.
  2. Glad your pup was unharmed, physically anyway... So this owner said she knew it was dangerous, let it off lead then begged you not to report her but then she let it off lead after you were gone? What a moron..... Im sorry but if it were me I would be reporting her, or as much as I knew of her anyway.... whatever breed it was it should be on lead if it has issues.
  3. Ive never forgotton but was told by a trainer once that it wouldnt hurt for them to go without a meal everynow and then... gives their bowels time to digest properly... The way I see it if dogs are a pack animal, you dont see wolves being fed same time every day
  4. Brooke, I would be gutted if I had to make a choice like that but the dogs best interests are the most important thing as heartbreaking as it would be.. Hoping everything works out and he finds a good home with someone experienced....
  5. Another GSD in suburbia here... I take my girl for 2 walks, a short morning walk and a long off lead run at night... We also do training with her a few times a week but my girl has anxiety issues with us leaving her.... something to watch out for maybe? As long as they are ready for lots of socialisation an training a GSD will make a great addition..
  6. Sorry about your boy.... 16 wow.. Never thought of herbs, Dont know of any herbal vets in melb, maybe i should look into it further... Its mainly the whining, which is more than any dog should, head shaking, excessive licking and if we walk off on her she cant cope.. she just cant handle not being near us.... I feel like a bad mother for even contemplating it
  7. Hello, So my vet has sugggested putting Zoe on a low dose of an anti anxiety medication... She is a very nervous dog and has a tendency to be quite axious especially when it comes to being separated from us.. eg. she isnt eating her tail or anything but whines constantly, twitches her head and generally cant relax if we or the cat (her pack) move rooms.. Anyones dog been on this and has it worked? wondering how it affects the dog...
  8. Im not sure what your feeding your pup but i find some foods like Proplan and Eagle pack natual make my dog itch/scratch constantly so had to change her diet... Just a thought...
  9. 3 blood noses, 2 twisted ankles and leather burn on ankle from lead getting caught and yanking my feet out from under me... Oh and I guess bites from snatching the ball before she knew any better.... Hope you feel better soon..
  10. Hello! I have a rather anxious 2 year old German Shepherd who is very attached to hubby and I and we have booked a holiday in June for 1 week.... We were going to get my sister to house sit but something has come up so we may have to put Zoe in a kennel (never kenelled before) but she hates being locked up. Last time she had to get locked in a cage thing at the vet she had to be sedated so she wouldnt hurt herself trying to scratch out. Although she would be with other dogs for a run a few times a day I am hesistant that her separation issues would make this worse....she is home while we work F/T but once at home she is inside with us every night and on weekends. I saw a "dont fret pet" flyer today, a company that get prescreened dog loving people to mind your dog at your place or theirs... they dont let the off lead but walk them and let them inside if thats what their used to and Im thinking this one on one attention may be better than a cage at the kennel.... Anyone used them or heard anything about them?
  11. My vote would be to bring the dog inside too...
  12. Hey there, Zoe used to do a loud barking run along the fence when we let her out late at night so we now take her out on long lead and she still has her hackles up sometimes as she knows there is "prob" something on the fence or up a tree but if she barks we can bring he in because at 11pm i dont like her waking the neighbours....
  13. Blue Ice, We all go through it, Zoe our German Shepherd was my first dog ever and by 5 months I was about to have a nervous breakdown. We had a trainer come out and told us that our dog had us all figured out and that we werent being firm enough... A lightbulb moment you could say.. I highly recommend someone come out and help you show how to be a firm but gentle leader... When we got mouthed the high pitched yelp just made Zoe more excited and it didnt work so we used vicks vapour rub on our wrists and that helped, we also had to do the boss grip around her mouth which a trainer can show you and she soon learnt who was boss. Good luck and dont give up!
  14. WE buy squeeky balls from reject shop and we rotate treats in 4 different treat balls we bought years ago.... cardboard boxes with treat inside, ice cream containers....
  15. Are nuts ok to give dogs? cashew nuts in particular.... Zoe ate one after I dropped one on the floor by accident and now when I have them she licks her mouth in anticipation for more.... Yes my dog has expensive tastes.....
  16. I just found this one, its a classic... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ficwZQYmRLE
  17. I tried fencing them off but my GSD just jumped over them as she got bigger... puppies and gardens dont really go, until they turn about 2 ;)
  18. So all this time i have been soaking my dogs food because I thought that it "contributed" to them getting bloat and I didnt really have to??? Well I wish I had have known sooner.... I thought thats what everyone did....
  19. You shouldn't have to soak it, the pup is 5.5months old. Mix something with the dry and see how you go first before changing it. Try tuna, sardines, egg, veggies or 1 tea spoon yoghurt im sure there is a big list of other things you could. Try one of each on different nights, then you will see what your pup actually likes. It doesnt matter how old the pup is it can still get bloat and should prob be soaked in water as a precaution.. well thats we have done for almost 3 years...
  20. I tried Proplan but she got a bad case of itchy skin..... She is now on a mix of Eagle pack holistic and royal canin and is doing great..
  21. I ask because my GSD wont eat kibble if its dry... She hated eukanuba so we tried advance and proplan but they didnt agree with her so have found that royal canin mixed with Eagle pack holistic works well for her... It depends what your dog does best on....
  22. Can I assume you are soaking it in water before to feed it? Sorry to ask the obvious but if its dry puppy may not eat it....
  23. Initially Zoe had a bed on the floor in the kitchen but now comes in and sleeps on the floor next to our bed at night then after a while she goes into the lounge where she sleeps on her bed or on the couch which we throw a sheet over during the night. She knows that the couch is out of bounds during the day...
