I use a service called "dont fret pet" where our dog who had never been to a kennel went to a minders house who worked from home so Zoe had one on one care for a whole week!!! She was in my area (eastern Melb) and it worked out great as our girl doesnt like to be alone... www.dontfretpet.com.au

Just out of interest, once the incident is reported to the ranger/council, what then? Do they find the owner and fine her, give her a lecture, get her to pay your medical bills or does it all revolve around how far you being injured wants to take the matter? Im just curious as to how much you can do and what rights the council has to get the owner to make changes?

Should Small And Big Dogs Behave The Same?
charli73 replied to grumpette's topic in General Dog Discussion
This has happened to me a few times where a small dog with not much socialisation with larger dogs runs over to say hi and join in but then gets fearful and runs or caught under the larger dogs feet... I wish there was an easier way All dogs need manners, training and introduced to many other breeds, smaller and larger than themselves... I have a chihuahua at our off lead park who LOVES the bigger dogs and plays with my GSD most days, I wish it were this easy every day. -
Polished Floors Verses Carpet/tiles Best For Dogs
charli73 replied to murraydebbie's topic in General Dog Discussion
Floorboards here and cork tiles in the kitchen area... With only one dog we dont notice the scratches thst much but Im sure theyre there... If I were renovating would never get carpet with pets, one rug is filthy enough, would tile if I could.. -
To All You Fellow Dog Owners - Do You Also Own A Cat?
charli73 replied to Abigail's topic in General Dog Discussion
One cat,a tabby who was here before Zoe came along... We separated them initially but it took years for the cat to not run off when Zoe approached, they are fine together now, even roll around on the floor together for a belly rub although the cat would prefer if she were an only child Mostly we have to stop Zoe following the cat everywhere and her constant need to see if she smells the same as 5 minutes ago.... -
Does Your Oh Allow Your Dog/s To Sleep On The Bed?
charli73 replied to Abigail's topic in General Dog Discussion

I found many 'dog friendly' places said dogs outisde only or by appt only... Thats not pet friendly in my opinion..... I found a few great places in Aireys Inlet but such a long drive...

Weve been to Lilydale lake also, its great there... Closer to us is Gardners Creek in Burwood/Box Hill South area, thats a great walk with lots of room for dogs to run....

I went in blind also, German Shepherd first dog ever but I thought I knew what to expect. How wrong I was, everyone said it would be great training for kids! I cried with the toilet mess in the mornings and although she learnt pretty quick it was the general daily destruction of my garden and outdoor furniture etc that upset me the most.. At 5 months we had a trainer come out with GSD experience and told us she had US trained and from then on everything changed. We were the ones who needed training. We loved obedience because she was so damn good at it and easy to train, but definately not an easy family dog but well worth every minute of hard, hard work! I just love her

Ideas For Ways To Bond More With My Dog
charli73 replied to FranVT's topic in General Dog Discussion
Fran, She is GORGEOUS!! Dont feel bad, Zoe my GSD is my first puppy and I there have been heaps of time where Ive thought she didnt like me... She doesnt sleep in our room, prefers to be in the lounge, hates to be cuddled, wont let me hug her and generally is very aloof and prefers to do her own thing as long as Im near by as long as she know where I am....but If I leave she cracks it! Im home sick for a few weeks and although she comes to check on me periodically she would rather go find out what the cat is up to and chew on her raw hide... Dont feel bad, that bond will grow over time, and doing cool stuff together as she gets older will help that, but isnt it better she is a little more independant for when you do have to work longer hours?? Dont feel bad, I guess some dogs just have different personalities.. -
Pup Returning After 1st Night! Unbelievable.
charli73 replied to moosmum's topic in General Dog Discussion
No need to be ashamed, I had a total breakdown when Zoe was a pup, I would walk into the kitchen, see poo, wee and chewed items fro bench surfing and broke down into tears.... I thought it was just me -

I And My Dog Can't Sleep At Night :-((((
charli73 replied to GSDowner's topic in General Dog Discussion
Our friends bought a house which had a whole family of possums in the roof, one who would climb around the main bedroom once they went to sleep. They are in Mitcham and got Pete the possum man out too during day time hours who put that one way door in where one of the tiles goes and put food outside to entice them out... they were getting in near the chimney where they had lifted up the chimney sweep and helped themselves.... They are territorial and are reluctant to move esp if they have young possums but guarantee to get rid of them which is a bonus.... -
Oooh can I please put in for 3 large, 2 medium and 1 small? Im in Melb too....
-
Slighty Off topic.... Can I make a suggestion? I love to have my large dog off lead too esp as a pup but maybe get yourself a long lead so that the dog has more room to move too but you also have the ability to reel him in when needed, they are great for recalls too...
