  1. Thanks everyone for all the replies.
  2. Normally I would just not handle but it's an away show and it's helping out a friend in need of handlers. I will stay out as much as possible but depending on who wins what and how thier owner is feeling health wise on the day, I may be needed. Do you mean like they were judging group 6 and you were showing in group 3? I don't see how it would be a conflict - they aren't judging your dogs and may not even know you are there showing? Showing in SA means we don't have the luxury of more than one show on per weekend - there are no other shows unless we want to go interstate. ETA: I would not enter under this judge with my own dogs of any breed. I have been asked now once entries are in if I will be able to help as I don't believe their normal handler is going to these shows. I will of course explain to the dog's owner the situation first, but wanted to check that if they desperately need me, that going in the ring with a dog for a run off or the like would not get them or myself in trouble. Thanks for the replies.
  3. Does it? What sort of time frame?
  4. Thanks, I thought so but thought I'd better check.
  5. You own a dog bred by Mrs Judge, can you handle someone else's dog (different breed, different group) under that judge?
  6. The "Scroodle" looks more like a Welsh or Aierdale.
  7. One more goal completed - I got my prefix! And first choice too.
  8. First things first is he likely needs a bucket load more exercise and mental stimulation (I'm assuming he has minimal/no training sessions). See if you can talk the BF out of flea powder and on to something better. You need to set boundaries with your boyfriend, sit down and explain that you don't like Scooby on the bed and on the couch. His barking may cause issues with neighbours and you may get council knocking on your door. Install a doggy door if possible and next time he's at the vets mention the 3x a night stuff, better to be safe than sorry. Two desexed dogs can't "do it", it's more behavioural. Dogs only mate to reproduce, if they are both fixed there is no longer the drive to mate, thus mounting each other is not about sex at all but more about dominance or habit. Pushing him into the pool is very immature and stupid in my opinion when the dog doesn't like it, how does he feel about the dog? Does he like the dog? Pushing it into the pool if he is scared is like sticking the average person with needles, he hates it obviously. Pushing him in won't make him like it, more the opposite. If he loves his dog make this point clear - he is terrorising the poor thing by chucking him in the pool! If he doesn't seem to care maybe the dog needs to be rehomed with somone who does care. You sound like a smart woman and are on the right track yourself but you need to get your boyfriend to change his habits for anything much to improve.
  9. We are hoping to breed our next dog. But if that wasn't the case it would be an Aussie Shepherd or Irish Terrier to show and possibly breed from, from reg breeders who happen to be listed on DOL but are also all great friends. DOL hasn't changed where I would get a dog from but it has made me talk to others about where to get their next dog from.
  10. I'm sure it's just a silly oversight! Would love Wheaties to be on the Irish Terrier day. And I would LOVE to see some WSSDs!
  11. Bout 4 and half hours drive from Adelaide - sometimes less. A bit far just to see the suburb my deseased uncle used to live! It's not a suburb, more a large country town/centre. Haven't been there myself though.
  12. Will be there on Friday 3rd with the Aussies, Irish are the same day but it depends on when little-miss comes into season. Planning on doing the Sunday again with Holly! Sheriden - that's odd! Pappy - do both!
  13. Schedule is out! http://www.theshow.com.au/showground/royal...dog-judging.jsp So who's coming?
  14. I love DOL because I love chatting to like-minded people. I love showing my girls and want to breed in the future and have found the show ring forum and the breeders' community especially helpful. I love the Aussie Shepherd thread and have met some great friends through here, as well as through the forum in general. I'm currently house/dog sitting for a great friend who I met on here actually! I have learnt so much about diet and training too. Oh and the member marketplace! Have bought some great gifts for doggy people through the commercial marketplace and picked up some great bargins for myself. Gotta love DOL!
  15. Several chipped teeth from boofy Poppers. Also a blood nose from our old AmStaffX. Dog related but not really the dogs fault - both my brother and I went to Holly's crate for some reason (was during dinner so there must have been a reason) and he knelt down, I was standing up but leaning over him to have a look. He stood up quickly and slammed his head into my chin. I couldn't chew for a few days and couldn't talk that night without a fair bit of pain! My jaw clicks as it is but the days following that incident were terrible. Bruises from dogs at work, fallen over some beds as dogs have rushed past and twinged my always-sore hip. A couple of small "warning" bites, usually a small dog. Cats at work are worse though! And not nearly as predictable as dogs.
  16. As others have said, Border Terriers may suit. If socialised properly they should be sociable little creatures. Gracie in my sig is a Border Terrier. The look isn't for everyone, and you would need to purchase something like a Mars Coat King and give their coat a run over with it every 2 weeks or so. Great watchdogs but would lick anyone to death once they are inside the house/yard. I am currently house sitting for a friend and she has 2 Border Terriers, they are FANTASTIC dogs. Sleep on the bed, happy easy dogs to be around. A great sized, robust little dog with great personalities. Not everyone likes the feel of the coat or the look though. :D
  17. We are happy campers, we managed to title a dog at Naracoorte with an 11 point BOB. Riley will now be known as Ch Tuscamada PoetryNMotion.
  18. Oh Christine, like you said Duke was being a typical terrier and the cat was in HIS yard! Stupid bloody neighbour, good idea to contact the ranger and have a chat so they have your side of the story straight should it turn sour. That's BS about them being an issue to his kids, being Irish I assume they aren't out offlead? And it wouldn't matter anyway, kids are not seen as prey. I feel for you, we felt terrible when our old Irish killed a chook that came into our yard. Couldn't imagine if it had been a cat. I'm sorry this has happened to you.
  19. Beat me to it! This dog was the one I was thinking of when I read the OP.
  20. Yeah there are showers there ozstar. When I went they weren't the best but I think there's a new toilet block built, not sure if it had showers too.
  21. Sunday looks like reasonable weather so far, Sat looks a bit warm.
