  1. I love all three of our purebred's breeders for a variety of reasons. Gracie's we didn't really keep in contact with until we started showing and now we see her most weekends so let her know how Gracie is doing. We set up together recently too and she's so wonderful and full of knowledge. We have kept in contact with Ruby's breeder since we had our old girl Bridget from her, but since getting Ruby she is easily a family friend. I have house/dog sat for her and we see each other for birthdays and parties. Very much a friend. Mum and her talk at least once a week, usually more, on the phone. And Holly's breeder, well! She's awesome but I have to say that cause she's a member on here. No, she is very much a friend and again often rings or I ring her. I handle her dogs too so that helps with staying close. Holly is co-owned so any major decisions with her goes through her breeder first. I feel I have really good relationships with all them but showing and wanting to breed in the future has helped give us stay in contact too.
  2. I howl and Poppy howls back. I make whimpering noises then build up to a howl. Started teaching her it when she was really excited (near walk time for example) but now she does it whenever I howl at her.
  3. Black tri! Gayle is getting his GORGEOUS brother who is also a black tri. I love the boy Gayle is getting and if we could keep a dog he would have been my pick! Very glad he's going to such an awesome home where he will get a chance to hit the show ring. My new girl, Bree at 6 weeks! She'll hit the ring in about 6 weeks!
  4. I think a pointee will need to call my house home one day, I love the look and have always loved the sound of their personality. Love the solids! Wish there were more around. I agree!! Wooow, what a stunning Aussie you have! ;) I have only met... a few Aussies in my lifetime but I know they are definitely the breed for me. I actually saw an Aussie walking in my town the other and nearly jumped out of the car seat haha! He was so gorgeous... My much kind of gave me a ;) look. :D Thanks, I think she's just the most gorgeous dog in the whole world but I'm biased! Dotty, another member on here has her "little twinnie" who is 1/2 sister from the same breeder and is almost identical to Holly in look. Her twinnie sounds more intellegent than mine though! :p There's often Aussies out a dog shows, if you have the time it might be a good chance to meet some Aussies if you popped out to a dog show! There's also the Vic Aussie Shep Specialty on during the Melbourne cup weekend which is an awesome chance to see HEAPS of Aussies! I am the same if I see an Aussie on the street! Although I'm worse with Irish Terriers (my mum's breed and my 'other' breed) because they are pretty rare. I'm very excited as my newest Aussie is 6ish weeks old at the moment! She's looking very cute in pictures and I'm looking forward to seeing her Sunday!
  5. Aussie Shepherds are my breed! :D What's not to love? What initially drew me to the breed was the coat and the colours. I love that each Aussie can have such a range of marking. What is going to keep me in the breed is their personalities. I love that they just adore being with you, they can be go go go all day with you if that's what you want to do but they love to curl up and snooze at your feet if you study all day. I love the fact they get along well with other dogs, teaching them news things is easy and the can be trusted off lead. I love the whole body wiggles that occur when they are happy.
  6. Dogcity is run by a lovely young couple who used to board their GSD at the kennels I work at. One of the girls I used to work with now works there full time and she's amazing with animals.
  7. Great to hear of some improvement. Thanks for the updates. Thinking of you Jed and your family. Miss you on here!
  8. Missing your words of wisdom Jed. Thinking of everyone involved. Thanks for the updates.
  9. Come and say hi in the Aussie thread! We would be more than happy to answer your questions and Aussie admirers are always welcome! Counldn't agree more with this. If you go with an Aussie, get the breeder's help in selecting a calmer pup. My bitch Aussie is the easiest dog we have ever owned, and no where near full on. :D After showing them for a couple of different people, the boys are bigger cuddlers in general and some girls can be full on but so can some boys. I would pick a pup based on it's temperament not it's sex. The most full on Aussie I have met was a male, the most chilled a bitch. There are extremes in both sexes. As I said about though, the boys TEND to be a bit cuddlier in my experience, in general.
  10. Looks pure AmStaff to me, like others said you can get tri colours but I don't think you are allowed to show them. Gorgeous looking boy. What a dipsh*t ranger.
  11. It seems to be a gap in vets knowledge because I've never had a vet even know about ivermectin sensitivity. And it's in collie types as well as collies (Aussie Shepherds are from the collie family). Yes. Be very careful, ivomectin is in a few things. Dog/s only need to be DNA profiled to aleviate any concerns. Check out ivermectin sensitivity and MDR1 on the net. Like BB said there is a DNA test that is available if you want to spend the money to see if your dog carries the gene to be sensitive to these drugs, or you can just stay away from certain drugs.
  12. Maybe the stacked pic of the dog was worth it!
  13. Talked to the Adelaide Veterinary Student Association and we are going to try and get together some money to donate. We are a bit strapped for money too but will do what we can and try and get donations from vet and animal science students. Money is what's needed now isn't it? No physical things for the dogs yet?
  14. Thank you for the photos of the survivors. Made me smile to know some got out ok, and they sound like they are in great hands! Thank goodness some of her babies are ok and she will have them to cuddle and hold when she is well again. Thank goodness Jane is still alive herself too, for one thing we need people like her in the dog world. I really respect her posts and she has always, always stood out to me on the forums. Anything she says I sit up and take notice, I have so much respect for her.
  15. I am so, so angry that something like this can happen, and then Magnus on top of everything. I just want to scream and yell, it's not fair, why do things like this happen to good people and wonderful dogs? I know, what the heck was with that picture? I sure wouldn't be smiling or posing if I had been there...? Maybe a bad picture or something, who knows. Maybe he was happy they got out. Still, it's a bit worthy.
  16. FTPO, everyone has said what I think, you were helping in the best way you knew how. And you haven't done any damage, no harm has been done. We all thought he was missing and many would have done the same if we could have. Thank you from the rest of us. RIP Magnus. I can't believe you are gone too.
  17. I thought it was illegal? Must not be. Any way to see if the RSPCA will give them a call and have a chat to them? I know it's a long shot...
  18. Thank you for updating us Toohey and Steve, very, very much appreciated.
  19. Oh God. Jed we are all thinking about you and your family including the animals, both alive and passed. I can't believe this has happened to you. I just don't know what to say. My pay should go through on Friday and I will be donating what I can. I would love to help out in any other way I can too.
  20. We have gone from pet owners to hopefully breeding our first litter later this year. We have owned the breed as a family for around 20 years now. Several years ago we added Ruby to our family firstly as a pet with the chance to show her, which we have done. We have shown her to her title and she has done very well under specialist judges. We applied for our prefix and lukily we got our first preference. With the support of Ruby's breeder we have been researching stud dogs and are now down to a couple of choices. Final decisions are being made at the moment. Jane would need to purchase a bitch from a respected show and breeding kennels with the intention to show it. She should do her research and pick very carefully the lines she wants as this bitch may be her foundation. She then needs to show it with the help of her mentor/s. She needs to research, research, research online (looking at different lines), by talking to others within her state, the country and the world and by reading as many breed specific and canine structure books as possible. All relevant health testing should be done. Then she can get her prefix. Now she starts reading all she can about breeding. She also needs to find a vet she trusts! IF her bitch is suitable, she should then get help from her mentor in selecting the right stud dog. She needs to remember she should only be breeding to better the breed. Once the stud dog is selected she contacts stud dog owner and the rest is pretty obvious.
  21. I thought vet clinics had to be owned by vets or has that changed in the last 10 years? I believe it's changed. I can't believe they didn't refund the money immediately however I do see the point in them swiping the card initially if they have been stung before.
  22. I am still trying to talk LMWS into sending one of them to me for Adelaide, it is only a couple of weeks before Melbourne. I would love to see them. I don't think I'll get to Melbourne, I don't have the money. :D
  23. :D Now PLEASE tell me they will come over for the Adelaide Royal? Would LOVE to see them!
