Going back a couple of pages, as far as health testing for Aussies: Hips and elbows DNA for CEA, HC and MDR1 Puppy and adult eye tests BAER testing isn't done although I would get it done if I had a dog with a predominantly white head.

I think that both breeds would have individuals that would suit you and plenty that wouldn't. Just try and meet as many as you can while you are making up your mind and in the end go with your heart. I think that now you have narrowed it down to two breeds it might be more about finding the right pup instead of the right breed.

Same here. I was purely talking about genetics. And because they can't be registered as chocolate merles doesn't mean they aren't called that by breeders/BC people in discussion surely?

Well sort of as far as border collies, but you have to know how to understand the registered colours. Ok... What I meant was that here in Australia, what are called chocolates in BCs are the same colour as 'reds' in Aussies. They have the red/brown noses. Reds in BCs have black noses yes? So how did I 'sort of' get it right/wrong? :p

Yeah red merle is the right terminology. :p Red in Aussies equals chocolate in BCs.

Haylz - I think you would be best to try and meet more Aussies, especially some doing agility and obedience. I think finding the right breeder in either breed is important and making sure they know what you want to do with the dog. Let them know you don't want a dominant dog. A good breeder should be happy and willing to help you out and help with picking the right puppy for you.

Lowchens are gorgeous, I work at a boarding kennel and the owner breeds and shows Dallies too and recently got 2 Lowchens, I love the little guys! Awesome personalities! I know nothing about their conformation but I love it when I get asked to brush them out. They are gorgeous. I love Sayly because it's short and meant something. I couldn't think of anything decent for ages so was really happy when I came up with Sayly.

Mine is Sayly. It's a mix of the end of my name and Holly's name. Mum got hers at a similar time and got Rozebridge which is a combination of our two Irish girls, Bridget and Ruby-Rose. Sucks you didn't get your first preference. But I'm sure it won't take long to get to love Wyntervale, especially once you use it! Is it for Affies or Lowchens or both?

It's a lovely sounding prefix! I recently got mine and it's so exciting!

I got the same email. You have to have something to advertise, is a judge really going to look at a dog that's done stuff all winning, when all there is in the ad is a pic of a dog and no wins to mention? What would you be advertising? Do I agree with it, no and good judges shouldn't be influenced by who can afford to advertise. I have put Ruby in the DNA diary because we felt proud of her achievements and wanted to share it. We didn't expect it to increase her winning and I don't believe it has. Her brother was also in there and has hardly been shown this year. Not all advertising is for the judges, I have nothing against it but I don't think judges should be swayed by it. And I don't think it should have been written in the email!!!

Thanks. We only had him for 3 months but he's left such a mark on us all. He was awesome, everything, perfect. I wouldn't have changed a thing about him, except maybe his curiosity which lead to his death.

I will PM you. They aren't expensive for purebreds, they tend to be easy whelpers with nice sized litters and we only have cystinuria to test for. Plus they are incredibly healthy and live for a while! Average for our girl's line is about 14 years.

He got out Saturday afternoon when my parents went out and no one realised. He got into the back yard and Poppy and/or Ruby killed him. I can't look at either of them. I think I know who did it but my parents think it was the other one/both. He didn't have a mark on him, I wonder if they played too rough. They had all played together inside under supervision fine but had never been together un-supervised. I'm so angry.

Snickers, my little man, my little boy. I’ve never had a heart dog but you were my heart cat. I adored you my little man and there will never be another like you. I’m so sorry we failed you. I’m so sorry I wasn’t home to save you. You were so gorgeous, inside and out. So confident, happy , adoring. You gave the best cuddles and snuggles and I loved it when you gently patted my face with your paws. You were such an individual. You even sucked eyelids you funny little dude. You weren’t on this earth for long but you made such a huge impact. We will all miss you. My little rescue boy, I will always love you. Rest in peach my gorgeous little man. You have left a huge hole in my heart and I will always be sorry.

There are 6 varieties: Standard longhair Standard smooth Standard wirehair Mini longhair Mini smooth Mini wirehair There is a fair bit of size difference. Standards aren't small dogs, they just have small legs, have you ever picked one up? Edited for grammar AND spelling.
