  1. A certain DOLer had a pug called Gherkin. I don't think you can get a better name for a Pug! :D She also has a Peach which suits her red merle Aussie perfectly. Dotty where are you?
  2. We don't have that issue with Aussies, they wiggle their whole butts and in some cases the whole body in several different directions at once. No doubt when a NBT/docked Aussie is happy! :D Haha, that is so true! Especially Holly! She has a massive wiggle. She's awesome but you should see Maizie at home, she bends in the middle and then each end wiggles seperately to the other end. She doesn't do it much at shows. We don't have that issue with Aussies, they wiggle their whole butts and in some cases the whole body in several different directions at once. No doubt when a NBT/docked Aussie is happy! The most I get is a toothy grin before she licks me but otherwise that's about it when she's in a good mood! Awww! I love grinners. Holly is a grinner but she's my only Aussie so far who grins.

  4. I have two previously docked breeds, the Irish Terriers used to have about a 1/3 removed and the Aussies the whole thing. I prefer the look of both breeds docked for sure, but have gotten used to the longer tail on the Irish and I don't even think about it now. The Aussies have a bob tail gene so we often get bob tailed puppies in a litter. All of mine have so far been bob tails but I'm sure it won't be long before I have a tailed Aussie. I prefer the bob/docked look but I don't mind a nice tail on an Aussie Shepherd. By nice I mean a full tail (we can get any length tail from almost nothing through long bobs, half tails, nearly complete tails and full tails and I don't like the look of partial tails). And I don't like tails that curl up over the back like a spitz. There's a bitch here who is shown occasionally with a gorgeous tail, her owner knows I would steal her if she gave me half a chance!
  5. Don't put too much pressure on yourself. Let the steward and judge know it is your and your pup's first time in the ring and if your baby is naughty or you do something wrong you aren't the first person to have it happen and you won't be the last. Even experience people stuff up. Don't forget that if your baby gets baby of breed then you will need to stay for baby in group which is done just after best in group!
  6. Got my envelope back today and numbers for a change! Somehow I have 4 numbers for 1 dog over two days? If you get stuck nightgrace I have a blue merle adult Aussie with one blue eye and one brown eye and the only baby red merle. My name is Lyndsay. Good luck and have fun! My babies are always naughty.
  7. Mt Crawford is good and my dogs love going. I'm very lucky and only live 5mins away.
  8. We don't have anything back yet either and talking to people on the weekend it seems like its everyone so don't stress too much! Will keep my eye out for you, I have several Australian Shepherds.
  9. Fingers crossed she's ok Pappy. Healing vibes coming from down here.
  10. Plush Puppy or Glo White here depending on my budget at the time. The best thing to do is see if others in your breed can give you an idea on what works best on your own breed as different shampoos work better on different coats.
  11. I'm not the best at explaining directions but if you put "University of Adelaide Roseworthy Campus" into google maps it should give you a good idea.
  12. I love a range of looks and a range of personalities, from the gorgeous, people loving, people pleasing, easy to get along with Aussie Shepherds to the scruffier, prey driven, why should I do what you want me to Terriers. I adore both and I'll continue to have Aussies and Irish (and hopefully add a purebred Bull Terrier one day), but if I was forced to have only one breed it would be the Aussies, nothing beats them. I have grown up with Irish Terriers and bull breed cross breds but the Aussies have only been around for the last 2 or so years. I stumbled across them on the internet and fell in love with the look and so researched, researched, researched. I then was lucky enough to start handling some at shows for a couple of different breeders and now have my own girl and several co-owned with their breeder. So I agree with Cassie that looks are important, that is what will immediately draw you to a breed or group of breeds. You then need to do plenty of research into what that breed requires and if are you capable of giving them what they need. You need to ask yourself if you are going to include major changes to fit around the new dog are you willing to do that for the next 10-15 years or even longer.
  13. Was this a Scam bub? How can someone not bond with one of them! I think you have been more than fair. Glad to hear she is settling in well, I think the Aussie thread needs pics though!
  14. Other than a good judge, I like: Good toilets (and showers if camping). Nice stewards and comittee who don't take your head off. Competition! Enough room for setting up so more than 5 people get ringside spots.
  15. Go Moo PC! I'm super excited about Terrier Club, we might have four Irish too! Halo's first show out the steward looked at her list and went "oh gosh, there's two of you!" Not that we're competing against Ella yet seeing as Halo is a baby. She's the best steward!
  16. We are getting our Irish back into show coat (which isn't incredibly easy and takes some time, roughly 6 weeks from start to finish) simply because a friend with an Irish is hitting the ring soon and we are so excited about having some competition. Ask most people with rare breeds and they would LOVE more competition. If we had more competition in the ring each week we would show Ruby more often, but there's not much point keeping her in show coat when she's now up in Aust Bred/Open which usually gets knocked out by the BIG/Ru winners anyway. Having no competition because you have a rare breed is very different to going out of your way to get 6 pointers in a popular breed. Sure it looks the same on the title certificate but the difference is YOU know, the owner, and after all it comes down to YOU deciding whether that dog is good enough to be bred from.
  17. The same thing would happen if it was made that rare breeds receive no points for not beating anything. We just do not have the numbers in a whole heap of breeds for much competition here in Austalia. 6 or 7 point challenges are it the majority of the time, and not by choice for most of us! Each and every judge has to sign their name that each and every challenge winner is worthy of their champion title.
  18. Corgi pups are gorgeous! Rory had a big play with a baby Cardi a couple of weeks ago and the pup's ears were HUGE! Super cute.
  19. Same with us Flick, I think we've only had about 4 lectures so far though and pracs are later in the semester for my group, but I'm finding this thread and the other one very interesting!
  20. Oh yeah, Bully babies are up there with the cutest too!
  21. I have to agree that Chow babies are just gorgeous!
