  1. Moses runs well in bad weather. We prefer it to the heat.
  2. Tia was exactly the same. I would "click" and then have to find the dog to give a treat. So what I did was only ever hand feed her for a week and between each bit of food she got a click. I think Ian Dunbar uses this method with puppy's, hand feeding all their food for a week. This is what fixed it for her.
  3. You could start off just by teaching him to catch. Go here for instructions. http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=7358
  4. Yep the poodle actually sped up towards the last two jumps!!! Are you sure Teka is not a flatcoat retriever cross?? That is typical flatcoat behaviour. To flatcoats everyone is a friend and deserves to be licked. I actually like the new point system, it doesn;t matter what team you are in as long as your team is reliable.
  5. I like Teeka looks like a mini version of Josh. We measured Todd and Moses up against each other they are the same height and colour. Todd is a very pretty looking toller. Moses got carded before the race even started. He ran over the jumps as the person holding him let him go before I got to the end and then he knew the timing table had lovely sandwiches and he thought he would partake!! Typical food obsessed dog.
  6. One of my dogs used to drop and then rollover straight away, because I was too caught up in the pattern. You will also notice a lot of obedience dogs run and sit in front of the handler and then do the finish without waiting to be told or some dogs run back to the handler and don't bother with the sit in front like they should and go straight around to heel. A lot of dogs with signals exercises will do a sit or drop without waiting for the signal because they know whats coming next.
  7. I would teach the tricks in different orders. Maybe sometimes just ask for sit and leave it at that. Some times just drop, sometimes sit and then paw, sometimes drop then sit and nothing. Keep mixing it up then you will reduce the anticipation. But I think anticipation is a good thing, it shows the dog wants to work, nothing worse than a dog who is unmotivated. You can teach tricks to dogs at any age, check out my video youtube channel and you will see the different ages I taught tricks. Some assistance dogs start there training at 5 weeks old.

    Handstand

I found it on next door neighbours front lawn during hard rubbish collection. It has a soft brown cushion on the top of it.
  9. I love watching the really fast non working breed dogs. Cassie the golden retriever is amazing, love her running style. Bear did really well, he is a well built dog.

    Handstand

It is sort of a foot stool (pooof) sort of thing.
  11. Moses ran a 4.7 yesterday his best ever!!!!! Now 2Tollers team is giving her a hard time, because they think that Tod should be able to run just as fast because he is the same breed from the same lines!!!! Today he ran slower, I think he was over it and so was I. Maybe the catnip in his toy rat ran out!!! But was a very interesting weekend. It was a little cool this morning in my tent. Tia got to meet her interstate relatives.
  12. I put a harness on Moses once and didn't like it and didn't want to run.
  13. Moses runs really well in wet weather, maybe its his webbed feet giving him an advantage!!!
  14. Okay I play the two toys game, and also let the dog keep it. To see what I mean look at these videos. These are my border collie. Also only do a couple of retreives and finish before the dog gets bored. The fun you get to keep it retrieve, I learnt this from the Springloaded flyball DVD. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJwhZxm2_6g The two toys game. I found this method at http://www.k9events.com
  15. Check out the dog trick section on DOL most of the tricks show you how to use the clicker. Here is the wave one/high ten http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...40#entry1384710 I actually use the clicker to reward with food, and the "YES" to reward with a toy. I also use a "no reward marker" such as "Nuh" in a quiet voice to let the dog know he is not on the right track and try again. Another good foundation exercise is the shirley chong retrieve. Its sets out all the steps for you. Here is a video of Tia doing it. Check out the retrieve section under dog tricks.
  16. Do you need any help with the ring set up at Ballarat? I have the whole of Friday off, was supposed to work but got a certificate for 3 days sick leave starting from Wednesday. (off on stress).
  17. I once used to walk a female jack russell who used to do a hand stand up against a tree!!! Was so funny.
  18. Another funny thing that Tia does, is when she takes a "leak" she squats down and lifts one of her hind legs at the same time. Will have to video it, anybody else's border do this? With Tia when I brush her around her legs she tends to lift the hind leg up in the air. I might be taking her to Ballarat with me for the flyball comp. I see some dogs go nuts at flyball and they run slow, I am talking like over 8 seconds. Moses and Josh know that they don't get released until the returning dog is over the second jump, and I have said Ready, Set, Go. My dogs favourite sport is lure coursing, Moses just about drags me into the ring, and then he dives into the tunnel at the end trying to get that plastic bag.
  19. With Moses I hold him lightly near his hips before releasing him, and for Josh I just have a hand at the side of his hip. I do this as I prefer not to put pressure around their throat, by holding on to their collars. Both of my dogs don't bark, nor jump around whilst waiting to be released. So this method is easy to do. I don't use flyball harnesses, because its just one more thing I have to bother with. I was going to try this method with Tia, but have discovered she has a funny little quirk. If you touch her near her hind leg, she raises it in the air. Very funny. Anyone ever had a dog do this? I think it might be a reflex action. I had someone else holding her and I looked back and she was waiting to be released standing on three legs. Here is a video to show you what I mean. My husband is laughing in the background, he finds it highly amusing. I am hardly touching her at all. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrNrbZRGOVo Once before she went herding, during the vet check she raised up her hind leg so they could check her out. Is this a border collie thing?
  20. In Victoria it is illegal. But they have a special exemption for the ET. I don';t think anyone would fine you for it unless you caused an accident. I have all 3 dogs down to the park off lead whilst I ride the bike. Great when its raining, and you want to exercise the dogs quickly. My border collie is busy trying to round up the flatcoated retriever and doesn't worry about me on the bike. http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/NR/rdonlyre...1/0/part_18.pdf 301. Leading an animal while driving a vehicle A person must not lead an animal while driving a motor vehicle or riding a bicycle. Penalty: 1 penalty unit. Note Bicycle is defined in the dictionary, and motor vehicle is defined in the Road Safety Act 1986. Road Rules - Victoria r. 299
  21. http://synalia.com/overview-of-sats-bridge-and-target/ There was a lady called Kayce Cover who came out a few years ago, and she taught duration by doing bridge and target training. I found it a bit complicated but read the above link. I remember about something where you move your hand towards the dog or slightly vibrate it and keep saying a letter such as "x" continually while the dog is doing what you want. I remember something intermediate bridges etc. Like I said I found it very confusing. So read the above link.
  22. Just follow the shirley chong method, all the steps are set out, wait until the dog has met the criteria for one step until going to the next step.
  23. Don't train a dog until it is 6 months old.
