Going around the cone.
-
Starting to edge closer to the cone for a tight turn.
-
Approaching the cone. Has his tail up high, like a kite. This breed does this when they are happy.

Teach Your Dog to Go Around an Object Uses : Great for teaching a flyball Swimmers Turn/ Also to teach your dog to go around a piece of agility equipment Equipment Needed : Motivating Dog Toy and or food, obstacle Step 1. Take out your obstacle, (I used a cone) preferably something of a good size, could even be a bucket, small bin, cardboard box, (but not a can, too small). Place the obstacle out in the open. Dog is off lead. Step 2. If you are going to teach the dog to go around clockwise, stand facing the object, put out your left hand extended from your body and using the lure, get the dog to follow it around the cone. Step 3. Once the dog is doing this, start to fade the lure. I have found that I lured my dog with the toy, as he came around the cone I faced the opposite direction to him and threw the toy. You can use food for a non toy motivated dog. Step 4. Keep giving the hand signal, add your cue word "around" and then throw the toy once the dog has come around the cone. Start working further and further away from the cone. Once the dog can do it from six feet away go to the next step. Step 5. If you want tight corners, you can start adding the object into the corner. So the dog has to do a tight turn and builds muscle memory. This took me about 1 week to teach my dog, with one 5 minute session a day. ADVANCED I then took my dog inside, and put him in the rumpus room and held him and looked at the clothes horse and said "Around" and he went around. So you can start trying it out with other objects as well and greater distances. I found this trick at http://www.k9station.com/turns2.htm and found it has more uses than just teaching a swimmers turn. To see a video of it in action goto http://www.k9events.com/Jules_Photos/index.html Here are some photos attached. My dog loves this game. In this picture I have just let go of my dog, I gently restrain him by holding his hips, so this way there is no pressure on the neck.

Paw is getting higher. It looks like he is saluting. So funny!!!
-
Moses also does it with a worried look on his face. He offers this behaviour a lot.
-
This is an advanced move, the dog is actually swiping at his eye. I say what is in your "eye", and he swipes at his eye, also looks like a wave.
-
Just starting to complete the spin.
-
Halfway around.
-
Moses doing Spin. He is just starting to turn.
-
This is another roll.
-
Another photo, here he is lying on his back doing the roll. He looks like someone shot him. Notice that his eyes are closed. Really needs that tail for balance.
-
Here is the next part of the trick. He is just starting to roll over. Note that his head, is pointed where his body is going. He also uses his tail for balance.
-
Here is Moses doing the roll over. He is just starting to get into position rather quickly. I experimented with just saying roll over first without the drop. I think he actually tried to start doing it without the drop, so a rollover from stand position.

The views on the tricks went way down, and no one was replying to the tricks, so figured people must not be interested any more.

Drawer is fully open, now what. This dog is 11 months old.
-
You can see the type of scrunchie I have used.

This is the final trick, due to lack of interest. Also I am busy teaching new tricks and perfecting old tricks. Have taught my dog to rub his eye with his paw, when I say "what is in your eye?". Also I will start concentrating on some jumping tricks now that my dog is getting older. Anybody else is welcome to start posting tricks of their own. Open Drawer/Door Uses Good party trick, used for assistance dogs, can also be used as part of another trick such as retrieve an article out of a closed drawer and then the dog closes the drawer when finished. To see this trick in (video) motion go to http://www.k9events.com/Jules.html Equipment Needed Dog, treats, clicker, hair scrunchie, or piece of rope Method When I taught my dog this trick, I based the method on Shirley Chongs clicker retrieve but used it on a drawer instead. I taught both of my dogs to do a formal retrieve using the above method.http://www.shirleychong.com/keepers/retrieve.html I also watched the bow wow video tape. Step 1. (Not essential) See if your dog likes to play tug, get him playing tug and use a command. I use "tuggy tuggy". Step 2. (If your dog does not play tug go straight to this step). Put a hair scrunchie or similar on the drawer, (do not use anything smaller than a hair scrunchie, we want to make it easy for the dog). Step 3. Put the dog (offlead) in front of the drawer, have drawer slightly open. When the dog looks at the scrunchie, click and treat. Repeat 10 times. When the dog can do this 10 times, you are ready for Step 4. Step 4. Withold the click, and wait for the dog to offer something else, such as touching the drawer with his nose. The dog will probably look at the drawer and then look at you and then look at the drawer again and try something different. Reward these nose touches. When the dog is touching the drawer ten times in a row with its nose, it is time for Step 5. Step 5. With hold the click and wait for the dog of offer something else, could be just putting the scrunchie in his mouth. Click and treat this. Test is when the dog can do it 10 times move to the next step. Step 6. Wait for strong pulls of the drawer, once the dog is pulling the drawer, push the drawer all the way in. You now have a dog who can open drawers. This trick took my dog a couple of sessions to master. I found that when I put a toy inside the drawer he was super keen to open the drawer. ADVANCED Conbine this trick with open drawer/door and teach the dog to retrieve a toy out of the drawer, then get the dog to close the drawer/door afterwards. I taught my dog this, and he got so enthusiastic that he pulled the drawer off the track. He loves retrieving. For help with retrieving see link above. Trouble Shooting Won't my dog now start opening all the doors and cubboards? You only let your dog open doors/drawers that have scrunchies attached to them.

Thanx for that, that is a great idea. )

An example of what can be done with a paw target.
-
Josh has just jumped from an enbankment and is landing in the water. What an entry!!!
-
That is excellent. That is how I started, only opened door a smidge and clicked when door closed, then repeated that a few times, and gradually opened door a little bit more.

Chloe begging, she adds in a meow as well.
-
My cat begging. Who says cats cannot be trained. Trained her using a clicker.

Teach Your Dog to Bark (Speak) on Command Uses : Great Showoff trick, is used in Search and Rescue Equipment Needed : Dog, treats, and/or clicker Clicker Method 1. Try to entice your dog to bark. I was training Moses one day and he let out a tiny little groan so I quickly clicked and treated (C/T) and waited for another. Then (C/T). I C/T ten times, then waited for a louder bark and upped the criteria. I then c/t the louder bark. You might have to wait a few seconds for the next bark to come. 2. Then add the cue word "Speak" and hand signal. Usually a hand opening and closing. 3. Try in various locations. Moses has just learnt this trick in the last couple of weeks, when I go to a new location, he gets confused and I have to go back to the start. Food Method 1. I had a german shepherd, and I simply wagged the bit of food near her nose. She started to offer me all sorts of sits, then she groaned, and I quickly rewarded that with the food. Repeat several times. Pitfalls Once the dog is reliably barking when you ask for it. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER reward the dog if he barks and you do not ask for it. Otherwise you will create a dog that barks to get its own way. Just ignore the bark. Also teach shoosh to stop the dog barking. I would not recommend this trick for one of those breeds that never stop barking. Troubleshooting My dog does not bark? You lucky person!! Here are some ideas that might make your dog bark. waiting while food bowl is filled trying to get a toy under the couch playing tug you picking up keys chasing a ball you barking at the dog
