Looking For Bowen/chiropractor
whatevah replied to whatevah's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I am very happy that Josh is okay and it is not cruciate ligament. I was upset that George didn't pick the injury in the rear leg, and instead put it down to tiny little cuts in the pads. As you can see by the other similar threads, Tony, Ray, George, Alex are all different, some work well for some people and others work well for other people. Tony is only 20 minutes away from where I live. -

Had Tim look at him at Kintala Club and also a vet who trains there. Was not a cruciate ligament. Took him to Tony at Hampton Park and was very impressed. He said that he had torn a hamstring. He was very thorough and told me exactly what he was doing. Also took him to Elizabeth who does Bowen, she said it was a obstructa muscle (i think). When we took him to George earlier in the week, he said it was cuts on the pads. Tony told us to rest Josh for about 10 days, which is okay as I am in Sydney with Moses. I will never take any of my dogs back to George again. I don't know how he could miss that. -

Victoria, Melbourne -
Josh my flat coated retriever has hurt his back leg. Took him for a walk at the local park where he swam, etc. Noticed later in the day at home that he is carrying his back leg. Took him to see George, no help. Three days later he is still carrying his back leg slightly off the ground. Wondering if anyone knows of a Bowen Therapist that they can recommend who is both reasonable in price and does a good job, or a chiropractor. I live in South Eastern suburbs, Victoria.

Josh my flatcoated retriever, burps pretty loud, usually comes and sits next to you a burps, has also been know to fart very noisily too. He snores loud as well. My Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, is very noisy whilst sleeping, his paws move and he barks whilst sleeping.

My two dogs do not bark in flyball. But if you watch Josh as he is getting ready to run, he stands there with determined expression on his face, I do not really even need to hold him. Then he takes off. I have taught both dogs that they only get released on the word "GO", I always release my dogs when the returning dog jumps over the second jump, so I adjust where I stand. So as the dog before us is running towards the box I say "Ready", when it jumps on the box, I say "set", and when it is coming over the second jump, I say "go". My dogs know exactly when they will be released so need for pent up frustration etc. In training doing recalls over jumps, I always get the person holding the dog to say ready, set, go so they know from the start. Moses though does whine a little at lure coursing. There are other tollers that bark and whine at flyball, but mine doesn't. I think it has to do with training for most dogs. But you have to do the training from start, once it becomes a habit it is hard to break. Congrats on finding Tinny, Rhi!!!!!! I love the way you release Elvis. I have also seen some dogs in agility that bark none stop the whole way through, but not as many as flyball, I don't like barking either in flyball and that what I think turns a lot of people off. Also with my dogs, I will often run them as one dog, so each dog does about half the work of say one dog, I rotate them through. So far Josh is 6 and no need for retirement. I have also heard that in the USA they retire a dog if it runs over 6 seconds!!! -

With my dogs, I do not compete in Summer months, and I do not attend every training session, this way they get a rest. Seems to be working. I have also taught Moses the swimmers turn. This next comp will be the first in 4 months, not including the Collingwood demo. Forgot to add I also have a demo tape of the Pedigree Superdogs doing a couple of agility demos. Also forgot to add that I don't think every breed is conformation wise suitable to do flyball, such as heavy short breeds, as a lot of stress on legs etc. Also long backed breeds. -
My two gun dogs will be there too, there is a thread on this under social events. I am still getting over kidney surgery so may skip the recalls at the start.

Actually depending where you live in Dandy Ranges, the club at Berwick is actually located in Narre North, and is the closest to me, but I don't train there LOL. Croydon require that you do more obedience to do flyball than Berwick. -

Not sure of your question, do you mean where did I film the flyball at or where do I train at? If you goto http://www.flyball.org.au they have a list of clubs. -
Weavers - Are We Doomed?

It is long and involved, to follow it you would need to buy "Shaping for Success" by Susan Garrett or go to the VCA library and I think it is in one of the Clean Run Magazines. But basically you start off with 2 poles and click and reward the dogs entry's, then you start working like around the clock at different angles, once the dog has this you then move on to 4 poles. Again you work around the clock so that the dog knows how to do entry's from every angle. Once the dog gets it right you throw the toy. Thats it in a nutshell, but if you are going to try this method you really need to read the detailed instructions that are about 3 pages long. But it works. I think it took about 4 weeks, working on it every day. -
I also used the ball method to teach Moses to drop on verbal alone, he learns that as soon as he does what I want, he gets what he wants such as the ball or the toy of even a piece of food thrown for him to catch. The first few times were slow then he sped up. So many dogs get reinforced for sitting, that that is all they offer, so make him drop for everything. I also use this method to teach him to bow, spin etc.

I have video footage on my dogs competing in flyball and also on this website. Do you live anywhere near the Dandenong Ranges? http://youtube.com/watch?v=l7ckRNYkSaY (Moses) and (Josh)the ones I have on video at home are a lot longer. -

I used the Susan Garrett 2 x 2 method. Here is a video of the result http://youtube.com/watch?v=AfNduEBWaYk Found this method works great if your dog knows clicker and loves toys. -

I only taped the star pet segment part. In the show they were talking about how to fit head halters but did not actually show walking the dog with the halti on. The show is very basic and you probably won't learn anything from it. -

Watched the series last night and saw Josh doing flying leaps. Was disappointed that they didn't show some of Moses more spectacular tricks such as coits, trolley pull or opening and closing cupboard/doors drawers then he would have been sure to win. I had sent them in a video with all his tricks. But then that is showbusiness and I am happy that my dog got on. Thanx for voting for us. -

Thanx Lablover, I think you will enjoy Josh's enthusiastic water retrieves. They will be saying the breeds and dogs names I think. -
Was the dog actually retrieving the ball from the flyball box? I couldn't see that far in the video. At k9Company at Lilydale, we will do flygility if we get interested people as we have all the equipment, I think Bellarine does it.

Love the shots of the tollers. Moses and Finlay did a run off at the Pet Expo. The shot of Finlay with the prick ears racing towards the box is a great one. -

I don't weather or not to take offence at the comment "that I didn't look skinny at all", maybe I could try out for the "Biggest Loser", LOL ) Did anyone get any of the photos of the chocolate and white borders from the Norwest Team? I was speaking to them about their dogs. Does anyone know what lines they come from? Noticed only 2 teams entered from Croydon. I only stayed a couple of hours. It was very hot and at stage could feel sweat dripping down at the backs of my legs. I don't run my dogs in summer comps as there batterys run out. But I couldn';t have run them anyway, but hope to do the next Ballarat comp, and next demo. -

I went today for a couple of hours, did not compete. I love the new flyball lights fantastic!!! You can see the speed of each dog. It was great to see some cockerspaniels running. Also loved how the time of the start dog is displayed and the time the race was completed in was displayed. Can't wait to run Josh and Moses, so I will finally know how fast they actually are and which dog is faster. They are both very similar. Was interesting to watch. I watched Ballarat competing against an interstate team. Ballarat had the faster dogs with times like 4.3 seconds!!! But the other team bet them, I think due to better cross overs. Also think its great that people can records the dogs times, without annoying the time keepers. Also checked out some chocolate and white border collies from parramatta. -
