  1. They are my photos which I went there and personally took. The other photo is from a girl who has her brother. I have heard that Ian Dunbar gets people to feed their dogs all there meals from their hands for two weeks to increase the food drive.
  2. Well I bought her from interstate and she was the only female in the litter, have seen both her parents working and the siblings from the first litter. If it was a perfect world, I would have done temperament tests, on all the pups, I would have had a few looks at the litter etc. The breeder would not even email me a photo. Moses' breeder was not any better. I couldn't even see Moses interacting with his litter, or even visit breeder in the home!!!!
  3. What is TOT? She has great tug drive. Have done a couple of exercises where I say sit then let her tug as soon as she sits. I like to have both food and tug. The other day she was worried about the cat so I called her and played tug and she went back to that. A lot of things I want to teach her the more complicated ones I will need food for. But will use tug for motivation in agility and flyball. Have fed her after she sees the other two dogs eating and she is now starting to launch herself at her food bowl. Have added different types of food to the bowl, rather than just kibble. She is eating everything and leaving bits of the kibble behind, as soon as she leaves the bowl I take it away from her. She very gently takes food out of the hand. I am doing a training diary with her so I can see how she is progressing, the link is under my signature.
  4. I would like to know how to increase my pups food drive, she will barely eat of my hand. She has great tug drive, but would like to increase her food drive. The only idea I can think of at the moment is too cut down her food and use it for training instead. Any other ideas or exercises. I also feed my two other dogs before her so she has to wait. This morning she ate much quicker out of her bowl. I am using chicken, cheese as rewards.
  5. You need to speak to a behaviourist about that. Here is Tia learning to wave. Part 1 Part 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqhaJEOtXb4
  6. We could all get together at my place and take the dogs on a train ride, I have a train station within walking distance. Also good for dogs to hear trains. Check out my blog in the blog section of this forum for my updated photo pics.
  7. You could try Kintala club, and you are welcome to meet up with me and my pup as they are similar ages, or come around to my place, as I have 1/3 acre with creek, bridge, chickens, cats, tiny see saw etc. PM me and I will give you my phone number or ask Cindy from Animal Aid. Does Animal aid have classes?
  8. Yep I knew about red hair being recessive, I was having a joke with Sparty. ) Her partner could be suspicous!!! I have started a training blog for my pup. Check the topic under training section. When my dog (Moses) is really good at stays, I purposely put him next to a dog that I know will break.
  9. Depends on the camp format. If it is the same as this year, maybe all 3. But if there is going to be more work with the dog, I'll have to decide between Moses and Josh. Sparty, where did the red hair come from? Does your partner have red hair? LOL Any photos?
  10. Sparty, what did you have boy or girl or one of each? How much did it weigh, who does it look like? Moses got his CD title and may be in Vic Dog mag in January. New pup arrives on Monday.
  11. How did you get the picture of the dog on youtube clip. Did you use a screen capture program?
  12. How did you get the picture of the dog on youtube clip. Did you use a screen capture program?
  13. Uploaded two clips of my boys running.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aaAtiPPcgaI (Josh) Moses http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhFRRbresY4
  14. Had a fantastic time. They were so friendly. They said I was welcome back with open arms, and let everyone else know about it. Moses did 2 x 400m runs and 2 x 100m runs. Josh did 2 x 100m runs. He didn't want to run 400m. They both had a great time, my daughter videoed it, so I will put a clip on youtube. Jeff will have to keep us updated for future events. There was a barely a cue, max waiting time 5 mins!!!!! Learnt some interesting things such as to let the dog run without a collar. Collar can make it hard for them when they are heated up. Don';t let the dog drink lots of water straight after as can wreck the kidneys, let the dog get its feet wet after the race to cool down.
  15. I clicked on the links and it said unavailable, like how you put the photo in the post, how did you do that?
  16. Probably won't be going to Ballarat, I don't like to run my dogs in the heat, and I give them a rest during the summer months. If my club is desperate and it is not hot, then I will come along. Bringing my video camera today to film the dogs racing. Wondering how much to hire out the place at Healesville ? Then we could have a DOL day.
  17. I will be definately there with Moses and Josh. Natasha, Nova and Moses could race together!!!!!! ) Josh will be racing at flyball tomorrow without me. :D I will be working, so if you see Josh could you give him some pats from me. Hastings needed a spare dog, and he is staying overnight at Jenny;s place. Last I heard he was carrying a Kong around the backyard.
  18. Yep when I say to Moses "drop" as soon as he drops, I say "YES" or I might click, then I throw the reward. Forgot about that part. The other week when I did some filming for an add, one he had done his stuff, my release word was "go have a rest" and the dog switches off. Someone commented on it, and I couldn't even remember what I said, I just do it automatically. I actually did delay the yes word, because he got so excited he wouldn't go all the way down and actually would do a bow. I got a bow on recall at one stage. LOL )
  19. Maybe that is your problem, if I want the dog to work at a distance, the reward has to be given at a distance. Moses drops at a distance, so I throw the reward behind him. When he knows it well then I will mix up where I throw the reward. Or you could go out and reward her there, but I wouldn't recall her. Even in agility for teaching the table, you always reward on the table.
  20. Does she know drop from a stand? Like with you in front. I start with my dog close, I say drop, as soon as he drops i throw the toy as the reward, the drops get quicker because he knows as soon as he drops he gets what he wants which is to retrieve the toy.
  21. Thanx this thread is starting to have some good discussion. Both my male dogs have very small male parts. My toller gets mistaken for a girl. But I did hear if you are planning on doing agility it is better to wait a bit longer. I started this thread as I have had a couple of people tell the theory about the longer legs etc. But it is hard to say, because Moses father is above average so of course I am likely to get a tall toller, and that is what I wanted.
  22. Molasses, your dogs are beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love the one at the bottom, can I take him/her home? (Just joking). Do you brush your dogs a lot? When I was away I was very bored so started brushing Moses daily, and his coat came up very shiny. Thanx for the cocker photos.
  23. I am not anti desexing, just keep it nice. Just interested in discussion. This was discussed at a recent seminar I was at. The presenter said that desexed early males particularly ended up a lot narrower in the body, and it effected them structurally. However every dog is different and I have been told that my flatcoat Josh is built like a brick sh@#t house, probably due to flyball.
  24. I have heard that if you desex your dog too early say at around 6 months, that it can lead to the male dog being more leggy as the growth plates take longer to close. Also heard that desexed dogs are hairier. My flatcoat is taller than average and very hairy. My toller top of the standard and also very hairy. What are people opinions on this. They also say for the health of the female dog, to have her desexed after the first season.
  25. My dog only does agility for the reward at the end, he is not that fussed over it. But take him to lure coursing, and he won't even eat a chicken chunker in front of his face while waiting for his turn. He runs flat chat the whole way, and will try and get inside the blue tunnel at the end to get that plastic bag. My other dog loves retrieving and the retrieve is the reward. That toy you mentioned, I made something similar, I bought a nylon horse whip and tied a plastic bag on the end and also have tied a latex toy on the end. Used it last time Moses did some filming for an add where he had to do lots of leaps in the air.
