Does flyball have a rule for heat? I remember earlier this year at the Ringwood Nationals, it was so hot that sweat was running down the backs of my legs. I have never been so hot. There were even people who had towels wrapped around their heads and it was a 2 day event. I did not race my dogs but came along to look at the new lights. There were heaps of people there racing there dogs. For my two gun dogs who have been bred to swim in icy water, I take them out of trialling in the summer months. But am more happy to trial in the winter.

So far we have been keeping them separate. My other two gundogs leave them alone. -

Mary Ray told us at the seminar that when they trial they are allowed to talk to the dog during the routine and said she would have problems not being able to talk to the dog at the earlier levels. Here is Moses in CCD - our very first trial. Here he is in CD - Here he is at Kintala club where we can reward in the ring once exercise finished notice the big difference between CD and this one. In CD he was getting ringwise. Notice the big difference in me between CD and Kintala one. At the kintala club I have a big ridiculous smile on my face. I think you need to put up a routine in Australia of someone, who has just barely passed, then you can see a really good routine and a not so good but passable. Some people after seeing that fantastic boxer would be afraid to enter. I couldn't understand what the steward was saying it sounded like "furball". That boxer was fantastic. -

She is a absolutely beautiful girl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Like others said, quicken up your pace, I would even maybe try heeling her next to the wall so she can heel closer into your side. The video had excellent quality, what program did you use to upload it to the internet and what settings? Just be careful I have heard you can get pinged if you look at your dog. I do it all the time in training myself and then force myself not to do it in the trail ring. She is beautiful, loved the change of position. -

Go back to basics, and try using a different target such as the yellow pages and walk him past it, and as soon as he touches it c/t before he can drop. After he has touched "yellow pages" click and reward him whilst he is in a stand, perhaps walk a couple of steps.

Herding - How Do You Stop The Pup Herding Chooks
whatevah replied to whatevah's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Someone else has suggested possibly teaching her to herd, so she learns properly, then tell her not to herd. Today I got the broom out and swept but played tuggy with her as I was sweeping to get her attention off the broom, it worked. -
Have done heaps of free shaping with Moses, he has quite a long attention span and will keep trying new things and does not throw behaviours 24/7. He knows by my body language and where he is whether to be working or not.

I had another idea, maybe the VCA. They have two separate off leash areas, could use one for boisterous puppys and one for nervous puppys. I am doing puppy classes at Croydon and Kintala club at the moment.

I actually have been doing free time with Moses and he offered 5 rollovers in a row, going different directions. Moses knows that sometimes I won't reward the first behaviour, so he will offer the same one again, and then I will reward that one. The next time I might reward the 3rd and then bounce around and do the 1st. The next thing he in free time was to cross his paws, he does this naturally but I have never taught it. I have now got it nearly on cue. He also did the head nod. Get the Book "Quick Clicks" it is a shaping book and sets out the exact steps and what to reward. It is available from VCA library. Herding - How Do You Stop The Pup Herding Chooks
whatevah replied to whatevah's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Tia has actually chased the chooks they didn't cluck at her. If the cat chases the chooks, the chooks cluck at the cat. When I used to have my sheep, she actually head butted Moses, and he never chased sheep. Thanx anyway. I had another idea of having the gate to the chook pen with a little door that only chooks can fit in, and then they can run into there.? When we first had the chooks, we put up green shade cloth mesh to stop Moses chasing them from the outside of the chook pen. -
Kepala is out near Diggers Rest, not far from the airport. I just came back from showing my girl the beach.

Herding - How Do You Stop The Pup Herding Chooks
whatevah replied to whatevah's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Okay thanx for the advice, will keep dog and chooks separate. I am an absolute newbie in this area. I know nothing, zilch, zip!!! I live in the Dandenong Ranges area. -
Okay have found out that my 9 week old pup has herding instinct yesterday. She give the chook eye then stalks after it and drops and watches the chook and then chased it. I would like to know what should I do to stop her interest in the chooks. Should I have the chooks locked up when she is around? Should I tell her off if she goes to chase the chooks. If I decide to do herding what are the steps that you can do with the puppy? Will the chooks be put off laying if she is chasing them? Here is a video of Tia chasing a broom.

I would agree. I have a little paddle pool like they use at flyball, and I am getting her use to that. Where I live I also have a creek, and a tunnel that goes under the road. Also found that she copys my other dogs and is learning from them. I think trips in the car are really important. I am mainly playing tug games and recall to tug games.

Kepala park is too far for me, also the dogs I socialize with have to be friendly dogs.

Today I whilst working my toller, I had my border out. I put some chicken mince down near the border and if she was too slow the toller got to have it. The toller was very cautious about taking food from near her. I did see the border starting to eat a bit quicker. Today gave the dog bones all together, the border went and got hers, took off and buried it. I am being very careful with this exercise, there is no way that I would have my flatcoat and border eating near each other.

I have had other dogs, that were like bouncing off the walls and couldn't wait to learn as soon as I got them home. I considered that to be normal.

Today after following someones advice I am handfeeding her her meals. Tonight before I gave her each piece, I c/t. Then I threw her dry food a few feet away, and when she was about to eat, and turned her head I clicked and threw a piece the other way. She was running towards the food. Looked quite funny trying to watch a puppy do a side turn quicker than what she wanted. Later played with tug. Got my daughter to hold her and say ready set go, while I ran off with the tug. Then played two toys game, she retrieved the tennis ball straight to hand.
