  1. I was just curious as it seems it is more common with breeders than obedience people, was wondering if obedience/performance people have a stronger bond. I am not critizing anyone either. I mean I have suggested ex - guide dogs (pups that didn;'t make the grade) as pets. A person getting an ex obedience/performance dog is most likely getting a well trained dog. I can also see the point of view that the dog is going to a single dog home. I once left Josh over night at someone's house, as they were using him for a flyball comp the next day. He kept sooking he thought I left him. He was so happy when we picked him up. Check out the new forum, videos to share, part of the photo section. In the puppy video section there is a great link with puppy's learning service dog taks, it is about the 4 message along.
  2. I know you don't like dogs, but check out these clips. They are very cute puppies learning service dog tasks. http://www.puppyprodigies.org/VideoClips.htm My pet sheep got attacked by dogs. I put a tribute to her on this site, http://forums.dogzonline.com.au/index.php?...71&hl=Bezza and it really made me feel a lot better getting it off my chest and writing to people who understand. So a little bit similar to you. I even have the same names for my pets as you do. Do you think you may not have been ready for another budgie? Bird and animals are so unique. I don't hate all dogs, but don;t like the breeds involved. Don't worry about other people not no nice comments, people always try to pull you down instead of lifting you up. I was having fun with my pup, and people were accusing me of wasting water!!!
  3. Here are some puppy video links. http://www.puppyprodigies.org/VideoClips.htm These pups are learning service dogs tasks. There are pups tugging at 11 weeks old and opening doors, pulling off socks, loose lead walking. Really amazing stuff. Pups are aged from 4 weeks to 6 months very cute.
  4. There were actually more high 5's and jumping over legs etc the person videoing it, stopped it at that point.
  5. Here are some heelwork to music routines. This first one is Mary Ray, amazing how she can work with 4 dogs!!!! There are 4 movies at this link. http://www.maryray.co.uk/movies.html Here is Richard Curtis - there are about 3 clips here, including thriller. http://www.k9freestyle.co.uk/video%20clips.htm Here is Atilla, he does absolutely brilliant routines including Charlie Chaplin and Mary Poppins, about 5 clips on this link. http://www.dogdance.net/english_version/clips/clips.html Carolyn Scott and Rookie the Golden Retriever - this was the first one I ever saw and one of the best. http://www.k9-freestylers.com/carolyn.html
  6. Would love to see some dogs doing bits of heeling or any sort of obedience even overseas clips. Here are some of Moses. I love watching overseas clips. So if anyone has any at all please add to the thread. Kintala Club - Junior Comp CCD CD
  7. Our creek I think is spring fed partially, then it runs for another 500m and goes straight down a drain into the sewer. It was a one off.
  8. Welcome and add your puppy links here. Here are a few of Tia, who is now 13 weeks old, a chocolate and white border collie. They are both training and fun clips. Feel free to add whatever sort of clips you have whether playing, swimming, training. Tia playing with the hose Tia targetting using a Treat N Train Tia playing Tug Tia Learning about the dumbell, shirley chong method we are now up to step 14, but the video is about step 7 I think. Tia following a target stick Tia learning to touch a target stick Tia being recalled to a tug toy Tia chasing a broom
  9. No I was just curious, no reason. I just find it interesting. I am enjoying my border collie she is really interesting and totally different to a gun dog, it is like owning a different animal. The way she responds to other dogs and people is completely different. She runs up to total strangers and sits in front of them for a pat. LOL I did not teach her that. She tries to herd Josh. She somehow gets older dogs to play with her. It is really funny she is just walking around and suddenly a dog comes up and starts play bowing to her, a 18 month old german shepherd did it to her and tonight a Saint Bernard!!!! I was watching very carefully. I took her swimming today at Cannon Creek, fantastic, people and dogs in swimming. Owning a border collie is learning curve for me.
  10. Thats quite interesting. With Josh it took me 6 months to get him to start liking water. Now look at him, as soon as we go to a park, he runs for the nearest body of water. Thanx for you reply.
  11. What is "washed dog"? Like I said when they got rehomed the new owner would have been getting an excellent dog. What were the earlier signs that you saw.
  12. Of course the sheep's safety comes first. I used to have a pet sheep. She had a better recall than the dog and I wondered why people did herding, couldn't they just call the sheep in. She used to come in for her pellets. My sheep was boss at home, she put Moses in his place as soon as he arrived by head butting him. He once tried to head butt her back, and then she head butted him. My sheep used to love being patted under the arm pits and she looked like she was stoned. I just don't want to use overly aggressive methods whereas I lose the relationship with my dog, and my dog doesn't want anything to do with me. Of course if the dog went for a sheep I would tell her off. I did that to Moses when he ran a snatched a lollipop out of a little girls hand and ate it.
  13. Lablover, at what age did you rehome dogs in the past? Just curious as to how long you work with them, and how long it took you to decide the dog wasn't working out. What was it about them, that they didn't have? At least the dog is trained for the new home.
  14. Forgot to add, we all know what happens to greyhounds when they can no longer run. I actually did rehome a dog for health reasons. She was full of allergies and mutilating herself with the itching scratching. We tried everything including modified diet, took her to the vet specialist centre, tried a special coat, tried partitioning off our land etc. Contacted breeder, and she organised a new home for her. The new people drove all the way from South Austalia, and took her allergies and all. Since moving to South Austalia all her allergies disappeared. Different environment. I was crying buckets when I let her go, but it was the best choice for her. She was trained to a good obedience standard. She was a munsterlander.
  15. I read in a different forum that a lot of show owners rehome their breeding dogs and dogs that didn't turn out as well as expected for the show ring. I know of a lady who rehomed her Rottweiler because it lost a tooth. Is this common in the obedience/flyball/herding/tracking performance homes? Do people rehome dogs because they don't herd or don't retrieve? Just curious. I am not thinking of rehoming any of my dogs just curious.
  16. I love breed performance brags. Congrats!!!! Josh is the first dog in Australia to get his AFCH in flyball and Moses is the first dog in Victoria to get his CCD under the new rules. That is really good news for you!!!!!
  17. This is Tia playing with the hose, she is running after it and trying to catch the water in her mouth. My other two dogs are scared of the hose. So at least I can cool her down in the heat. Will this be a problem for later? The water I am using comes straight from a creek and we are allowed to use it during water restrictions.
  18. I am actually going to take my dog to Upwey High School oval as there is always heaps of friendly dogs there to socialise with, they are there from about 4.30pm to 5.30pm.
  19. Yes I was considering it for Tia, (border collie) definately not for my gundogs. LOL :D) We used to have a pet sheep and Josh would run up to it and give it licky licks. LOL )
  20. I use these treat bags. You can wash them out, and small enough to go in a pocket. I found feeding Tia less meals, and making her work for her food got her more food motivated. I hand fed her for two weeks.
  21. My husband had a budgie that he loved and trained, then when we got to Melbourne, the cage wasn't secure and he flew away, my husband was in tears. Check out my website http://www.dogtrick.741.com it has Josh and Moses, I love the name Moses I picked it to be commical. Also he is a red dog. LOL
  22. Josh is a great name, my other dog is called Josh. I have Josh and Moses.
  23. Are you going to be there at KCC Park on Tuesday? I am going, you could bring them along.
  24. Go here for the rules of CCD and CD http://www.dogtrick.741.com/mosesobedience.htm
  25. To me she seems to have instinct the way I see her interacting with other dogs and our chooks. Other people have commented as well. But if she doesn't then it is not the end of the world and we will try something else. No use batting on with something if the dog is not cut out for it.
