  1. Treat on the end of the nose is very easy to teach. But your dog first has to know how to do a normal catch. Then you have to teach him to catch something off the end of his nose. You put the treat there, and let him try and catch it, if he misses and it goes on the floor its yours, if he catches it then thats great. To add the time, you put the treat on the dogs nose, tell him wait, then take it off and give a treat from elsewhere, and gradually lengthen the time. While I am here, here are a couple more. Open closed drawer bring toy back and then close the drawer Now in reverse, put toy away and then close the drawer Moses nodding his head http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1Fbr7r9uQo
  2. Tia caught a tiny tennis ball today which was great. I have been teaching her with a very soft toy and throwing it towards her mouth. Today I bounced the tennis ball on the ground in front of her, and she was following the bounces with her head, then I threw it lightly towards her face and she caught it. When she gets really good then I will go to treats.
  3. Here are some more tricks. Moses putting a hoop on a stick. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qORZVcGQ_WQ Josh catching a biscuit off the end of his big nose. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGSXEkvkgAs Moses running up to my husband and pulling a towel out of his pocket for me to blow my nose on, after I go "achoo" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fFbZUmQoYU4 Moses taking off my husbands sock. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNSbZqCDIFw
  4. Check out my web page has instructions, videos and photos, also go to the trick forum. http://forums.dogzonline.com.au/index.php?showtopic=7358 instructions and some cute photos of dogs catching. I am teaching Tia to catch at the moment, I am using a very soft toy and throw it towards her when she is in a sit position and I am in front from a short distance away, I try to get it to land in her mouth, if she doesn't catch it then the toy is mine, if she catches it she gets to play tug. You do the same with treats, whatever they don't catch, is yours, otherwise why make an effort.
  5. Feel free to add your dog tricks here, don't worry about your dogs standard. Here is one of Moses to get started. Will add more later. Cross Your Paws Mutliple Rollovers
  6. Well actually he can. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1Fbr7r9uQo
  7. I think rehoming performance dogs would be much more prevalent in the USA/UK, where they seem to be extremely serious. I saw an agility event where there were all these motorhomes in the car park.
  8. I went to the Mary Ray seminar and we all had to quickly get up and dance to music with our dogs. No rehearsal, just make it up on the spot. Here is a golden retrieve who has only had a couple of lessons. He is very happy and loves leg weaves. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKgnHj092tI
  9. Could you try facing side on at the last moment as he races in, then he will miss you, or you could try holding out a piece of food in front, or a toy. Or teach drop on recall, then the dog gets confused and comes in slowly.
  10. Thats great, Tia went mad with a traffic cone yesterday wrapped her paws around it and was fighting with it, then she went mad in her paddle pool that has tan bark in it, was digging like crazy, didn't have the video camera though.
  11. Thats interesting "field" because that's what Moses does all the time. It is hilarious. At the dog park, shoemonster has seen this, if he is in a group situation, he works out where the ball is going to be thrown and just goes out about 20m and waits there so he can beat the other dogs to it. Hilarious. With Josh as a youngster, when he didn't deliver to hand I would walk away from the ball, then he would go and get it and bring it to me. At the moment I am teaching my pup the shirley chong clicker retrieve, we are up to the step where she picks up a dumbell and places it in my hand, I can see that she really wants to pick it up and walk away with it, but I don't reward that. I am also working on another style with a tennis ball, which I have learnt from the Springloaded DVD, (flyball club). Whenever she has the ball in her mouth I play push away games, and get her to chase me with it in her mouth and do a tiny tug with it still in her mouth and then more games. I do it first thing in the morning when she has the most energy and in the hallway where there are no distractions at home.
  12. Why don't you do flyball. I think flyball on water would be the sport for you dog. LOL Josh has the same priorities.
  13. The towel one I did with Moses, by accident and he went berserk backing. I didn't film it though. What sort of camera and software are you using?
  14. Here is Moses bringing back Josh. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9lvzuYZeTk Here are both of them being recalled to a whistle on our front nature strip. Tia being recalled to a tug toy.
  15. Springloaded was the first team to run under 16 seconds and they made a time of 15.98 seconds. The crossovers are amazing. Don';t blink you will miss it. http://www.springloaded-flyball.com/Springloaded.WMV Here is Josh in flyball, not quite as fast as them but he enjoys himself. Here is Moses http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l7ckRNYkSaY Our crossovers need a lot of work, no where near their standard. LOL )
  16. SNAP I already started one. So funny. I can add mine to yours. Here is Moses Add for Slurpee. Here is Tia and the broom Tia and the hose, using creek water, one off this water goes down the sewer another 500m further down the creek. Checked with authorities and we are allowed to do it.

  18. Thats fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So funny. I love dogs with personality. Send it in to Funniest Home Videos. Loved the vocalisation, and the towel. Keep em coming. I am loving this forum. We could start a mental dog thread. Okay I have started it.
  19. I don't see any difference, he was great with Tia. Nothing wrong with him!!! Maybe over anxious owner. LOL )
  20. I like the gardening and the vacuum cleaner, a new way of cleaning his teeth. LOL Great keep them coming. I have heard that some staffies have problems swimming due to their confirmation. Where was the swimming pool?
  21. My toller gets a sore back when he does weaving so I don't do agility anymore with him. I have also seen someone who had a german shepherd who was very aggressive yet she had done all the socializing and it still turned out that way.
  22. Do you have it on video? Would love to see it. What about changing to a safer retrieving article such as a soft toy, sticks aren't good anyway.
  23. Dogs are all a learning experience. Josh was my first flyball dog and obedience dog. I worked out my mistakes and then took it into account for the next dog. Tollersowned haven't you found Darcy much easier?
  24. They are both very cute, Vegas does a good crawl backwards and that beagle so cute with the retrieve. Puppy's are so goofy. LOL )
