There are more herding videos under "Videos to Share" there is a thread there. It is a sub forum of Photos. I also booked in for the seminar. You will have to come and say hello to me as I will be probably the only with a choc and white border so should be easy to pick. LOL. All your kelpies look alike. LOL :D))) Anyone got an answer for why the border collie didn't herd the pet sheep in the flock?

What obedience school?

Another question I was watching a border collie herding sheep, and there was a pet sheep in the flock. She didn't herd this sheep but ignored it, as this sheep didn't really join the flock. Has anyone come across this one before? I enjoyed watching your videos. I have borrowed a couple of herding videos from the VCA library.

Last session she didn't do any chasing. The critisicm has mainly come from another list. Do people think that I could be damaging her do herding and I should wait a while longer? Some people must think I am really dumb. People are saying I will injure her etc. But where I did herding last time, she only had to move about 3 metres till she got to the sheep, and we only had her on the sheep for one short session. Not as if I am sending her up to sheep 100m away. and practicing every day. I have seen dogs more rough than that just by playing together. The lady said she had a lot of talent and was showing instinct very early. Especially with the chooks. She was also balancing the sheep, last session. Probably in future will video, but not put on youtube or not for the public. One guy commented on my videos and wanted to know where I learnt to train dogs so well. Which was nice to hear. But there are always people out there to bring others down.

Puppy Socialisation Problems – Where To From Here?
whatevah replied to david99's topic in Puppy Chat
Tia was very nervous around dogs. All the socialising I did with her was off lead. For the reason if she wants to get away she can and less likely to panic. I went to a friends place who had a nice dog, I just let Tia do her thing and look around and an hour later!!! she suddenly started playing with this kelpie and enjoying herself. Tia is fine now with other dogs. But Tia knew if the situation was too much she could get away. I would take your puppy to a friendly dog that you know and let her socialise off lead. If you have pick a safe place. -
No didn't video it this time. As I got a fair amount of criticsm from people watching it last time. She didn't start her in a round yard as she said some dogs get nervous. To catch Tia was very easy, just told her to sit. This time she wasn't running lots of round circles. She would mainly run once around the sheep and we would move back a bit. Once she came and sat, the lady was talking to me and Tia just dropped but still watching the sheep. These were different sheep some were stamping their feet.

Puppy Socialisation Problems – Where To From Here?

Is the socializing with dogs on lead or off lead? -
Tia had her second go at herding sheep today. We went to a different place, where she was in a paddock with about 15 sheep. She went really well, the lady said she had heaps of potential and was a little ripper. She was doing some things that she said dog have to be taught. There was no rake this time, and we worked on getting her to sit etc.

With Tia having lots of problems with stays. Can only get up to 5 seconds at my side without moving. This is when I use food. She will either move or start sniffing around. Sit is worse than drop. Have found that using a tug, she will stay longer and I can move further away because she remains focused on the tug. How do I build up longer stays, and what do I do with the tug? Do I somehow start to hide it, so it is not a lure? She is more tug motivated then toy. I can throw a piece of food, she will run for the piece of food and then charge back for the tug. With Moses who is more food motivated he would run for the food and not play tug as wants more food.

They look completely different. LOL Is Trim the dog in your singature? Tia isn't even from herding lines.

TMC are you sure its not my video you are referring to? LOL ) That was Tia's first time at seeing sheep, they just wanted to build up her confidence without any pressure. She had never seen a sheep before until last Sunday. I didn't video the whole lot. At one stage a sheep decided to move away and she put it back. But me and Tia are both extreme novices and both have a lot to learn. I can only go buy what the guy with the rake is doing and telling me.

He is very cute and very fast.

I love it!!! Thats great, cats are so funny. The times I wish I had my video camera out.

I had my first lesson last Sunday. I am now thinking whether to do herding on Sunday, register at Croydon for obedience classes (already doing some somewhere else) or do the Pet Expo. Steve was really nice.

Would have loved to seen that. We are busy mowing and whipper snippering out lawns at the moment. The grass is growing so quickly.
