Thanks for the great photo!!! Josh being a black dog is a hard one to photograph. I even had a magazine contacting me and saying the initial photos they took of him were too dark and I had to send my own off to him. So you did really well.

I did continue with the biblical theme, Josh and Moses. LOL ) Noah isn't a bad name though, except the dog may get it mixed up with No, not just from the owner but from other people cursing their dogs. Actually I was quite happy with how Moses went. From a dog who rarely ever did flying leaps, and at the start only jumped about 3 feet he got up to about 12 feet, huge improvement for him. Josh pretty much stayed the same. I think this would be a low impact sport. I used to do agility with Moses but he used to get a sore back I think through doing the weaver poles. I think this could be a good cross sport. For me I would prefer to do this over tracking, I also like lure coursing, but for some reason is only a fun thing to do in Victoria and not competative. I did some herding with Tia, today at Erskine Park, she did really and they told me she would have passed her PT title. Difference in jumps could be due to handler nerves yesterday. The last jump I did with Josh for the camera, I was told he looked really relaxed, probably because I was relaxed. When I was talking to Lisa she told me in the USA when dogs compete often handlers who run with their dogs end up in the pool as well. Would be funny to see. Yes Josh is the Flatcoat Retriever who is 8 but acts like 1. It was about 18 months ago year that he was very ill and we thought we were going to lose him, but he has come back really well. In one year he got a twisted bowel, pancreatitus, and some other kidney problem. He is now really well and happy in himself.

I think most people who made the initial team, stayed on it. One couple had both of their little dogs on the team and one was taken off. Me and Josh got in!!!

Well you gave it a go, you got some fantastic shots of your dog and other dogs, free tickets to the event and free training.!!!!

I am thinking of doing herding training tomorrow with Tia. Is it still on at Erskine Park?

I was talking to some people on Saturday and they said after the games, they were going to practice in Pitt Town?? in Sydney. Also read that over 50% of dogs that compete in dock diving overseas are labradors. Thats not to say other breeds can't be good at it, just to give you an idea. Similar to flyball and border collies. So what is the under dog thing about? How does it work?

http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=1175...mp;l=daee65d1a4 is the dock that I practice at, but there are no measurements so it is hard to see whether the dog is improving or not. You need a facebook account to view these photos. Moses is going to be in a catalogue for Mazda CX wagon.

There is no where in Melbourne that does it at the moment, but I practice with Josh and Moses at a dock in Tooradin, opposite a public hall in a side street there.

I was at a training session and the trainer from Hanrob training said there was someone in Queensland who trained for 6 hours a day doing it. I think an exaggeration but you could contact them and see.

if your got a little dog you have more of a chance, as the dog just has to be able to jump into the water, if you have a bigger dog it needs to jump further. anyone here trying out? So if you have a little dog that can just jump in, give it a go.
-
So what is the underdog about?
-
Hanrob are doing the training with us at the moment, http://www.hanrob.com.au/, send them an email.

Dock Diving Auditions for games have closed, but they are planning on having the sport in Sydney, I can go and ask for you tomorrow at training.

I have a flat coat retriever, he only needs simple brushing about once a month. A little trimming to neaten up the tail and a little bit off the feet. He is an exceptionally happy licky dog. He treats everyone like a long lost friend and he is 8 years old. He competes in flyball, the only flatcoated retriever competing in Australia. He will also be in the Dock Dog event at the World Dog games in Sydney. He jumped 15 feet !!! I don;t think he is hyper, just very friendly when he meets someone, gets on well with other dogs. To calm him down a little when he first meets someone I will give him a toy. He loves to lick lick lick and more lick lick lick. But will only do this if people pay him attention. Have found if someone just ignores them then he will leave them alone. I think the breed is similar to a golden retriever except age much more slowly.

Have just been reading up on the rules today after the mock competition we did at the Sydney Showgrounds. 11. How did your dogs get their titles? In order for your dog to be titled, you have to first be a member of the DockDogs national organization. Then five jumps at national events within any title's range gives your dog that title. For example, the Junior Title range is 10'-14'11". Five jumps within that range at any of national events will earn your dog a Junior Title. It does not have to happen at one event. The five jumps can be at several different national events. (There are also Regional Titles which are earned the same way, but at regional events.) 12. I would like for me dog to do this, but he's too old. Not so! DockDogs has a Veteran's class for dogs eight years and older. These dogs have their own awards, their own titles, and their own rankings. They can also participate in the regular events and jumps as well. So this means if it was for real, Josh would have been in the veterans class, and both dogs probably would have got their junior titles today. This is where I found the info. http://teamfireandice.blogspot.com/2009/03...est-writer.html Here is my dogs at the pool in Sydney, you need a facebook account to see them. http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=3145...mp;l=f90dc29bf8

Josh got into the Dock Diving Team competing, and both dogs got into the Dock Diving Demo Team. We had a mock competition and Josh got third with a jump of 15feet, Moses got third in his team with a jump of 12 feet. I think over 10 dogs got into the team competing. Was a lot of fun. They all loved Josh and said, he looked like a big teddy bear. Heaps of different breeds. Even some little dogs that only jumped about 6 feet (which was a good effort for their size) got in. A couple of german short haired pointer was good, a kelpie cross border collie jumped 19 feet. They had some Tervivians (might be spelt wrong) that got in. Labradors. One lady travelled from Queensland, and some flyballers from Canberra (shoal haven team).

I thought only certain breeds could do the lure racing. I know any breed can do the lure coursing run by the rhodesian ridge back club.
