Herding - Add Your Dog Herding Videos Here
whatevah replied to whatevah's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
Here is Tia herding at the Aussie Shepherd herding day in March. -
Yep it is step by step, the first game tug is the longest part of the video. She also mentions different methods for different type of dogs such as hard mouthed, soft mouthed. She starts off with the beggining method then goes onto the advanced method. Yesterday I taught Tia to switch between different toys, and introduced the word. This site here has some very interesting articles about Agility Being Good for Dogs, read part 1 & 2, and let me know what you think.\ http://www.silvia.trkman.net/ also scroll down to the videos, has great running contacts, also check out the tricks, even a border riding a skateboard.

Yes on another list I was on, they were a bit upset about it. I would take it as a compliment if my dog were on it. I emailed her and told her she could use any of my videos photos etc. I had a look at my youtube videos the other day and even found that the one of Moses taking my husband's sock off had ended up on a foot fetish site. The one of Josh doing a flying leap into the water has ended up on a overseas site, I can't understand what it says.

I use clicker with Moses and also Tia. At club, whilst instructor is talking I will click and treat everytime she looks at me. Then I work on extending the time before I c/t. It is really building her focus.

Here is another You can even see Mary Ray on it.
-
I had Tia assessed at Action Dogs last week. She passed with flying colours. Action Dogs do mainly foundation exercises, thats why they take young pups.
-
When I picked him up from the Vet they said not to worry if he doesn't eat. I told them the day Moses doens't eat he would be dead. Got home and he ate his food really quick, even with the funny collar on. He is out in our front yard and the other dogs are in the back yard. He can still see them from the side gate and actually spends his time at the side gate watching them.

They regularly rotated the sheep around. They used sheep that were used to dogs. -

Moses won't be at the RSPCA day just Josh and Tia. Moses is out of action for awhile due to seed injury. He has a drainage tube and stiches at the moment, it is under the health forum. Josh and Tia will also be doing lure coursing on Sunday. Wagalot where are the pictures that you posted from the sheep dog clinic? That was a great day. -
I pick him up from the vet today he had to stay overnight. He will have a drainage tube in for 5 days, then he gets his stiches out after 10 days. Will have to keep him seperate from the other dogs. No flyball for him for awhile. They couldn't find the grass seed.
-
Moses is at the Vets, they are going to do explatory surgery, they think it is a grass seed. The will drain the abscess, some of it has started to drain by itself. Will find out today or tomorrow.
-
Actually taking him to the vet 12.45 earliest appointment. Felt it today and doesn't feel as big could have just been a swelling after lots of exercise from a wound, but will still take him anyway.

Here is a clip of Tia herding. She goes crazy at the start and then settles down, once I start to get an idea on what I am supposed to be doing. I picked my dog up at the end because I was so happy with her. Going to do the herding instinct test in May in the current gazette. -
Sheepdog Training Day In Vic

Yep I have a video of you and Cooper. I went on Sunday as well not as good as Saturday. Very different. If you want to send me $5.00 will send you a DVD with him on it. Don't want to put it up on Youtube after the presenter told me I wasn't allowed to video. Would have loved to video Tia on the sheeps back, or me working Tia by myself. Found at KCC park the yard was tiny and Tia likes to have distance so it was harder to get her to arc. But we got lots of oohhs and ahhs from the audience. -
How Many Repetitions To Teach A Required Behaviour?
whatevah replied to Lablover's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I agree with working setters. I thought gee it took Moses 10 reps to learn that exercise, he mustn't be as smart as those dogs that only took 5 reps. If Nova only takes 5 reps to learn something then how come it took him 3 years to learn flyball? Flyball is a good test, they may know it on their training ground, but take them to a comp. Completely different lots of new dogs heaps of distractions. One minute they are lying in their crate the next minute they are in the comp and have to switch on. Josh and Tia take a lot more reps then Moses. -
Was patting Moses tonight and found a lump near his back. The size of a 50c piece, Chickwingz also felt it. He is going to the vet tomorrow. It felt quite hard and was bleeding a bit.

Who Often Do You Train And For How Long?
whatevah replied to Lablover's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
My dogs basically stay outside all day, and come in at night time. I am crate training Tia at night times only so if I go to a flyball comp etc, she will be used to being in a crate. My dogs all get taken to a park where they using go swimming most days. Even at the park I practice recalls with them. At home I take one dog out on the nature strip and the other dogs are in the yard. I will do maybe 30 seconds work with one dog and then reward the other dogs for being quiet, then do a bit more. Also in the mornings before the dog is fed it has to do one training thing such as give eye contact while its food bowl is on the ground which takes about 5 seconds, or its food is in the crate and it just goes in their and eats it, or I might throw a tennis ball and as soon as the dog brings it back it gets its breakfast. Or I might go and let the chooks out then I call the dogs away from the chooks and too the car. So it is all different types of training that can last from about 5 seconds to about 5 minutes max. -
Heeling Taught Using Clicker & Toy - No Food

At Croydon we were playing with our dogs. Tia loves the tug. So I stop movement and hold the toy high up against my legs, Tia just sits and stares at me and her eyes start to close like she is going to sleep but still has grip on the tug even though it is not moving. The instructors had a laugh. -

How was the lady that fell over the sheep. Yesterday at the seminar they told us not to keep looking at our dogs or else we would be what is called a "Dog Pervert". Was interesting today, at one stage Tia split the sheep and I could see her watching 3 sheep and then quickly looking at the other sheep as well. The little blue merle Aussie pup did really well and Kinta showed real talent.
